THE PACIFIC-ASIAN LOG Fifth Edition – August 2003 – by Country Introduction Acknowledgements This is the fifth edition of the Pacific Asian Log. First issued in August DX publications, DX Clubs, E-bulletins, e-mail reflectors, and web sites 2001, The PAL lists all known medium wave broadcasting stations in are my main sources of information. They include Arctic DX Club, southern and eastern Asia and the Pacific. It covers an area extending Australian Radio DX Club (ARDXC), Hard Core DXing (HCDX), as far west as Afghanistan and as far east as Alaska, or roughly one half Indonesian DX Club (IDXC), International Radio Club of America (IRCA), of the earth's surface! It now lists over 3500 stations in 59 countries, Medium Wave Circle (MWC), Nagoya DXers' Circle, New Zealand DX with frequencies, call signs, locations, power, networks, schedules, Radio League (NZDXRL). DXing China (1000 Lakes DX Page), Dxlinks languages, formats, networks and other information. See the comments column for information on off channel operations. To Location: Locations are as given in government lists, station/network the right of the frequency, I’ve noted stations which vary in frequency web sites, or on-air announcement and may differ slightly from other lists. with a v, those which are currently inactive with a *, and future stations A letter or number after the location indicates local program designation (not yet on the air) with an f. (for example, AIR stations in large cities) Call: The station's government-assigned call letters Region: The state, province, prefecture, oblast, county, borough, autonomous region, territory, island, etc. where the station is located. Network/ Slogan: This is generally the Network or Station name as Power: Power is in kw, d indicates directional antenna (see comments announced on the air (or the English translation of it). Numbers or letters for more details where available). Other language names AIR: All India Radio are written in full. No language info usually means the station broadcasts BCC: Broadcasting Corp of China (Taiwan) in the country/region's dominant language(s), such as English in Australia, Bctg, Bcing: Broadcasting (BC=Broadcast) Tagalog in the Philippines, etc). BS: Broadcasting Station Schedule: All times are in UTC, except where noted (LT=local time). CBS: Christian Broadcasting System (Korea) Some schedules may shift by one hour during local summer. 24h means CBS: Central Broadcasting System (Taiwan) 24 hours. Notations such as xxh/day mean the station is on the air xx CNR: China National Radio hours per day, exact schedule is unknown. Days of the week are CRI: China Radio International intended to be UTC, and may not be the same as local dates, i.e. 0100 EBS: Economic Broadcastiong Station (China) local time on Monday in Japan is actually 1600 Sunday UTC. Some days KBS: Korean Broadcasting System might be incorrectly shown as local rather than UTC. KCBS: Korean Central Broadcsting Station (N Korea) SW: Shortwave parallel, // means SW or medium wave parallel LNR : Lao National Radio News Networks/relays: BBC-British Broadcasting Corp., AP-Associated MBC: Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (South Korea) Press (US), NPR-National Public Radio (US), CNN/CBS - US news NBC: National Broadcsting Corp? (Papua New Guinea) networks, R.Aust-Radio Australia, ABC-Australian BCing Commission or Net: Network American BCing Company, RNZ-R New Zealand, DW-Deutsche Welle NHK: Nippon Hoso Kyokai (Japan) DA-Directional antenna (I.e. DA-S means beamed to the south), also PBS: People's Broadcasting Station (China) noted as xxxdeg for some stations RGD: Renmin Guangbo Dientai (China) r indicates a relay of another station. This is generally an unmanned RM: Radio Malaysia, RTM: Radio TV Malaysia repeater, such as most of the low powered NHK stations. In some RRI: Radio Republik Indonesia cases, it refers to a station that relays another during part of its Rst.: Radiostantiya (Russia) broadcast day. RTHK: Radio TV Hong Kong Printed 8/30/03 Pacific-Asian Log Page iii National Network Notes SCN has an all night show, "New Day Australia", carried on 27 stations from midnight to 5 am local time. The show has local breaks at :04:30, :12, ::20, :40, and :50 past the hour. Widely heard affiliates include 2UE- AUSTRALIA: 954, 4BC-1116, 3GV-1242, 2CC-1206, and 4BU-1332. ABC Newsradio: a nationwide news network with outlets only in the SCN also operates the "Easy Listening Australia" network, featuring soft major cities. Most locally produced rolling news, weather, sports, etc., oldies, with affiliates on 531, 621, 639, 846, 1026, 1071, and 1089. The but also carries BBC, NPR, Deutsche Welle, and Radio Nederland web site is http://www.easylistening.com.au/.
