Paul Mccartney 7-Inch Discography“ Project - General The „Paul McCartney 7-inch Discography“ Project - General A little information concerning volumes 1 and 2 (1971 and 1972): - Both volumes together will comprise approximately 260 A4 pages. They will be printed in full colour, on heavy quality, high grade paper (130g/m2) - They will be written in English and German throughout. - They will contain extensive information on more than 520 distinct pressings and variants from 54 countries, with 2,100 pictures and illustrations. - The information includes catalogue and matrix numbers, sleeve openings and rarity ratings. In addition, interesting collector comments are given for each and every release and issue. - Release dates and chart placings are also given, when available. - The books also contain general background information on Paul McCartney's singles, in addition to country-specific information. Volume 1 (1971) - Start of the preordering period: June 28, 2009 - Special price during the advanced preordering period: 29,90 Euro (valid from June 28 until August 2, 2009) - Regular price after the advanced preordering period: 35,90 Euro (valid from August 3 until September 13, 2009) - Preordering period ends: September 13, 2009 - Shipment of the books: October 4, 2009 Volume 2 (1972) - Planned for the beginning of 2010 The idea The main idea behind this fan-based project was to compile an exhaustive discography of 7" releases by Paul McCartney. With the help of many collectors and Paul McCartney enthusiasts from around the world, I have managed to create a unique catalogue of all of McCartney's single releases to date. After several years of research, I am very proud to announce the impending publication of the first volume of the catalogue. Volume 1, which will comprise all of the single releases from the year 1971, will be published soon. Volume 2, containing the releases from 1972, is scheduled to follow approximately 3 months later. The plan is for subsequent volumes to appear at intervals of approximately 3-6 months. Work has already commenced on the first chapter for 1973 (My Love) and is progressing nicely. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, we still need your help! There are still some gaps that need filling and I am quite sure that there must be many more pressings and issue variations waiting to be discovered. If you are also a collector and you would like to participate, please contact me. Any help would be very much appreciated, no matter how small! This is a non-profit project, but it should cover its costs. Unfortunately, printing costs are very high, particularly for relatively small print runs. But I do not wish to cut corners regarding the quality of the paper and print. If demand shows that it is worthwhile printing 100 copies more than originally planned, the price will drop considerably. I will keep you informed on the matter. If the decision is taken to lower the sale price later on, you can be sure that you will be refunded any excess money that you have already paid. Features Volume 1 (1971): Volume 1 (1971) includes all known worldwide issues of the following singles: 1. Another Day / Oh Woman, Oh Why 2. Eat At Home / Smile Away 3. Heart Of The Country (Russian EP) 4. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey / Too Many People 5. The Back Seat Of My Car It has approximately 160 A4-format pages, with more than 1250 coloured pictures. It also contains general background information on all the singles plus country-specific information for all releases and issues. Features Volume 2 (1972): Volume 2 (1972) includes all known worldwide issues of the following singles: 1. Give Ireland Back To The Irish / Version 2. Mary Had A Little Lamb / Little Woman Love 3. Hi Hi Hi /C Moon 4. Singles released from the Wings Wild Life album. It has approximately 104 A4-format pages, with more than 920 coloured pictures. Printing & Paper Quality I consider it very important for the print quality to be high, because the main section of the book comprises photographs of the sleeves and labels. For this reason, I have selected the digital offset method of printing, which is able to reproduce images very sharply and the colours retain a very high intensity. In the event that the print run amounts to over 400 copies, we will switch to standard offset printing. The book will be printed on 130g/m² paper, which is a very good, heavyweight quality. In comparison, normal xerox-copy paper has a weight of only 80g/m². Binding Discussions as to the best way of publishing the discography went on for a long time. In the end, it was decided that the best and most convenient method would be to produce a loose-leaf publication housed in a ring binder. The benefit of this is that each subsequent chapter can be