A Preview of Our View Fence Project

By Jake Monday

HERE! Maintenance Director Promote Your Business Your Promote

There have been many improvements the maintenance team has completed this year throughout the community, but one of our biggest maintenance projects for 2018 will kick off this fall. Many homes in the community have a view fence in their backyard to enhance their view of the community, desert, and mountains. These fences must be maintained to uphold their visual appeal, including painting them regularly (every four years). Our last view fence painting project occurred in 2014 and completing this in 2018 is one of our main goals forthe community. Now that temperatures are cooling down, it’s time for this project to heat up. We’re currently soliciting bids for this project, which is paid for out of the Association’s reserve fund. The maintenance team

will review the bids and present them to the Board of Directors

LOOK! to approve at an upcoming meeting. Painting will begin shortly

YOU

after if the Board approves a bid.

MADE MADE If you live in a home with a view fence, pay extra attention to our eNews for painting schedules. You’ll also receive a notice on your door closer to the time your fence will be painted because the painter will need access to your rear yard to complete their work. You will need to move plants, critter guards, and other items near your view fence prior to painting. Check our eNews and Facebook page this fall for estimated dates for this project to be completed, along with before and after shots to see the beautification of the community in action.

THREE EASY STEPS TO WINNING $258 By Adam Rosen Communications Coordinator

In today’s never-ending news cycle, good news isn’t heard as much as it should be. Most of the time, the sad news of the world rule the headlines, leaving little space and time for the great things people do for their community. We want to change that narrative, however. Not only do we want to share your story, but we, in conjunction with our magazine publisher Print2Order, want to pay your quarterly assessments for doing so. 1. Have something noble, honorable, memorable, or epic done for you by a neighbor. Have a neighbor take in your trash bin while you weren’t home to avoid a violation? Nominate them. Did someone chase down your recycle bin, trampoline, or other personal item during a monsoon? Nominate them. Is your next-door neighbor always there when you need them with a warm smile, a cooked meal, or free babysitting? Definitely nominate them! 2. Share your story with us. Visit myvistancia.com and fill out the It Takes a Village nomination form. Tell us who you’re nominating and why in less than 200 words and submit your nomination electronically. 3. Have your story chosen as the quarter’s winner of the It Takes a Village recognition program. Not only will you see your story in an upcoming edition of Vistancia Living magazine, Print2Order will give both the neighbor you nominate and you for nominating $258 toward your quarterly assessments! It’s that simple! Follow the steps above and you may find yourself $258 richer!

Will You be the Ultimate Survivor? By Kelly Strand Lifestyle Director

Over its 36 seasons, the hit television reality competition “Survivor” has visited exotic locales including Thailand, Nicaragua, and Fiji (and yes, there has been 36 seasons and 540 episodes of the show since 2000!). There has never been a competition set in the sweltering desert of northwest Peoria…until now! We are bringing the competition to outwit, outplay, and outlast to the community with a special, Australian-themed “Survivor: Down Under” from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, on the Mountain Vista Club Event Lawn. Get your team of four together to compete in obstacle courses, mazes, puzzles, and trivia. In the spirit of the show, you’ll want to make sure to have a team member with a strong stomach to handle any food competitions that may come, too! If you’re able to outplay and outlast the rest of the teams, you’ll go home with special prizes! The winning team will receive tickets to Out of Africa Wildlife Park in Camp Verde where you’ll meet lions and tigers and bears and many more furry friends. Runners-up will receive a special trip to the Outback…Steakhouse. Sign up your team today at myvistancia.com/survivor for just $10 per team. Due to the nature of the challenges, children under the age of six are not advised to participate in this event, but spectators of all ages are welcome and encouraged to be on the Event Lawn to take in all the action! Thank you to our great sponsors for this event: Cross of Glory Church, Legacy Smiles, and Zona Communications! Want a sneak peek at the “Survivor” action? Barre Raises the Bar for Community Workouts By Hannah Crosby Lifestyle Assistant

