LOCAL ELECTION RESULTS Welcome to the spring edition of the Futures magazine.

This issue of the magazine has been slightly delayed due to the Local Elections held on the 4 May and the General Election held on 8 June. With respect to the former, a majority of the existing Councillors were re-elected to their Wards, however we have welcomed two new Councillors, Cllr Eva Coulson and Cllr Daniel Nesbitt onto the Council for the first time.

I was elected as Chair of the Council at the Annual Parish Council meeting on the 17 May, and I have proudly accepted this appointment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank last year’s Chair, former Cllr Darren Mullen for his sterling efforts during 2016/17, a very successful year for the Council, as highlighted in our Annual Report, summarised later in the magazine. STUDENT SUPPORT AT

Looking through the contents of this issue of ‘Futures’ PONDS it is wonderful to see how students, of all ages, have contributed to the tidying of public spaces and in making Seaton Valley a nicer area to live and visit. SCHOOL PLANTING AT PIT

Local residents and bus travellers might have noticed the installation of art work in various bus stops and shelters in Seaton Valley.

Art Stop is an intergenerational project involving the installation of art work into 7 bus stops and shelters. The art work has been created by local young people who have worked with a Creative Producer and a Youth Worker from Northumberland County Council. The art work is their interpretation of what Seaton Valley means to them. The work contains images from the Hester Pit disaster, The Witch of Seaton Delaval, Seghill mining history, historical Pupils from New Hartley First School have been members of the Delaval family, wildlife and images helping the New Hartley In Bloom group to care for from the coast. the flower beds and bushes in the Hester Pit Memorial Garden in the village.

NEW PLAY PARKS OPENING SOON

Planning permission has been granted to install a new Play Park on the green space adjacent to the main road, east of the railway crossing and south of Kentmere Close and Hill Avenue, Seghill. The park is being funded jointly by the Council and Northumberland County Council via a contribution from its S106 Housing Developer Fund.

We expect the works to commence during the last week in June and for the facility to open in time for the school holidays – please keep a look out for further information announcing the official opening date

The Council has also identified funding to install a small Play Park at Seghill Welfare and would like to hear residents’ views on its proposals. Location plans and details of the play equipment are on display at the Council’s Offices in Seaton Delaval and at Seghill Community Centre. The consultation period ends on Friday 30 June. PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION RESULTS

We had a great response to our 2017 photography competition. We received over 100 photographs submitted across the 5 categories of landscape, wildlife, village life, under 18s and under 10s.

The quality of the images submitted was very good, making the judging of the winning photographs quite difficult. After considerable discussions the judges finally selected the winning images for each category.

The winners attended an Awards Ceremony on the 27 April at the Council Offices and were given their prizes by Councillor Les Bowman. The winning photographers and their images are shown below, whilst all of the images submitted for the competition can be viewed on our website:

Under 10s Winner - Rhys Friend

Under 18s Winner - Jack Inchmore Landscape Winner - Graeme Hogg

Wildlife Winner - Tony Quinn

Village Life Winner - Jessica Goven

If somebody's life is in danger or a crime is taking place, call 999.

If you need a non-emergency police response, call 101.

If you are the victim of crime or have witnessed any non-emergency incident occurring within the area, you can call 101 or alternatively use an online reporting form which can be found at www.northumbria.police.uk/contact_us

There is also a section where you can click on icon links to view more information about a specific issue and find out if Northumbria Police is the appropriate service to contact. In many cases, there are more appropriate options.

101 is the number to call Northumbria Police for any non-emergency issues such as minor traffic collisions, criminal damage or about an issue affecting your community.

It’s an easy to remember non-emergency police number and is in use across England, Scotland and Wales. The number is designed to make it easier for you to contact police wherever you are in the country.

When calling 101, the system determines your location and plays a recorded message announcing the police force you will be connected to. If you are on a boundary between two or more forces, the recorded message will give you a choice of which force to be connected to.

Calls to 101 cost 15p per call, no matter what time of day it is, or how long the call lasts. This means everyone calling the police will know exactly how much a call costs, whether they’re calling from a landline or a mobile phone.

You should continue to call 999 in an emergency - when a crime is in progress, if there is danger to life or violence is being used or threatened.

Remember 101 is the number to call your local police - when it's less urgent than 999 VALLEY MOVES - LEISURE PROGRAMME
