CSC, Midnapore Report 1 CSC, Midnapore Report 1. Active Teaching Learning Programmes have been organized and continued jointly, as in earlier years by TEACHING LEARNING CENTRE, IIT, Kharagpur and IAPT-Midnapore College CSC for school children and teachers from January to March ,2020, till the beginning of lockdown period. 2. Dr. S C Samanta, demonstrated few experiments in a two-day faculty development programme organized by Department of Physics, St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous) Kolkata with inputs from CSC, on 11th January 2020. Mr. Anirban Samnta, a student of the Department of Electronics, Vidyasagar University, assisted to Dr. Samanta. 3. Some educational institutions and science organisations including CSC formed a group, Vidyasagar Talent Hunt (VTH), to observe the birth bicentenary of Iswarchandra Vidyasagar. On behalf of VTH, the CSC organized residential Academic Camps for 40 days spanned over the period from December 2019 to March,2020. In these Camps, the 50 class VIII students, chosen on the basis of means cum merit , from the districts of Jhargram, East Medinipur and West Medinipur of West Bengal were trained for their academic enrichment. 4. But the CSC stopped organising the Camps due to pandemic and started online teaching . But it was not that effective as the students were residing in rural areas where internet connection is weak and most of them do not have the smart phone also. 5. A Pedagogy Innovation Workshop for in-Service school teachers was organized by Sevayatan B. Ed College, Jhargram on and from 16th to 20th January, 2020. In this workshop 39 science teachers had participated. The lab inputs for this workshop was provided by the CSC. 6. A pedagogy Innovation Workshop for in-service school teachers was organized by Uluberia B. Ed. College, Uluberia, Howrah on and from 10th to 14th February, 2020. In this workshop, 102 science trainee teachers had participated. The laboratory component of this workshop was also provided by CSC. 7. The CSC provided the necessary laboratory facilities for trying out the experiments selected for National Graduate Physics Examination Part-C 2020 ( in the July- August,2020 period) This is the first time in the history of IAPT NGPE part-C was successfully held through online mode. The experiments involved very inexpensive equipment and materials so that any candidate sitting at home, even in a very rural environment, could purchase or collect them for performing the experiments in the examination. Altogether 27 students from the different parts of the country were called for the Part C examination out of nearly 12000 candidates who appeared for the theory examination. This NGPE Part-C examination was held on 23rd August 2020. 8. Dr. Rajib Pradhan, Department of Physics, Midnapore College (Autonomous), Midnapore, Centre-in-Charge, CSC, acted as resource person in C. K. MAJUMDAR MEMORIAL WORKSHOP IN PHYSICS 2020, organized jointly by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (Regional Council 15) [IAPT RC 15] and S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences [SNBNCBS], Kolkata (Dec 28, 2020 to Jan 04, 2021). With lab inputs from CSC, he designed an experiment on Fourier Optics to study diffraction through image analysis, jointly with Dr. Pradipta Panchadhyayee, Department of Physics, Prabhat Kumar College, Contai. 9. The regular activities and outreach programmes of the CSC have hampered due to the pandemic situation. But still CSC in collaboration with others organized three events in the period from October, 2020 to February,2021: i) Curtain raising programme for celebrating the birth centenary of Dr D P Khandelwal on his birthday October 1.The participants in this national level programme are senior IAPT members like Professor S Lokanathan, Professor P N Ghosh, Professor RM Dharkar, Professor H C Pradhan, Dr B Chakraborti, Dr S. Chakraborti and many others . The programme was organised from an online platform managed by Dr S M Hossain and Dr P Panchadhyayee. ii) D P Khandelwal Forum for Science Education, initiated by RC 15 & CSC, organised "Online Competition in Physics Practical for Plus2 Students" . iii) " Online Competition in Science Projects for Secondary Students from class VI to X " in collaboration with Science Centre, Midnapore. 10. CSC is collaborating Science Centre, Midnapore for implementation of it's offline project sanctioned by NCSTC, DST, Govt of India on the theme : "How to generate ideas of science projects for school students". In this project, four 3-day Workshops will be held, each involving 40 science teachers, in four districts of West Bengal. CSC will be providing academic inputs to the whole project. Though it would be an offline event, still we shall start preliminary discussions with the teacher -participants in online mode in odd hours i.e. late evening. So that more time is available for offline Workshops. Prepared by S. C. Samanta with inputs from Dr Rajib Pradhan, incharge, CSC, Midnapore..