Specialized fitness classes can be hard to find locally, but Vistancia resident Andrea Ladner offers barre fitness classes in our clubhouse. A well-known barre instructor, Andrea leads a great program that you will want to be part of. Her class is fun, upbeat, and an opportunity to get your sweat on. Read on to learn more about her class along with her special challenge this month and what you can win by attending, besides a good workout and a great time! “Barre workouts aren’t new to the fitness world, but they are still new to many people. Barre is an exercise program which combines movements inspired by ballet, pilates, and yoga to strengthen and develop muscles, improve balance, and increase flexibility. You will walk away with a total body workout from this class which will target the upper and lower body, core, and give you a cardio boost as well. You will use light hand weights, a small exercise ball, and your body weight as resistance. Class participants have ranged from professional ballet dancers to individuals just beginning to exercise. Everybody is welcome! Don’t have fancy leggings or know how to put a fancy bun in your hair? No problem; I would love to have you in class! I was certified in the barre format 10 years ago and fell in love with it! I have never been a dancer; in fact, I may have more of the grace of a football player. But, it was exactly what my body needed. It gave me a total body workout with no impact. I am now self-employed as a personal trainer hosting my class in the community. I love being able to connect more everyday with the people of Vistancia and I want to help you connect, too! We did our first Barre and Brunch last month and are doing a basket giveaway this month. Each time you come to one of my classes your name will be entered in a drawing. There are also other fun ways to get additional entries: bring a friend, introduce yourself to the class and tell us why you love barre or Vistancia, or wear your tutu or leg warmers. The drawing will be held during our class on Sept. 28, and you do not need to be present to win. Pre-registration is not required (unless designated). Each class is $5 per person. Please bring a mat, light hand weights, a towel, and water. I look forward to seeing you!” Visit a barre class and see what makes Andrea’s class so special. If you can’t make this month, you won’t want to miss October’s pink barre for breast cancer awareness. LIONS!GO Not Business as Usual: New Focus on Relationships for Liberty Lions By Liberty Newspaper Staff

The sophomore slump is a myth to principal Tawn Argeris. Not content to rest on the laurels of a successful first year, Argeris was hungry to make his impact on Liberty. The eager principal and his administrative team came to the staff at the beginning of the year with a single goal: build relationships. The academic achievement was already there; Liberty scored well over the state average in nearly all core subject areas. The athletic achievement was already there; heck, the afterglow of a stunning state title run in is still rippling through the school. The arts programs, the clubs, and all the other facets of the school were there and running at near peak efficiency. “You can’t just dive back in [to the school year] and say we’re going to do it again—you’ve got to get a better angle on it,” Argeris said. One of the few things Argeris saw that needed extra focus was the relationship aspect—not just from teacher to student, but also from teacher to teacher. “We become better at what we do [when we build relationships]. We work better with kids. They buy in more,” Argeris said. The idea is that if teachers can foster stronger relationships with those around them, everything that already works well will work better. Teachers are being asked to step out of their comfort zones and form bonds across departments within the school. Extra attendance to games, concerts, and other activities is being heavily emphasized to show more support for the extracurricular efforts of the students. More visibility on campus during passing periods is encouraged. The motto for the year—We are Liberty—is emblazoned on the yearly staff shirt to serve as a constant reminder that Liberty is not just a school, but indeed a community. “If we build the right place and everybody loves to come here… that’s the place we want to be,” Argeris said. “Trust us. We’re going to move forward. We’re going to make this a better place.” community | 23 lake pleasant elementary

Growth -- It’s a Balancing Act By Bridget Binsbacher Mesquite District Representative | Peoria City Council

Balanced and responsible growth has been a priority of mine since taking office. As our city continues to grow, it is important that we ensure a proper balance between protection of the natural environment and planned development. Visitors, residents, and businesses are attracted to our high quality of life, which is rooted in our beautiful landscape, great schools, low crime rate, and abundant recreational opportunities. We typically get one shot at development from the onset. With changes in our retail landscape brought with the rise of online shopping, consumers are looking for experience-based destinations, unique product offerings, and variety. There isa renewed focus for distinctive and iconic development that offers variety in product type, elevated architectural and site design mixed with opportunities for social gathering, and connections to surrounding neighborhoods. These are the factors that foster community identity and civic pride. Additionally, we need to continue our efforts at attracting jobs and employment sectors to our local economy. This not only provides the opportunity for our workforce to live and work in the same community but reduces commuting which contributes to congestion on our streets and impacts to our environment. Our Economic Development Department has data and studies on workforce, transportation, costs, and resources to help businesses make an educated decision and guide them toward success. While we continue to refine and strengthen plans for growth, we remain legally obligated to respond and guide current development requests. Part of the balance described above is the recognition that like each of us -- people have a right to develop their property – provided the plans are in alignment with relevant laws and codes.