easily added. Also, each user can add his own amendments and corrections. We would like to produce an attractive, custom ring binder for this project. Again, the main problem is the cost of producing it. Once more, we will require a minimum number of interested collectors before taking on the project. The plan would then be to supply the ring binder to coincide with the publication of the third volume, for the year 1973. Collectors will therefore need to obtain a regular ring binder for themselves to keep the discography in until such time as the official ring binder is ready. Of course, it would be far better to have the custom binders ready for the start of the project, but unfortunately this is not possible. Future Plans It is my hope, that with the help of the many contributing collectors, we will be able to publish subsequent volumes of the discography at intervals of approximately 3 - 6 months. Work on the first chapter for 1973, which examines the My Love single, has already started. Another big issue is the price of each volume. I hope that we will be able to print more copies in the future, which will bring the sale price down from its present level. The „Paul McCartney 7-inch Discography“ Project - Preorder General Preordering Information To keep the price down to an acceptable level, it will be necessary to order a print run of approximately 250 copies for each volume. The final preorder price stated on this webpage is based on this minimum amount. If we are able to implement a bigger print run, we will of course be able to announce a lower price. On the basis of the last quote we received from our printing company, we originally thought that 100 copies would be sufficient. However, as it turns out, with such a small print run, the final price for the 1971 volume would be around 10 euros higher. The preordering period is due to begin on June 28th and will go on for approximately 11 weeks. Volume 1 will be available at a special preorder price for the first five weeks, after which the regular preorder price will apply. Please appreciate that this relatively long preorder period is necessary because of the nature of the project. Right now, there is no other way we can do it. You are able to download a PDF-file with lots of preview pages, showing a selection of the content of all five chapters of the first volume. If you like it, please promote it to other collectors and fan-clubs. Thanks! Benefits of Preordering 1. You will benefit from the special preorder price, which will be much lower than the final price. 2. We will only be producing a very limited quantity of the book. Once these are sold out, no more copies will be available. 3. You will get online access to a working version of the next chapter. 4. You will be able to buy subsequent volumes of the discography at a special price. 5. You can have your copy signed by the author, if you wish. There are sure to be a number of additions and corrections to the discography as the project progresses. If you preorder the book, you will be able to download all forthcoming additions as a PDF file for free, and print them out yourself! TD Jazz Concerts John Pizzarelli and Freddy Cole: Celebrating the centenary of Nat King Cole @ 100 Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 8:00pm Pre-concert Talk at 7:00pm This is the 913th concert in Koerner Hall John Pizzarelli, vocals & guitar Mike Karn, bass Konrad Paszkudzki, piano Freddy Cole, piano & vocals Elias Bailey, bass Randy Napoleon, guitar Quentin Baxtor, drums John Pizzarelli World-renowned guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli, established as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of the Great American Songbook, has expanded that repertoire by including the music of Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Antônio Carlos Jobim, and The Beatles. Having concentrated on the music of Paul McCartney, Johnny Mercer, and Frank Sinatra over the last two years, Pizzarelli has returned to the bossa nova of Jobim with his 2017 release Sinatra & Jobim @ 50. With co- vocalist Daniel Jobim, grandson of the legendary Brazilian composer, the two explore songs Sinatra and Jobim recorded, as well as add new songs flavoured with the spirit of the classic Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim album. Pizzarelli has toured North America, South America, Asia, and Europe, performing shows centered on Frank Sinatra’s centennial, the songs of Johnny Mercer, and a McCartney program, in which his quartet is joined by strings and a horn section. He also tours on a double bill with pianist Ramsey Lewis. While plenty of jazz greats influenced his work, Nat King Cole has been Pizzarelli’s hero and foundation over the last 25 years. He devoted two albums to his music, Dear Mr.

