6 Version 3.6.1 System Requirements System Requirements See the Tier 2 Tivoli Management Framework, Version 3.6.1, Release Notes for specific software and hardware levels and patch configurations.

Hardware Requirements The following sections provide space requirements for endpoint files Use the space requirements that follow as general guidelines rather than absolute totals or even averages. The actual space requirements for each item depend on the size and configurations of your TMRs.

Gateways and Managed Nodes The disk space requirements for the files (Logfile and SNMP) installed on the gateways and managed nodes are about the same as for 3.6. 3.6.1-TEC-0007 uses 28 MB, and and 3.6.1-TEC-0015 uses 3 MB.

Endpoint Files The disk space requirements for the endpoint adapter files (Logfile and SNMP) installed on the endpoints are the same as for 3.6.

TEC Adapters Tier 2 Release Notes 7 Installation Notes Installation Notes It is strongly recommended that, for this Tier 2 release, you use the Tivoli Software Installation Service (SIS) installation process, and not the classic installation procedures. See the SIS User’s Guide for instructions on using SIS. Also see the Software Installation Service (SIS) section of the Tier 2 Framework 3.6.1 notes for additional Tier 2-specific information.

Installing the non-TME Adapters to 3.6.1 Patch Installation of the TME 10 Adapter Configuration Facility 3.6.1 patch release requires that ACF 3.6 already be installed in your TMR. Note the following items related to the different TEC components you will be upgrading to 3.6.1. ■ The non-TME adapter is available on the CD-ROM as /cdrom/ADAPTERS/NON_TME/INTERP/LOGFILE.TAR This contains all files necessary for a logfile adapter installation, and can therefore be used as a new installation in addition to an upgrade. ■ The non-TME adapter for DEC Alpha NT is available on the CD-ROM as /cdrom/ADAPTERS/NON_TME/W32-AXP/InstallSNMP/setup.exe

TEC Adapters Tier 2 Release Notes 13 Installation Notes

This contains all files necessary for SNMP adapter installation, and can therefore be used as a fresh install in addition to an upgrade. ■ The non-TME adapter for UNIX is available on the CD-ROM as /cdrom/ADAPTERS/NON_TME/INTERP/SNMP.TAR This contains all files necessary for SNMP adapter installation, and can therefore be used as a fresh install in addition to an upgrade. ■ TME 10 Event Integration Facility 3.6.1: This program can be installed on all nodes on which the EIF 3.6 was installed.

14 Version 3.6.1 Defects, Limitations, and Workarounds Defects, Limitations, and Workarounds This section describes known defects in this release of Tivoli EIF, Logfile, and SNMP Adapters, Version 3.6.1. This might not represent the complete list of defects. Refer to the list of defects in the Enterprise Console Release Notes Version 3.6.1. Where applicable and known, suggested workarounds are identified. 1. Notice that the TEC server and TEC console can only be installed on Tier 1 platforms. Tier 2 platforms must rely on a Tier 1 platform to provide these TEC components. 2. After migrating endpoints from one gateway to another, TEC events sent from the migrated endpoint might be temporarily interrupted. Workaround: Immediately after migrating an endpoint from which you are receiving TEC events, execute the following: wadminep ep_name view_version TEC events from the endpoint should recommence. It is highly recommended that you apply the permanent fix for this problem as follows: Fix: To correct Tier 2 endpoints, apply service patch 3.6.1-TMF-0055 to your 3.6.1 gateways, and follow the patch directions to upgrade all of your Tier 2 endpoints. Consult Tivoli Customer Support (http://www.tivoli.com/support) for the availability of this patch. 3. TEC adapters rely on the command to determine type. If the uname command is used to change the default system settings, the TEC adapters may not function correctly. A chart in the Product Notes section of this document shows the output of the uname -a command on Tier 2 platforms. 4. Uninstall of Tier 2 endpoints is not supported in this release. 5. Sequent endpoints must be installed using local disk space. Installation on NFS-mounted disk space will not work. 6. The example configuration file in the Event Integration Facility User’s Guide will not work correctly with EIF. The example shows a ServerPort parameter set to 9999. If portmapper is

TEC Adapters Tier 2 Release Notes 15 Product Notes

unavailable on your system, either set this optional parameter to 0 or omit it. 7. On UnixWare 2.1.x machines, if the syslogd daemon is not already running, you must create the /etc/syslog.conf file and start syslogd using /etc/syslog.conf. If you do not follow this procedure, you cannot start the Logfile Adapter. 8. FX!32 V1.5 must be installed on DEC Alpha endpoints. 9. The file permissions on the CD-ROM do not have execute permissions. If the CD image is exported from a UNIX system, you will not be able to execute the setup.exe program to install the DEC Alpha NT Non-TME Logfile and SNMP adapters. Workarounds: The DEC Alpha NT Non-TME Logfile and SNMP adapters can be installed in any of these three ways: ■ Place the CD-ROM in the DEC Alpha NT machine and run the setup.exe program to install the Non-TME adapters. ■ Share the CD-ROM from a DEC Alpha NT or Intel NT machine, map the network drive to your DEC Alpha NT machine, and run the setup.exe to install the Non-TME adapters. ■ Copy the contents of the CD-ROM to an exported and change the permissions on the setup.exe program to r-xr-x-r-x. Once the file permissions have been changed, use or similar software to export the TEC image so that it can be mapped from the DEC Alpha NT machine. Finally, you can run the setup.exe program to install the Non-TME adapters. 10. On Red Hat 6.1, the default /etc/hosts file is incorrect, and should be modified to reflect the true IP address of the endpoint machine.

Product Notes ■ Only Logfile and SNMP Adapters and the Event Integration Facility (EIF) are supported on Tier 2 platforms. ■ Endpoint adapters can be deleted from a given endpoint by distributing a profile that no longer contains an entry record for the

16 Version 3.6.1 Product Notes

adapter to that endpoint. The absence of the adapter record will cause the adapter to be shut down and removed at the endpoint. See Chapter 9, Adapter Configuration Facility,” of the Tivoli Enterprise Console User’s Guide, Version 3.6 for more information on managing profile records. ■ The tecad_nt adapter must be used for both Intel and DEC-Alpha NT logfile adapters. ■ Expected return values from uname:
