Please CLICK HERE to learn more. Since Veterans Day falls on a Sunday, Monday is recognized as an official national holiday. Liberty Common School is in session Monday, and the U.S. Flag will fly in bold gratitude over both campuses. At the elementary school, students will notice an inspiring bulletin board honoring veterans and active-duty warriors who have connections to Liberty Common School. At the high school, Wednesday’s Character-Education Lyceum will focus intently on patriotism. Above the military-service display in LCHS’s Olympia Hall are found the words “Vincit qui patitur” (he conquers who endures), first penned by ancient Roman scholar Aulus Persius Flaccus. It’s a powerful, and famous phrase that anchors patriotism to the cardinal virtue of fortitude, and succinctly characterizes the courage, valor, and heroism that all Liberty students are taught to appreciate, embrace, and project in conquering their strenuous journey toward the good life. Our hope is to ensure that all 6th- grade parents are well-informed regarding the opportunities, expectations, and philosophy of the junior high. We want to answer your questions and ensure you have all the information you need to help your children to begin their transition to junior high at LCHS. Veterans Day. The annual U.S. commemoration of Veterans Day is November 11th, a day set aside in honor of all veterans who have served in the profession of arms in defense of the Republic. The date and moment correspond to the conclusion of “the war to end war” (WWI) which officially ended at Compiègne, France on “the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.” Liberty Common takes Veterans Day seriously as a function of our patriotic school culture. Ours is an institution whose appreciation of history helps us understand the essential role the warfighter has played in securing peace through the advancement of America’s foundational principle – to respect and protect the rights of the individual. As the solemn holiday falls on Sunday, this year, Veterans Day is officially being observed on Monday, November 12th, 2018. Liberty Common School remains in session on Monday, and all students and faculty will take pause during the school day for reflection, respect, and veneration normally associated with this revered national holiday. Mr. Ken Vetter, LCHS Science Instructor, Dr. Herman Lock, LCHS Engineering, Veteran USAF. Math Instructor, Veteran Royal Dutch Navy Patriotism And The Flag At LCHS. LCHS will observe Veterans Day on Monday, and will accentuate the school’s Capstone Virtue of Patriotism throughout the week. LCHS defines patriotism as, “Devotion and dedication to the country – allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and justice for all.” The junior-high Order System is privileged to be the school’s official steward of the Patriotism Capstone. As a daily expression of this devotion and dedication, the Stars and Stripes Squad, composed of student volunteers, proudly raises and lowers the United States Flag in the front of our school. These words penned by President Calvin Coolidge, who was born on the Fourth of July, concisely express the significance of our Flag: We do honor to the Stars and Stripes as the emblem of our country and the symbol of all that our patriotism means. We identify the Flag with almost everything we hold dear on earth. It represents our peace and security, our civil and political liberty, our freedom of religious worship, our family, our friends, our home. We see it in the great multitude of blessings, of rights and privileges that make up our country. But when we look at our Flag and behold it emblazoned with all our rights, we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties. Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done. A yearly contemplation of our Flag strengthens and purifies the national conscience. Grandparents Day Volunteer Signup. By now, most families have received their invitation to Grandparents Day (GPD) November 20, 2018. There are extra invitations in the front office. However, grandparents do not need an invitation to attend, nor do they need to RSVP. To make this event seamless and extraordinary, a small group of committed parents have been working tirelessly behind the scenes, and we are asking for additional volunteers. Liberty Common School has a unique history that is important for all to know. There were many hardships and roadblocks encountered along the way. The Founders persevered to make our school what it is today, but it wasn't easy. We are fortunate to have had such persistent pioneers with a vision to make one of the best charter schools in Colorado. For the next five weeks, we will run "How Did We Get Here?" by Dr. Maureen Schaffer, Mrs. Michelle Provaznik, Mrs. Laurel Van Maren, and Mr. Bob Schaffer. They do a superb job of detailing the events that took place to develop Liberty Common School as we know it. Our hope is that by sharing our history, we will better value the efforts by our Founders to get where we are today. It is because of their vision and foresight that we have the top elementary and high school in the state of Colorado. We continually thank our founding parents for their hard work and dedication. We could not have asked for a better educational system to educate children. Our hope is that you feel the same.
