  • 1 Ted Kirnbauer 1 Corinthians 11:17–34 10/13/19 11:17 but in Giving
1 Ted Kirnbauer 1 Corinthians 11:17–34 10/13/19 11:17 But in giving this instruction, I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse. In verse 17 Paul starts a new topic. The Corinthians were not only distorting the role of women in the church (11:1–16), they were abusing the celebration of communion. The reason that Paul cannot praise them is because their gathering results in something worse than if they hadn’t celebrated at all. 11:18 For, in the first place, when you come together as a church, I hear that divisions exist among you; and in part, I believe it. Verse 18 clarifies why their coming together is more harmful than good (11:17); the church was divided (11:18). Paul already alluded to divisions based on personalities in 1:11 and 3:4. But in Chapter 11 it seems that there were also divisions based on a class distinction between the rich and the poor that was manifested in the behavior of the people in their gatherings. Paul is loath to believe that all that he has heard is true, but he cannot completely discard it; he believes in part. 11:19 For there must also be factions among you, in order that those who are approved may have become evident among you. Verse 19 explains why Paul believes that divisions exist; he says they exist because they had to exist (“there must be factions among you”). The reason that factions were necessary was “in order that those who are approved may have become evident among you.” “Faction” in verse 19 is the word airesis (ai[resij).

  • 2017 Annual Report
NO KID HUNGRY 2017 SHARE OUR STRENGTH’S ANNUAL REPORT Dear Friends: As a multitude of concerns crowd our national stage, finding common ground can seem impossible. It can be easy to miss the voices of those who need our help the most. Yet our experience this year reminded us again that listening can be the dynamic act that sparks change. Timeless values continue to unite us all. Ensuring that all children have a life free of hunger is one of those values. This year we heard from teachers, principals, governors, and kids about how high the stakes are for all of us when our kids go hungry—and how important it is to make No Kid Hungry a reality. The repercussions of childhood hunger are profound and long-lasting, but access to food changes everything. Food not only feeds young minds and bodies, it tells children that we care about them and their futures. Mary Ann Gibson, a 4th grade teacher from Dallas, told us that since moving breakfast into the classroom, “I have seen a tremendous growth in children being alert, happy, not visiting the clinic as much, and ready to learn since our school has participated in the program. This breakfast ensures my students a good start to the day.” It takes a combination of strategies to end hunger for kids. Ours includes everything from training school leaders on new ways to serve school breakfast and helping community centers open new summer meals sites to convincing governors to make legislative changes. Change is happening. Today, 1/3 fewer children face hunger.

  • Apple Label Discography
Apple Label Discography 100-800 series (Capitol numbering series) Apple Records was formed by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in 1968. The Apple label was intended as a vehicle for the Beatles, their individual recordings and the talent they discovered. A great deal of what appeared on Apple was pretty self indulgent and experimental but they did discover a few good singers and groups. James Taylor recorded his first album on the label. Doris Troy recorded a good soul album and there are 2 albums by John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet. The Beatlesque group Badfinger also issued several albums on the label, the best of which was “Straight Up”. Apple Records fell apart in management chaos in 1974 and 1975 and a bitter split between the Beatles over the management of the company. Once the lawyers got involved everybody was suing everybody else over the collapse. The parody of the Beatles rise and the disintegration of Apple is captured hilariously in the satire “All You Need Is Cash: the story of the Rutles”. The Apple label on side 1 is black with a picture of a green apple on it, black printing. The label on side 2 is a picture of ½ an apple. From November 1968 until early 1970 at the bottom of the label was “MFD. BY CAPITOL RECORDS, INC. A SUBSIDIARY OF CAPITOL INDUSTRIES INC. USA”. From Early 1970 to late 1974, at the bottom of the label is “MFD. BY APPLE RECORDS” From late 1974 through 1975, there was a notation under the “MFD.
