The „Paul McCartney 7-inch Discography“ Project - General A little information concerning volumes 1 and 2 (1971 and 1972): - Both volumes together will comprise approximately 260 A4 pages. They will be printed in full colour, on heavy quality, high grade paper (130g/m2) - They will be written in English and German throughout. - They will contain extensive information on more than 520 distinct pressings and variants from 54 countries, with 2,100 pictures and illustrations. - The information includes catalogue and matrix numbers, sleeve openings and rarity ratings. In addition, interesting collector comments are given for each and every release and issue. - Release dates and chart placings are also given, when available. - The books also contain general background information on Paul McCartney's singles, in addition to country-specific information. Volume 1 (1971) - Start of the preordering period: June 28, 2009 - Special price during the advanced preordering period: 29,90 Euro (valid from June 28 until August 2, 2009) - Regular price after the advanced preordering period: 35,90 Euro (valid from August 3 until September 13, 2009) - Preordering period ends: September 13, 2009 - Shipment of the books: October 4, 2009 Volume 2 (1972) - Planned for the beginning of 2010 The idea The main idea behind this fan-based project was to compile an exhaustive discography of 7" releases by Paul McCartney. With the help of many collectors and Paul McCartney enthusiasts from around the world, I have managed to create a unique catalogue of all of McCartney's single releases to date. After several years of research, I am very proud to announce the impending publication of the first volume of the catalogue. Volume 1, which will comprise all of the single releases from the year 1971, will be published soon. Volume 2, containing the releases from 1972, is scheduled to follow approximately 3 months later. The plan is for subsequent volumes to appear at intervals of approximately 3-6 months. Work has already commenced on the first chapter for 1973 (My Love) and is progressing nicely. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, we still need your help! There are still some gaps that need filling and I am quite sure that there must be many more pressings and issue variations waiting to be discovered. If you are also a collector and you would like to participate, please contact me. Any help would be very much appreciated, no matter how small! This is a non-profit project, but it should cover its costs. Unfortunately, printing costs are very high, particularly for relatively small print runs. But I do not wish to cut corners regarding the quality of the paper and print. If demand shows that it is worthwhile printing 100 copies more than originally planned, the price will drop considerably. I will keep you informed on the matter. If the decision is taken to lower the sale price later on, you can be sure that you will be refunded any excess money that you have already paid. It also contains general background information on all the singles plus country-specific information for all releases and issues. Features Volume 2 (1972): Volume 2 (1972) includes all known worldwide issues of the following singles: 1. Give Ireland Back To The Irish / Version 2. Mary Had A Little Lamb / Little Woman Love 3. Hi Hi Hi /C Moon 4. Singles released from the Wings Wild Life album. It has approximately 104 A4-format pages, with more than 920 coloured pictures. Printing & Paper Quality I consider it very important for the print quality to be high, because the main section of the book comprises photographs of the sleeves and labels. For this reason, I have selected the digital offset method of printing, which is able to reproduce images very sharply and the colours retain a very high intensity. In the event that the print run amounts to over 400 copies, we will switch to standard offset printing. The book will be printed on 130g/m² paper, which is a very good, heavyweight quality. In comparison, normal xerox-copy paper has a weight of only 80g/m². Binding Discussions as to the best way of publishing the discography went on for a long time. In the end, it was decided that the best and most convenient method would be to produce a loose-leaf publication housed in a ring binder. The benefit of this is that each subsequent chapter can be easily added. Also, each user can add his own amendments and corrections. We would like to produce an attractive, custom ring binder for this project. Again, the main problem is the cost of producing it. Once more, we will require a minimum number of interested collectors before taking on the project. The plan would then be to supply the ring binder to coincide with the publication of the third volume, for the year 1973. Collectors will therefore need to obtain a regular ring binder for themselves to keep the discography in until such time as the official ring binder is ready. Of course, it would be far better to have the custom binders ready for the start of the project, but unfortunately this is not possible. Future Plans It is my hope, that with the help of the many contributing collectors, we will be able to publish subsequent volumes of the discography at intervals of approximately 3 - 6 months. Work on the first chapter for 1973, which examines the My Love single, has already started. Another big issue is the price of each volume. I hope that we will be able to print more copies in the future, which will bring the sale price down from its present level. The „Paul McCartney 7-inch Discography“ Project - Preorder General Preordering Information To keep the price down to an acceptable level, it will be necessary to order a print run of approximately 250 copies for each volume. The final preorder price stated on this webpage is based on this minimum amount. If we are able to implement a bigger print run, we will of course be able to announce a lower price. On the basis of the last quote we received from our printing company, we originally thought that 100 copies would be sufficient. However, as it turns out, with such a small print run, the final price for the 1971 volume would be around 10 euros higher. The preordering period is due to begin on June 28th and will go on for approximately 11 weeks. Volume 1 will be available at a special preorder price for the first five weeks, after which the regular preorder price will apply. Please appreciate that this relatively long preorder period is necessary because of the nature of the project. Right now, there is no other way we can do it. You are able to download a PDF-file with lots of preview pages, showing a selection of the content of all five chapters of the first volume.
