Most of them have been discovered and exploited from ancient times up to date. There are also other deposits for which a careful study and evaluation of geological reserves should be conducted. II.1. A General Overview in Mining Industry Albania is a country rich in mineral resources. Mineral exploration, exploitation and processing constitute a key component of the Albanian economy, due to a traditional mining industry, that has been a solid foundation to the country economic sector, generating substantial revenues. Chrome, copper, iron-nickel and coal, are some of the minerals mined and treated in Albania. Mining industry development in Albania has passed through three main stages: The first stage includes the period up to the end of World War II, marked by two important events. In 1922, has been compiled the first Geological Map of Albania, which was even the first of its kind in the Balkans. In 1929 has been approved the first Mining Law of the Albanian Kingdom, which paved the way to the exploration and/or exploitation of mineral resources in Albania; The second stage (1944-1994), marks the period when the mining activity has been organized in state-owned enterprises and the concept of mining privatization did not exist.

  • ABSTRACT in Albanian Coastal Area There Are Developed Mainly Two Important Aquifers; Gravelly Allu - Vial and Karst Aquifer
SOME CONSIDERATIONS ON SEAWATER-FRESHWATER RELATIONSHIP IN ALBANIAN COASTAL AREA R. Eftimi ITA Consult, Rr. Rreshit Collaku, pll.10/3/18, Tirana Albania ABSTRACT In Albanian coastal area there are developed mainly two important aquifers; gravelly allu - vial and karst aquifer. In the alluvial aquifer the sea water intrusion is developed either by natural conditions or by water extraction. About 15 to 55 % of the surface of different coastal gravelly aquifers is affected by seawater intrusion. Most coastal karst area is affected by sea - water intrusion. In some places where the carbonate structures overthrow to impermeable clayey formation fresh water karst springs issue. As a case studies the seawater intrusion in the alluvial basin of Mat River is described as well as the intake structure of the Uji Ftohte karst springs. 239 ALBANIA INRODUCTION which is located about 30 km far from the coast, the population of Adriatic coastal area is more Albania is situated in the southwestern part then 1,5 million persons, equal to more than 50 % of Balkan Peninsula on the eastern coasts of of country’s population. In the Adriatic coastal Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Otranto Channel width area is concentrated also more then 80 % of the about 80 km separates Albania by Italy. T h e industry and more then 70 % of agriculture. A Albanian coastline has a total length of 476 km, massive tourism is under fast development in this of which two thirds border Adriatic Sea and one area. In the Ionian coastal area there are only third the Ionian Sea, (figure 1).

For instance, the allocation of health and social care funding, housing, roads, water and sewerage and the provision and maintenance of schools have all distinctive aspects in urban and rural areas. Employment for urban and rural population has different features as well. In Albania, as in most other countries, it is difficult to distinguish exactly the urban population from the rural one. Even though not always reflecting what is certainly urban or rural, in Albania, the administrative definition based on the law is used also for statistical purposes. However, the present availability of small-area data derived from the 2011 population and housing census covering the entire territory of the country, has made possible an attempt to introduce also in Albania new definitions and classifications of urban and rural areas for statistical purposes.

The history of mankind knows a lot of civilizations, which failed due to the destruction of their energy regime and the lack of abilities to generate them. The civilization we are living is in a critical moment. The actual energy system, based since 20-30 years on the fossil fuels, is expected to pass through a huge shock. This is one of the main reasons why the developed countries have been directed towards other ways of using the renewable energy sources. The actual energy system in Albania is currently based completely at the hydro- energy. There are enormous doubts on its sustainability, as there are limited generation capacities towards the growing demand.
