Housing, Regeneration and Planning Portfolio Plan APPENDIX 1 HOUSING, REGENERATION AND PLANNING PORTFOLIO PLAN Version: September 2019 Cllr Morgan, Portfolio Holder Renewal, Recreation and Housing Sara Bowrey, Director of Housing, Regeneration and Planning The Housing, Regeneration and Planning department’s work is delivered by four divisions: Housing Planning Culture and Regeneration Strategic Property These divisions manage both community services, such as the libraries contract, and projects, such as housing schemes. The priorities of the department are to: 1. Support the economic development of town centres. 2. Protect, conserve and regenerate the borough’s built and natural environment. 3. Support wellbeing, particularly through culture and leisure. 4. Ensure residents have access to affordable, decent and secure homes. These priorities align with Bromley Council’s ‘Building a Better Bromley’ guiding principles. This is a living rolling document, rather than being tied to a financial year, which allows new services and projects to be added as and when they are agreed by Members. This approach means that it will be consistently up to date for regular scrutiny by the Renewal, Recreation and Housing Policy Development and Scrutiny Committee. It had been found by John Erwood some ten months prior to this, during the construction of a rear extension to his house at 12 Leechcroft Road, Walllngton (TQ 2835 6513). The axe was located while digging a small soakaway 1.2m square connected with the building work. It had been placed edgeways In the ground with Its blade orientated to the east at a depth of 500mm from the surface; It lay some 200mm Into 'disturbed clay' beneath 400mm of topsoll. The geology hereabouts comprises the sands and clays of the Woolwich and Reading beds and small patches of sandy yellow-brown clay still adhere to several of the flake facets. The finder also noticed some animal bones at the same time as the discovery of the axe, though not apparently In direct association. It Is possible that these were of recent date. The axe was located In one corner of the soakaway and the act of prising It out of the section with a metal pickaxe slightly damaged the edge lying uppermost. (The position of the modern damage Is marked by an asterisk on the drawing.) Given Its recorded depth It Is conceivable that It was originally deposited In a shallow pit, though none was detected by the finder.

I trust you and your families have had a great festive break and are looking forward to 2015 as much as we all are. Above and beyond all, the Orpington History Organisation or ‘OHO’ as we are being referred to more and more has had a very positive year. We are in a strange but not unwelcomed situation where if we want to take things to the next level in our activities we need more help and assistance. We have had people come forward this year, which is great, but need more. We need volunteers to come forward to get involved in the following: Document and Image Scanning; Guidance on approach and control methods regarding cataloguing historic items; Assistance with drafting and editing sections or the entire quarterly newsletter; Monitoring and responding to emails (enquiries and requests) that come to the OHO; Event coordination. The OHO is not run or governed by committee (it may well be sometime in the future) but for now is led by me and I am supported by a team of about 20 regular dedicated volunteers. We have never made a bad decision and have always agreed. Finance control is quite simple. Any donations made and any profits from my book ‘Around Orpington Through Time’ are added to a bank account that is used to pay for expenses and materials.

Shelving is full and archives are now stacking up on the floor due to a lack of storage space.
