Audience with a Delegation of Municipalities of Trentino N. 180324c Saturday 24.03.2018 Audience with a delegation of Municipalities of Trentino At 12.10 today, in the Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace, the Holy Father Francis received in audience a delegation of Municipalities of Trentino, led by H.E. Msgr. Lauro Tisi, archbishop of Trento. The following is the Pope’s address to those present: Address of the Holy Father Dear brothers and sisters, I am glad to welcome you, representatives of the Communities of Trentino, who for twenty years have collaborated generously with the Holy See, especially the Governorate of Vatican City State, in various activities and initiatives. I think in particular of the various associations, businesses and families of the Muncipalities of Carisolo, Pinzolo and Tesero, as well as the Alpini, the Forest Corps and the Civil Protection. To each one of you I address a warm greeting, starting from Dr. Ugo Rossi, president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, your archbishop, Msgr. Lauro Tisi, whom I thank for his kind words, and all of you who, with your presence, demonstrate the devotion and affection of the entire population of Trentino towards the Pope. This meeting of ours offers me the opportunity to express my grateful appreciation for your effort in giving concrete support to different projects, aimed especially at the reception of pilgrims and visitors here in the Vatican. With your contribution, you express the traditional values of faith, laboriousness and solidarity, well rooted in your land. There is a great need these days for people who know how to bear courageous witness to the moral values taught by the Gospel! I encourage you to continue in your intention to spread the culture of acceptance and a model of open and fraternal life, in harmony with our dignity as children of God. May your families be true “domestic churches” founded on the Word of Jesus, on love for the Church and service to life. They will thus constitute schools of human and Christian values for the new generations. Generously spread the Gospel seed of charity in the 2 places where Providence calls you to work. Dear friends, may this pause at the heart of Christianity help you to deepen your faith and prepare with fervour for Easter, now close. I entrust you and your families to the caring intercession of Mary, Mother of the Church and, as I ask you to pray for me, I impart my Apostolic Blessing..

The CMS experiment is supporting the R&D in the scope of the Inner Tracker upgrade for the High Luminosity phase of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC). In the HL-LHC the Inner Tracker 16 2 will have to withstand an integrated fluence up to 2:3 × 10 neq=cm . A small number of 3D sensors were interconnected with the RD53A readout chip, which is the first prototype of 65 nm CMOS pixel readout chip designed for the HL-LHC pixel trackers. In this paper results obtained in beam tests before and after irradiation are reported. Irradiation of a single chip module was performed up 16 2 to a maximum equivalent fluence of about 1 × 10 neq=cm . Analysis of the collected data shows excellent performance: spatial resolution in not irradiated (fresh) sensors is about 3 to 5 µm depending on the pixel pitch. Hit detection efficiencies are close to 99% measured both before and after the above mentioned irradiation fluence. Presented at HSTD12 12th International Hiroshima Symposium on the Development and Application of Semiconductor Tracking Detectors (HSTD12) Radiation Resistant Innovative 3D Pixel Sensors for the CMS Upgrade at the High Luminosity LHC M.

  • Trento Training School: the Rhetorical Roots of Argumentation
TRENTO TRAINING SCHOOL: THE RHETORICAL ROOTS OF ARGUMENTATION. A LEGAL EXPERIENCE FACULTY OF LAW, UNIVERSITY OF TRENTO, ITALY 30 August – 4 September 2021 TRAINERS: Francesca Piazza: Full Professor of Philosophy and Theory of Language in the Department of Humanistic Sciences at the University of Palermo (Italy). She is also the President of the Society of Philosophy of Language and the Director of the Department of Humanistic Sciences at the University of Palermo. She has written several publications and books dealing with the importance of rhetoric in public policy argumentation. Abstract: Aristotle’s Rhetoric: a Theory of Persuasion Francesca Piazza (University of Palermo) The topic of my lectures will be Aristotle’s Rhetoric. Against a still persistent tendency to underestimate the philosophical value of this work (see Barnes, 1995, p. 263), I will argue that it is a stimulating place of theoretical reflection on the role of persuasion in human life. However, in order to fully exploit this theoretical value it is necessary to consider Aristotle’s Rhetoric as a unitary work inserted in the general framework of Aristotelian thought (see Grimaldi, 1972; Garver, 1986, Piazza 2008). Starting from the definition of rhetoric as the “ability to see, in any given case, the possible means of persuasion” (Arist. Rhet. 1355b26–7), I will focus on the idea of rhetoric as a techne and on the role it plays in the public sphere. In this way, I will highlight the originality of the Aristotelian perspective with respect to both the Sophists and Plato. Particular attention will be devoted to the concept of eikos (likelihood or probable) that can be considered one of the key notions of Aristotle’s Rhetoric.

Increasing Image Memorability with Neural Style Transfer ALIAKSANDR SIAROHIN, University of Trento, Italy GLORIA ZEN, University of Trento, Italy CVETA MAJTANOVIC, University of Trento, Italy and University of Novi Sad, Serbia XAVIER ALAMEDA-PINEDA, Inria, France ELISA RICCI, University of Trento and Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Italy NICU SEBE, University of Trento, Italy Recent works in computer vision and multimedia have shown that image memorability can be automatically inferred exploiting powerful deep learning models. This paper advances the state of the art in this area by addressing a novel and more challenging issue: “Given an arbitrary input image, can we make it more memorable?”. To tackle this problem we introduce an approach based on an editing-by-applying-filters paradigm: given an input image, we propose to automatically retrieve a set of “style seeds”, i.e. a set of style images which, applied to the input image through a neural style transfer algorithm, provide the highest increase in memorability. We show the effectiveness of the proposed approach with experiments on the publicly available LaMem dataset, performing both a quantitative evaluation and a user study. To demonstrate the flexibility of the proposed framework, we also analyze the impact of different implementation choices, such as using different state of the art neural style transfer methods. Finally, we show several qualitative results toprovide additional insights on the link between image style and memorability.
