The seven wrestlers have combined for 17 NCAA championship qualifications, piloted by four three-time qualifiers in Demas, Moore, Thomas and Woodley. X The Sooners were crowned champions of the Big 12 Conference at the 2021 Big 12 championship when Starters Returning/Lost: 9/1 they scored 124 points to tie Oklahoma State for the title. X It was Oklahoma wrestling’s 24th conference championship all-time, but first since 2002. The team was NCAA Qualifiers Returning/Lost: 5/1 powered by a trio of finalists and one individual champion in Dom Demas. The Sooners took the lead in session two behind five bonus point victories in the consolation bracket. OU WRESTLING HISTORY HOW WE GOT HERE National Championships: 7 X Six of the Oklahoma qualifiers earned auto-bids based on their performances at the Big 12 1936, 1951, 1952, 1957, 1960, 1963, 1974 Championship, and the seventh qualifier, Anthony Mantanona, earned an at-large bid to secure his spot in the field. Conference Titles: 23 X The NCAA announced that the Big 12 Conference earned 45 pre-allocations to the 2021 NCAA Division 1930, 1932, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1938, 1948, I Wrestling Championships in St. Louis. The allocations are spread amongst all 10 weight classes, with six classes earning five spots (125, 133, 149, 165, 197 and 285). Individual National Champions: 67 X The Sooners have landed eight top-100 recruits since Rosselli took over, including 2021 signees Tate Individual Conference Champions: 186 Picklo (#1 at 195) and Alejandro Herrera (#3 at 152). HONORING DANNY HODGE X The Sooners honored legendary wrestler and Sooner, Danny Hodge, before the Feb. 7 dual with Oklahoma State with a video that featured legends of the wrestling community. X Hodge, a National Wrestling Hall of Famer, died on Dec. 24, 2020, at the age of 88 in his hometown of Perry, Okla. He came to Norman from Perry in 1955 to wrestle of hall-of-fame-coach Port Robertson. Hodge compiled a perfect 46-0 record as a Sooner, winning 36 of his matches via fall. X The legend won three consecutive national titles, and his performance at the 1957 NCAA championship earned him MOW honors and led the Sooners to their fourth national championship.
