This funding, provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport is allocated to Head teachers of schools with primary aged pupils. The funding is ring-fenced, which means it can only be spent on the provision of PE and sport in schools. The Seaton Valley first and middle schools have pooled their money to achieve maximum impact and to ensure pupils across Seaton Valley have similar opportunities. In February 2014, the Prime Minister committed to continue the funding for the Sports Premium until 2020. He also clarified the purpose of the funding: To improve the quality of existing PE teaching, so that all primary pupils improve their health, skills and physical literacy and have a broader exposure to a range of sports. Increase the quality of initial teacher training in PE and sport. Schools to understand the value and benefits of high quality PE and sport, including its use as a tool for whole school improvement. This the second year of the Sports Premium funding and in Seaton Valley we are focusing our work in 3 areas: Physical Education, Healthy, Active Lifestyles and Competitive School Sport. SchOOL Games Mark 5 Seaton Valley schools achieved School Games Mark for 2013- 14. The award was launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to school sport and the development of competition across their school.

The Angel's Way Route Seaton Sluice to Chester-Le-Street
Northern Saints Trails The Angel’s Way Seaton Sluice to Chester-le-Street 49 kms, 30.5 miles Introduction The Angel’s Way is an important link in the network of the Northern Saints Trails. This route between Seaton Sluice and Chester-le-Street means that there is a continuous 114 mile route between Lindisfarne and Durham, using St Oswald’s Way as far as Warkworth, The Way of the Sea from Warkworth to Seaton Sluice and after The Angel’s Way, Cuddy’s Corse (which is also part of The Way of Learning) from Chester-le-Street to Durham. All the Northern Saints Trails use the waymark shown here. In two parts, from near Holywell to Camperdown and from Bowes Railway Path to West Urpeth, the route follows The Tyne & Wear Heritage Way which is well signed and the waymark is also shown here. The route is divided into 4 sections, 3 of which are between 13 to 14 kilometres or 8 to 8.5 miles in length and section 3 from Millennium Bridge to The Angel of the North is just 8 kilometres or 5 miles. The route is of course named after the iconic Angel of the North designed by Antony Gormley. Since it was erected in 1998, it has quickly become Britain’s best known sculpture. When he designed the sculpture Gormley deliberately angled the wings 3.5 degrees forward to create what he described as “a sense of embrace”. This ties in with the protective concept of the guardian angel and if you want to engage with that theme as you journey on The Angel’s Way, perhaps this prayer will be appropriate: Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day, be at my side, to light and guard rule and guide.

February 2021 Executive Headteacher’s welcome Thank you for your interest in this opportunity to join Astley Community High School and Whytrig Middle School as ASD ARP Lead Teacher and SENCo for Astley Community High School. This post offers an excellent opportunity in our schools for an experienced SEND Teacher looking to move into a leadership role. Astley Community High School and Whytrig Middle School, which are co-located on Elsdon Avenue in Seaton Delaval, form the Seaton Valley Federation of Schools together with Seaton Sluice Middle School. The three schools share a single governing body. We are about to embark on an exciting new chapter. Northumberland County Council has recently announced plans for a multi-million pound investment to create a brand new building on our Elsdon Avenue site. Part of this will be a purpose built ARP (Additionally Resourced Provision) for 20 pupils with a focus on ASD. The ARP will be in place from January 2021 and we are looking for someone to be part of our journey as we move forward in our continual development. I am immensely proud to be Executive Headteacher of all three schools. We strive for excellence in the education we provide for our students and are a focal point for the local community. Astley Community High School is rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted. I strongly believe that the relatively small size of all three schools provides a great environment in which to know our young people well, so that we are able to understand and respond to each individual’s needs and enable them to succeed.

