  • Pioneer Concierge Celebrates 25 Years
Pioneer concierge celebrates 25 years October 17, 2007 By SANDY THORN CLARK Back in the ‘70s when Olga Pierce was fulfilling the ego-driven requests of celebrities including Pavarotti, Sophia Loren, Rex Harrison, Paul Newman, Robert De Niro, Robert Redford and Patrick Swayze, she didn’t envision turning her skills as a concierge at the now-defunct Whitehall Hotel & Club into a successful business. Now, the founder of Concierge Unlimited International, with offices in the Opera House in the West Loop, is celebrating her 25th year as president of the 50-employee firm that provides independent concierge services in the private, corporate and residential sectors. Fostering unique relationships and performing good deeds are key elements to CUI’s success, says Pierce, enjoying a breakfast of poached eggs and an English muffin in Zest, the second-floor restaurant in the Mag Mile’s Intercontinental Hotel. A pioneer in the concierge industry, Pierce launched her concept - the first in the world - following the 1982 closing of the exclusive, members-only Whitehall. At the insistence of her faithful clients, she continued her role as problem-solver extraordinaire with a private client base that included executives from USG, Storck USA, Standard Oil (now BP America), Donahue & Associates, Frain, Camins & Schwartzchild, John Phipps & Associates, and Smith Barney. Olga Pierce Corporate real estate accounts with Fifield Companies and Bennett & Kahnweiler followed. By 1989, Pierce placed the world’s first corporate concierge at the Time-Life Building, with Time, Life, People and American Hydrotech among the clients. CUI’s corporate client roster has grown to include AT&T, Baker & McKenzie, Boeing, Citicorp, Citadel, Clifford Law Offices, Energy BBDO, General Electric, JF McKinney & Associates, J.P.

ASC Archival Photos – All Captions Draft 8/31/2018 Affair in Trinidad - R. Hayworth (1952).jpg The film noir crime drama Affair in Trinidad (1952) — directed by Vincent Sherman and photographed by Joseph B. Walker, ASC — stars Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford and was promoted as a re-teaming of the stars of the prior hit Gilda (1946). Considered a “comeback” effort following Hayworth’s difficult marriage to Prince Aly Khan, Trinidad was the star's first picture in four years and Columbia Pictures wanted one of their finest cinematographers to shoot it. Here, Walker (on right, wearing fedora) and his crew set a shot on Hayworth over Ford’s shoulder. Dick Tracy – W. Beatty (1990).jpg Directed by and starring Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy (1990) was a faithful ode to the timeless detective comic strip. To that end, Beatty and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, ASC, AIC — seen here setting a shot during production — rendered the film almost entirely in reds, yellows and blues to replicate the look of the comic. Storaro earned an Oscar nomination for his efforts. The two filmmakers had previously collaborated on the period drama Reds and later on the political comedy Bullworth. Cries and Whispers - L. Ullman (1974).jpg Swedish cinematographer Sven Nykvist, ASC operates the camera while executing a dolly shot on actress Liv Ullman, capturing an iconic moment in Cries and Whispers (1974), directed by friend and frequent collaborator Ingmar Bergman. “Motion picture photography doesn't have to look absolutely realistic,” Nykvist told American Cinematographer. “It can be beautiful and realistic at the same time.

Remembered as much for his scandals as his acting, there was another side to Errol: writer, war reporter and even devoted family man. THREE PARAGRAPH SYNOPSIS Tasmanian Devil: The Fast and Furious Life of Errol Flynn Fifty years after his death, people are still fascinated by Errol Flynn. The romantic star of dozens of Hollywood movies, Flynn’s real life was in fact far more adventurous than any of his films. In a life dedicated to the pursuit of pleasure, Flynn became notorious for his love affairs, scandals and rebellious nature. But there was another, much less well known side to his character. He was a fine writer, both of novels and journalism, wrote well reviewed novels and reported from wars and revolutions. Among his scoops was the first interview with the newly victorious Fidel Castro who Flynn tracked down in his mountain hideaway in Cuba. In Tasmanian Devil we discover the unknown Flynn, from his troubled childhood in Tasmania to his death, just fifty years later, in the arms of his teenage lover. We hear from his surviving children, friends and colleagues and discover an amazing life of almost unbelievable events.
