Each hive is literally a hub of activity! He studied and passed exams in beekeeping. His friend supplied his first bees, to keep in the back garden. He was also intrigued by bees’ crucial role in pollinating crops, and the medicinal properties of honey - something known and used by the Ancient Egyptians. Khuram, a pharmacist by profession, is the Mosque’s safeguarding lead and a member of their educational team. He gave the capacity audience a talk on “The Five Pillars of Islam”: Shahada: declaration of faith in God; Salat: daily prayers; Zakat: giving to charity; Sawm: fasting; Hajj: pilgrimage to Mecca. Khuram explained how these principles, especially prayer, were to be observed as part of daily life. The talk was interesting, informative and well received by the 80 people present. Session members then enjoyed a lunch of soup, sandwiches and home baking, provided by our Catering Committee, with donations to Mary’s Meals: £151 was collected for that charity. The afternoon theme “Conversations in Prayer” was introduced by Dr Barr who invited us to explore our experiences of prayer. Continuing with the theme, the seminar concluded with a Celebration of the Lord’s Supper in the side chapel. Sandra Watson
