GSC Films: S-Z
GSC Films: S-Z Saboteur 1942 Alfred Hitchcock 3.0 Robert Cummings, Patricia Lane as not so charismatic love interest, Otto Kruger as rather dull villain (although something of prefigure of James Mason’s very suave villain in ‘NNW’), Norman Lloyd who makes impression as rather melancholy saboteur, especially when he is hanging by his sleeve in Statue of Liberty sequence. One of lesser Hitchcock products, done on loan out from Selznick for Universal. Suffers from lackluster cast (Cummings does not have acting weight to make us care for his character or to make us believe that he is going to all that trouble to find the real saboteur), and an often inconsistent story line that provides opportunity for interesting set pieces – the circus freaks, the high society fund-raising dance; and of course the final famous Statue of Liberty sequence (vertigo impression with the two characters perched high on the finger of the statue, the suspense generated by the slow tearing of the sleeve seam, and the scary fall when the sleeve tears off – Lloyd rotating slowly and screaming as he recedes from Cummings’ view). Many scenes are obviously done on the cheap – anything with the trucks, the home of Kruger, riding a taxi through New York. Some of the scenes are very flat – the kindly blind hermit (riff on the hermit in ‘Frankenstein?’), Kruger’s affection for his grandchild around the swimming pool in his Highway 395 ranch home, the meeting with the bad guys in the Soda City scene next to Hoover Dam. The encounter with the circus freaks (Siamese twins who don’t get along, the bearded lady whose beard is in curlers, the militaristic midget who wants to turn the couple in, etc.) is amusing and piquant (perhaps the scene was written by Dorothy Parker?), but it doesn’t seem to relate to anything. -

AWR2019 Media
Media Kit 2019 WHAT IS THE AWR ASIA’S MOST TRUSTED WINE GUIDE Judged blind by a selection of top industry panellists, the Asian Wine Review is both a guide to the region's offerings and a benchmarking arena for Asian wineries to advance their quality of wines. It is a platform where exceptional winemaking from Asian wine regions are celebrated and acknowledged. 2018 marks the third consecutive year of the publication and witnessed continuous support from both wineries and wine associations. With the core values of the review stronger than ever, it has been recognised by Wine-Searcher and they have become a premium sponsor and partner of the Asian Wine Review 2018. Wine submissions are now open for AWR 2019. We aim to continue the success of the review and welcome past and new wineries to participate. AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN 2019 The time has arrived for Asian wines to be taken seriously. Having tasted impeccable examples while judging over the past five years, I am compelled to provide a platform for international recognition of Asian wines. I am convinced that Asian made wine firmly deserves its place at the dinner table. But what about the rest of our industry and our consumers? Turning a blind eye to Asian production would be a mistake. Although traditionalists may scoff, Asian wine is coming to a store near you, so being noticed and recognized is vital. The wealth of talent combining formally trained local winemakers, alongside international winemakers in the region, are at the forefront of this change. The ongoing success story of the publication was marked this year with the participation of Wine-Searcher as a premium sponsor. -

Hong Kong to Host Stonier International Pinot Noir Tasting This November
Hong Kong to host Stonier International Pinot Noir Tasting this November The Stonier International Pinot Noir Tasting (SIPNOT) will debut in Hong Kong this November, giving the local wine trade a rare opportunity to participate in one of the world’s leading benchmarking events for Pinot Noir. Led by renowned wine critic Jeannie Cho Lee MW and joined by The Flying Winemaker, Eddie McDougall and Stonier winemaker Mike Symons, the tasting has a history in Australia of driving interest and discussion around Pinot Noir wines from all regions of the world. “Traditionally, the Pinot Noir story in Hong Kong has centred on Burgundy and this tasting aims to expand the knowledge and exposure to outstanding Pinot Noir producers from other fine wine regions of the world, many of which have developed a highly regarded history with this fussy variety” says Symons. “SIPNOT has helped benchmark Pinot Noir from regions all around the world, boosting our knowledge and appreciation of prime Pinot regions beyond France.” For 15 years Stonier has presented the SIPNOT event to pinot lovers in its home town of Melbourne, as well as in Sydney and London. Jeannie Cho Lee joins an esteemed list of SIPNOT panel alumni, including the likes of Tim Atkin MW, Matthew Jukes, James Halliday AO, Andrew Caillard MW and the late Len Evans AO OBE. At SIPNOT Hong Kong, guests will enjoy 12 world class Pinots from Old and New World producers, which have proven to excel in making exceptional Pinot Noir. Attendees will receive a tasting booklet, which will list the event wines, however the order of wines in each bracket won’t be revealed until the very end. -
