WELCOME 1.1 FOREWORD The great history of the car in Italy is the great history of Automobile Club of Italy and also that of the Italian motorsport. A long history made of genius, passion, open vision on the future, but also of refined technical research, intuition and talent. Many pages of extraordinary beauty written by us also in the wor- ld of competitions, the absolute heritage of ACI as the Italian Federation of Motorsport. One of the most interesting chapters of this long journey is certainly the one concerning Rally Italia, which since 2004 landed in the splendid island of Sardinia. A long story, built by the deeds of the many champions who have passed on our roads and their cars, the maximum expression over time of the technique connected to motorsport. An event of fundamental importance, which we have always supported and which over the past few years we have defended deci- sively to keep it within the World Rally Championship. An effort of mediation, and also an economic one, which has seen us engaged within a world panorama in quick evolution and which has seen the expulsion from the WRC in recent years also of races with a prestigious history. A commitment that ultimately led to signing a contract last year that up to 2022 safeguards RIS’s place in the World Rally Championship calendar. 3 I like to underline that in this battle ACI, its women and its men, have never been alone. Much of the credit for the overwhelming growth of this race, one of the best in the international arena, is in fact ascribed RG1 to the Sardinia Region, which considers this event one of the most important channels for promoting its territory in the world, and to the local authorities always close to us and ready to collaboration. In parti- cular, I would like to thank the authorities of Alghero and Olbia, prestigious locations for the race this year. Lastly, a greeting to the FIA President Jean Todt and to all the members of the International Federation of Motorsport who have not made us miss their constructive criticisms, but also their fundamental con- tribution and their friendship.
