Parents What to Expect. 216 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114 Phone: 316-284 Coaches, MAYB would like to thank you for choosing to participate in the June 24-26, 2011 Denver basketball tournament. We are looking forward to another exciting weekend of competition, here in the Mile High City. This year we are hosting over 110 teams from across the Midwestern United States. We welcome you all… Enclosed you will find your team’s schedule along with a map of Denver and directions to our sites. If we can be of further assistance, please don’t hesitate to call us. • Make sure to locate all of your pool games. If you’re in a pool of 5 then you have 4 pool games. If you’re in a pool of 4 then you have 3 pool games. If you’re in a pool of 3 you have 2 pool games. • Bracket Play – The Posters on the wall at each site are final. Any changes made will be reflected on the posters. Please communicate this to your parents. • When you arrive to your first game please pick up your two complimentary coach’s passes and sign in (leave a phone number for us to contact you). • On Friday, heading into Colorado Springs or through Denver, you may run into traffic. Please give yourself plenty of time to arrive on time to your first game. • Admissions: An adult day pass costs $7 and a weekend pass is $10. (Children's prices run $4 and $8 respectively.) No checks will be accepted. Please tell your parents what to expect. • If you have any player on your team that other coaches may question their eligibility (this usually occurs in younger age groups), YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW PROOF OF CURRENT GRADE. If there is no proof, you will forfeit the game and the player will become ineligible for the remainder of the tournament. We have had a few problems with this in the past; let’s not make it an issue this year. • with this in the past; let’s not make it an issue at all this year. Contact Numbers: Marc Sokol (954) 661-2439 Charlie Tingstrom (303) 638-2663 Ryan Wurst (303) 501-7554 216 N. Main, Newton, KS 67114 Phone: 316-284-0354 - FAX: 316-284-0294 Website: www.mayb.com Tournament Regulations and Guidelines 1. Regulation High School Activities Association rules will be followed with the following exceptions: Rule Change: For all High School Divisions, there will be a 16 minute stop clock. If the lead is 15 or more the clock will run. • For all other divisions there will be a 20 minute running clock except for last 2 minutes of each half, unless one team is ahead by 15 or more. If lead falls below 15 points, clock will again stop. In addition, clock will stop on all technical fouls, injuries or timeouts (including officials TO). Clock does not restart until it would in a normal dead ball situation. • 5 minute halftime and 5 minute pre-game warm-up. Game time is forfeit time (On Fridays we will use our discretion if teams are a few minutes late due to traffic). • 3rd-6th boys use a girl’s ball. 7th boys use a men’s ball. • We recommend jerseys with numbers on front and back. No number restrictions exist. • 4 timeouts per game, no 30 second timeouts. 2. Players may play on only one team within a tournament age group. Player's eligibility will be checked by a current grade card, if requested. Players may play "up" in an older age group. This could mean a player plays in the 8th grade tournament and the 9th-10th grade division. But they can't play on 2 teams in the same 8th grade tournament. 3. Each team is required to provide an adult scorekeeper or clock operator for each game. We have had great success with this. Please do not put kids in this situation. It is unfair to them if adults are yelling at them! 4. Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated!!! A referee may remove players from the game or tournament for inappropriate behavior. We are here for the kids. Do not allow or condone poor sportsmanship. This includes coaches and parents! 5. Each tournament building will have a Site Director. Please direct questions to this individual during the weekend. 6. Tie breaker procedure is as follows: 1st criterion is head to head competition. If head to head doesn’t work then 2nd criteria is point differential to a maximum of 10 points per game. We will add up every pool game point differential and the team with the most positive points will be the highest seed. The other two teams will then figure out their seed based on head to head competition. The third criteria will be a coin flip. 7. Overtimes will be 2 minutes in length with regular stop clock operation. There will be a maximum of 2 overtime periods, after that it is sudden death. 8. All roster changes made after the entry deadline should be given to the tournament director before playing a game at a specific tournament. Grade cards will still be used to determine eligibility. You should have these with you at all times in case of protest. Final eligibility rulings will be made by the area director if weekend conflicts occur. There is no way for the National Office to make these decisions. If you know players will be gone, plan ahead! We want everyone to be able to play, but we do not want teams bringing in players on Sunday because they feel it is the only way to win the tournament.
