Local Elections in Taraclia County On 23 January, local elections were held in Taraclia County. The former Taraclia District, which con- tains a substantial Bulgarian minority, boycotted the May 1999 local elections after the district was in- cluded in Cahul County. To ease tensions in south- ern Moldova, the government created Taraclia County in October 1999, and elections were set for January 2000.
