Stagecoach Group plc Response to the Joint Preliminary Consultation on Automated Vehicles Stagecoach Group plc (“Stagecoach Group”) welcomes the consultation by the Scottish and English Law Commissions on Automated Vehicles. Stagecoach Group is actively participating in trialling automated vehicles in both the depot and public transport environments, working with technology developers, vehicle manufacturers, academia and others. We welcome the consultation as another important initiative in this area. The consultation is wide – ranging in scope and some of the questions posed will be better able to be answered as more information and understanding of automated vehicles and their use in different scenarios emerges. Equally, we do not propose to respond to or comment on all questions but we offer views based on our experience to date as one of the UK’s biggest bus and coach operators, with some 8,000 buses and coaches operating in different environments across the UK. We look forward to future initiatives, particularly the planned consultation on automated vehicles in Mobility as a Service and the challenges of achieving “everything somewhere” later this year. All London-bound trains from Wool call at Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton Central and Southampton Airport Parkway. Southampton Central is the main interchange point for a number of other rail services, namely: Portsmouth-Southampton-Salisbury-Bristol-Cardiff services operated by First Great Western. Bournemouth-Southampton-Reading-Birmingham-the North operated by CrossCountry. Southampton-Chichester-Brighton & -Gatwick-London (Victoria) services operated by Southern. Local services to Romsey, Eastleigh, Fareham and Portsmouth. All Weymouth-bound trains call at Dorchester South. From here, there is a well-signposted 10- minute walk to Dorchester West for train services to Yeovil, Westbury, Bath and Bristol operated by First Great Western. Alternatively, you can change between the two services at Upwey Station. You can plan your rail journey using the National Rail journey planner. -

Transit Service Design Guidelines Department of Rail and Public Transportation November 2008 Transit Service Design Guidelines Why were these guidelines for new transit service developed? In FY2008 alone, six communities in Virginia contacted the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation about starting new transit service in their community. They and many other communities throughout Virginia are interested in learning how new transit services can enhance travel choices and mobility and help to achieve other goals, such as quality of life, economic opportunity, and environmental quality. They have heard about or seen successful transit systems in other parts of the state, the nation, or the world, and wonder how similar systems might serve their communities. They need objective and understandable information about transit and whether it might be appropriate for them. These guidelines will help local governments, transit providers and citizens better understand the types of transit systems and services that are available to meet community and regional transportation needs. The guidelines also help the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT) in making recommendations to the Commonwealth Transportation Board for transit investments, by 1) providing information on the types of systems or services that are best matched to community needs and local land use decisions, and 2) ensuring that resources are used effectively to achieve local, regional, and Commonwealth goals. Who were these guidelines developed for? These guidelines are intended for three different audiences: local governments, transit providers and citizens. Therefore, some will choose to read the entire document while others may only be interested in certain sections. -

FTA encourages States to use the funding under 49 U.S.C. 5311(f) to support these national objectives, as well as priorities determined by the State.