  • Mill Valley Oral History Program a Collaboration Between the Mill Valley Historical Society and the Mill Valley Public Library
Mill Valley Oral History Program A collaboration between the Mill Valley Historical Society and the Mill Valley Public Library David Getz An Oral History Interview Conducted by Debra Schwartz in 2020 © 2020 by the Mill Valley Public Library TITLE: Oral History of David Getz INTERVIEWER: Debra Schwartz DESCRIPTION: Transcript, 60 pages INTERVIEW DATE: January 9, 2020 In this oral history, musician and artist David Getz discusses his life and musical career. Born in New York City in 1940, David grew up in a Jewish family in Brooklyn. David recounts how an interest in Native American cultures originally brought him to the drums and tells the story of how he acquired his first drum kit at the age of 15. David explains that as an adolescent he aspired to be an artist and consequently attended Cooper Union after graduating from high school. David recounts his decision to leave New York in 1960 and drive out to California, where he immediately enrolled at the San Francisco Art Institute and soon after started playing music with fellow artists. David explains how he became the drummer for Big Brother and the Holding Company in 1966 and reminisces about the legendary Monterey Pop Festival they performed at the following year. He shares numerous stories about Janis Joplin and speaks movingly about his grief upon hearing the news of her death. David discusses the various bands he played in after the dissolution of Big Brother and the Holding Company, as well as the many places he performed over the years in Marin County. He concludes his oral history with a discussion of his family: his daughters Alarza and Liz, both of whom are singer- songwriters, and his wife Joan Payne, an actress and singer.

  • Barbara Mettler: Germany, Life Before and In, 1933
Barbara Mettler: Germany, Life Before And In, 1933. Interview, date and interviewer unknown. BM: I was united to Allan in life and work and in New York when we started he helped me very very much with my work. And then of course up in New Hampshire when we moved the school up there. And I was determined to be a good partner. I was determined to be a good wife. I just felt that I had everything to learn in that direction and that I wanted to do what was right. This perhaps accounts for some of my feeling that I stick with him and don’t care what his past was. Now the fears that he experienced of course, or the enemies that he had of course, were mine too, and I wanted to share the difficulties. It was not in my nature to conceal the truth. It was not in my nature to deceive. As our life together went on I was drawn into a web of total deception as to the nature of his life, and work, and situation and past and present and future, which was very, very difficult for me for two reasons. Or perhaps it’s all the same reason. I was a child of America, naïve as Americans can be – as Americans could be at that time and can still be – A midwesterner, right at the heart of the country with unsophisticated lifestyles and simplicity where everybody knew everybody and everybody knew what everybody else did. And we never concealed anything, I know there were terrible prejudices, I know there were anti-Catholic prejudices and there were anti-Semitic prejudices although we didn’t have any Jews in our community so it didn’t have a chance to express itself.

  • MTO 11.4: Spicer, Review of the Beatles As Musicians
Volume 11, Number 4, October 2005 Copyright © 2005 Society for Music Theory Mark Spicer Received October 2005 [1] As I thought about how best to begin this review, an article by David Fricke in the latest issue of Rolling Stone caught my attention.(1) Entitled “Beatles Maniacs,” the article tells the tale of the Fab Faux, a New York-based Beatles tribute group— founded in 1998 by Will Lee (longtime bassist for Paul Schaffer’s CBS Orchestra on the Late Show With David Letterman)—that has quickly risen to become “the most-accomplished band in the Beatles-cover business.” By painstakingly learning their respective parts note-by-note from the original studio recordings, the Fab Faux to date have mastered and performed live “160 of the 211 songs in the official canon.”(2) Lee likens his group’s approach to performing the Beatles to “the way classical musicians start a chamber orchestra to play Mozart . as perfectly as we can.” As the Faux’s drummer Rich Pagano puts it, “[t]his is the greatest music ever written, and we’re such freaks for it.” [2] It’s been over thirty-five years since the real Fab Four called it quits, and the group is now down to two surviving members, yet somehow the Beatles remain as popular as ever. Hardly a month goes by, it seems, without something new and Beatle-related appearing in the mass media to remind us of just how important this group has been, and continues to be, in shaping our postmodern world. For example, as I write this, the current issue of TV Guide (August 14–20, 2005) is a “special tribute” issue commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Beatles’ sold-out performance at New York’s Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965—a concert which, as the magazine notes, marked the “dawning of a new era for rock music” where “[v]ast outdoor shows would become the superstar standard.”(3) The cover of my copy—one of four covers for this week’s issue, each featuring a different Beatle—boasts a photograph of Paul McCartney onstage at the Shea concert, his famous Höfner “violin” bass gripped in one hand as he waves to the crowd with the other.
