Biography or History: Graham Snow was born in Carmanville in 1928. He was educated in his home town where he graduated with honours and then went on to complete his teachers training at Memorial University College. For a number of years he alternated teaching and furthering his education, obtaining his B.A.Ed. from Memorial in 1955, his MS (P.E.) from Springfield, Massachusetts in 1960 as well as attending summer programs at Dalhousie and Memorial. He taught at Ship Cove, and Curtis Academy, St. John's where he was instrumental in developing high school sport and re-organizing the St. John's School Sports Association.

He became the Physical Education Instructor of United Collegiate, now Prince of Wales Collegiate, from 1960-63. During his tenure there he compiled his report on the Physical Fitness and Sports Activities in the Schools in Newfoundland, 1962-63, which strongly influenced the Provincial Government's sports and recreation development programmes, and resulted in his appointment as sports consultant.

In 1964, Snow became the first provincial employee directly responsible for sport and recreation in the province. As director of Physical Fitness in the Department of Provincial Affairs he initiated the development of sports programmes and fitness awareness. He was the first Newfoundlander associated with the Games concept and represented the province at meetings and seminars both nationally and internationally.

He became the Director of the newly established Provincial Sports Archive in 1979 and remained in this position until his retirement in 1984. He was also part time visiting lecturer of undergraduate and graduate courses at the School of Physical Education and Athletics at Memorial University.

During his lifetime Graham Snow was honored with awards from many of the sports organizations with which he had been associated, including the Baseball and Basketball Halls of Fame.

He died on March 8th 1986.