Seaton Valley Neighbourhood Plan Referendum Version May 2021 Seaton Valley Neighbourhood Plan: Referendum Version (May 2021) Foreword On behalf of Seaton Valley Community Council, welcome to the referendum version neighbourhood plan for our area. When we commenced work on the plan in 2015 our focus was on the protection of our Green Belt, affordable housing, economy, transport, infrastructure and our environment. The initial work on the plan focused on the concerns of the community in New Hartley around the proposed housing development in the village. Following the granting of planning permission for the development in New Hartley at appeal in September 2017, our work lost some of its momentum. In July 2017 Northumberland County Council took the decision to end work on the Northumberland Core Strategy and to prepare a local plan for the county. The Northumberland Local Plan is currently at examination. In early 2020, the council decided to recommence the work on the plan and that the focus of the plan should be the protection of the important open spaces in our villages. The council believes that the Northumberland Local Plan addresses many of the issues in the area around the protection of the Green Belt, future housing and employment sites, transport issues and the protection of the environment and communities. However, we wanted to ensure that the open and green spaces in our villages are also protected. We commenced consultation in February 2020 and invited residents for their views on which open spaces we should protect through the plan and why. We received a positive response and from that we created a background paper to explain the process that has led to the proposed local green spaces and protected open spaces that we have included.

The Way of the Sea
1 The Way of the Sea Jarrow to Warkworth Introduction The Way of the Sea has been set up as one of the new Northern Saints Trails to provide a link between Warkworth on St Oswald's Way and another new Northern Saints Trail, The Way of Learning. Linking these three routes together provides a continuous 124 mile pilgrimage route between Lindisfarne and Durham. This route can of course be walked in either direction. When we think of the Northern Saints like Aidan and Cuthbert, we rightly think of them as great walkers and it’s likely that they will sometimes have walked along this coast, but actually it’s probably more likely that they will have taken the actual way of the sea! Aidan was closely linked with monastic settlements in South Shields and Hartlepool, so he probably sailed from Lindisfarne to those places which would have been quicker and, before the Vikings started their raids, safer too. The Way of the Sea itself is 62 kilometres or 38.5 miles in length. You may occasionally ﬁnd Northern Saints Trails signs, but this route is the same as the England Coast Path all the way from North Shields to Warkworth so follow the ECP signs which are frequent. Sometimes you may see an acorn symbol as the ECP is one of the National Trails. You will also ﬁnd Northumberland Coast Path signs between Cresswell and Warkworth. The coastal path itself generally stays on the higher ground, but in some places such as Druridge or Whitley bays you may prefer to walk on the sand.

Northumberland Archives Accessions July – Dec. 2014 Each year we receive several hundred new accessions (deposits of records or artefacts). These can range in size from a single item, for example, a photograph, through to several hundred boxes of records. As we accept records into our custody we create an accession record. The information that we record includes a brief description of the item, covering dates, details of the provenance of the item and the status of the deposit, in other words, whether it is a purchase, deposit (long term loan) or a gift. The vast majority of records are deposited with us and remain the property of the depositor and their heirs. We regularly produce a list of the accessions received over a six month period. This is generated from our electronic collections management system and provides brief details of the deposit. If you would like further information about the deposit you should consult our electronic catalogue or speak with a member of staff who will be pleased to advise. The purpose of the list is to allow users to become more aware of new deposits of material. Not all of the items that are referred to on the list will be available for public consultation. Some may be subject to a closure period because of confidential content. Others may not yet be catalogued and therefore cannot be produced. During March to May 2015, Your Back Yard consulted local people through a survey of residents and public meetings in each village, plus discussions with organisations working in the area, engagement with the local schools, and detailed conversations with Seaton Valley Council. Village plans have been drawn up based on the views expressed in this consultation: this is the village plan for Seaton Sluice, which reﬂects feedback from local people and organisations that work in the village. It is not a legal document, but sets out some practical steps that can be taken to improve the village. People from the Seaton Sluice community can lead on some of them, while others will need to be led by Seaton Valley Council, working with local people. It is intended that the Plan can be used by local people and organisations to help in their planning and seeking support or funding for their activities.
