Dec 03, 2015 08:00 CET Craft Sportswear and the Finnish national biathlon team launches ‘hannunvaakuna’ racing suit The collaboration between Swedish sportswear brand Craft and the Finnish national biathlon team has resulted in highly functional race garments with a truly strong presence. The new competition wear will be worn by Kaisa Mäkäräinen and her colleagues on the Finnish team during the 2015/2016 season. "We looked for something that would really set the suit apart from the competition," says Craft's designer Lena Karlsson. "Soon we came up with the 'hannunvaakuna', the looped square that is a common symbol in Finland and that conveys strength and good luck. Placing the patterns in lines that follow the moving body, we have created a suit that truly radiates speed and power." The new Finland Biathlon competition garments are based on Craft's revolutionary Podium Suit, which has been equipped with biathlon-specific details such as smooth rubber patches in certain areas to ensure steady and precise shooting. Made of very thin and lightweight Italian polyester, the suit offers superior moisture transport and body-temperature management. In addition, compression fabrics in the legs keep the muscles focused while ultrasonic taped seams create a smooth surface for optimal aerodynamics. The suit is packed with innovative features including Moving Wing Technology ™, which is a wing-like construction piece at the upper back that ensures total freedom of movement and allows the skiers to transmit all their power into each pole stroke. Furthermore, three-dimensional ergonomic design provides perfect fit and optimal comfort. Craft is a Swedish brand specializing in clothing for endurance sports where performance and comfort are crucial for a good result. -

Volume 10, Issue 3, 2018 Exploring Generation Y Consumers’ Fitness Clothing Consumption: A Means-end Chain Approach Katelyn Patrick Business Development Specialist, Glen Raven, MS & BS, College of Textiles, North Carolina State University Yingjiao Xu, Ph.D. Associate Professor, Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management, College of Textiles, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC ABSTRACT Thanks to the growing health awareness and the trend of athleisure, the fitness clothing market has been substantially growing. Generation Y consumers are one of the major segments for the sportswear industry in the U.S. The purpose of this study is to identify preferred product attributes, perceived benefits/consequences and driving values related to Generation Y consumers’ fitness clothing consumption. The means-end chain (MEC) model was adopted to identify the underlying values related to Generation Y consumers’ fitness clothing consumption. Data were collected from 35 subjects via laddering interviews. A hierarchical value matrix (HVM) was structured following the means-end chain analysis. Results highlighted Gen Y consumers’ self-esteem, social recognition, and financial needs in their consumption of fitness clothing. Aesthetics and price seemed to be the most salient attributes identified by the subjects for fitness clothing, followed by durability, performance, fit, breathability and wick-ability. Connecting product attributes to consumer values, perceived consequences included economic value, comfort, image, efficiency, and avoiding embarrassment. This study revealed the major values underlying Generation Y consumers’ consumption of fitness clothing as well as preferred product attributes and perceived benefits/consequences. These findings could provide great implications to the fitness clothing companies in their product development and marketing communication. -

1 Jewish wigs and Islamic sportswear: Negotiating regulations of religion and fashion Emma Tarlo Goldsmiths, University of London Abstract This article explores the dynamics of freedom and conformity in religious dress prescriptions and fashion, arguing that although fashion is popularly perceived as liberating and religion as constraining when it comes to dress, in reality both demand conformity to normative expectations while allowing some freedom of interpretation. The article goes on to trace the emergence of new forms of fashionable religious dress such as the human-hair wigs worn by some orthodox Jewish women and the new forms of Islamic sportswear adopted by some Muslim women. It shows how these fashions have emerged through the efforts of religiously observant women to subscribe simultaneously to the expectations of fashion and religious prescription, which are seen to operate in a relationship of creative friction. In doing so, they invent new ways of dressing that push the boundaries of religious and fashion norms even as they seek to conform to them. Viewed in this light, new forms of fashionable religious dress should be seen not so much as attempts to dilute or circumvent religious prescriptions and regulations, but rather as aspiring to obey the rules of fashion and the rules of religion simultaneously. -

In this research, a type of bamboo charcoal polyester (BC-PET)/antibacterial nylon(AN)/stainless steel wire (SSW) metal composite yarn was prepared with a hollow spindle spinning machine, which using the SSW as the core material, the BC-PET and AN as the outer and inner wrapped yarns, respectively. The wrapping numbers was set at 8.0turns/cm for the produced metal composite yarns. Furthermore, a type of plated knitted fabric was designed and produced by using the automatic jacquard knitting machine. The plated knitted fabric presents the BC-PET/AN/SSW metal composite yarn on the knitted fabric face and the crisscross-section polyester (CSP) on the knit back. The effect of lamination numbers and angles on the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) were discussed in this study. EMSE measurement showed that the lamination angles will influence the EMSE, but not affect the air permeability. -

A questionnaire was answered by 93 respondents and enough data to analyze was gathered. Enough empirical data was collected.
