Volunteer/Sports Medicine Coverage Experience

Semi-Annual Free Physicals for Akron Youth Athletes, Akron, OH 2018 – Present Volunteer multiple times per year to provide free, mass pre-participation physicals to hundreds of underserved youth in the Akron community.

Akron City Series Medical Staff for Varsity Football, Akron, OH 2018 – 2020 As a Pediatric Resident, through the Akron Children’s Sports Medicine Department, I functioned as a team physician for schools within the Akron City Series league. As a team physician, I worked autonomously with team trainers to provide on field evaluation, medical care and make important decisions such as when to transport and allow return to play.

The Arnold Sports Festival Expo Medical Team, Columbus, OH 2016 – 2019 Served as a member of the Arnold Sports Festival Expo Medical Team. As a medical student I served primarily as a scribe. As a resident physician, I was tasked with providing First Aid to injured athletes. Additionally, I assisted with transport of athletes to local medical centers whenever appropriate.

Akron Children’s Hospital Residency Peer Mentor, Akron, OH, 2018 – 2020 Served as a peer mentor to incoming interns in the Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residency class. Duties as peer mentor included advising incoming interns on appropriate rotation choices, how to succeed as a Resident Physician and counseling on how to manage difficult times during residency.

Open M Free Clinic, Akron, OH 2015 – 2017 Volunteered as a member of the Open M team to provide free healthcare services to uninsured citizens throughout Summit County. These services included preventative screenings, acute care visits, chronic disease management, medication assistance and a variety of other programs that these patients would be unable to afford otherwise.

Summa Center for Health Equity, Akron, OH 2014-2015 Helped design and run community outreach programs focused on healthy living such as exercise and cooking classes. Talked one on one with community members in low income areas about the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and how to do so on a budget.

Annual NEOMED Student Health Fair, Rootstown, OH, 2014 – 2017 Performed various free health screening services such as blood glucose, cholesterol and blood pressure screenings on community members.

NEOMED Peer Advisor/Mentor, Rootstown, OH, 2014 – 2017 Served as a role model and leader for the NEOMED Doctor of Medicine Class of 2018. Duties as a Peer Advisor included advising the class of 2018 on their classes as well as their lives out of the classroom. Additionally, I serve as an approachable resource for any questions the underclassmen may have regarding school or medical school life in general.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia, OH, 2003 – Present As a confirmed member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, I have been involved with various fundraising events for the church as well as various charity events for the underprivileged people in the community.
