Chicago Wolves Game Notes ROCKFORD at CHICAGO FEBRUARY 26, 2019 7 P.M 2018-19 Chicago Wolves Game Notes ROCKFORD AT CHICAGO FEBRUARY 26, 2019 7 p.m. AHLTV 2018-19 HISTORY IN THE MAKING TALE OF THE TAPE In the Chicago Wolves’ 25-year history, the team has hosted 22 homestands of five games or more. If the Wolves can pull off the victory in today’s homestand finale against the Rockford IceHogs, then this REGULAR-SEASON SERIES would mark the second sweep in franchise annals of such a long homestand. 5-3-1-0 Rockford | 4-3-2-0 Chicago In 2002-03, John Anderson’s Wolves posted a five-game sweep March 15-26 by a combined 17-10 score over Philadelphia, Grand Rapids, Rochester, Manitoba and Houston. Heading into today’s game, Rocky Thompson’s crew has won four in a row by a 12-6 margin over Iowa, Texas, Grand Rapids and Texas. That’s not all the Wolves can achieve with a victory tonight. Grand Rapids holds a 70-68 edge in points 26-22-3-6 31-17-5-1 over the Wolves in the Central Division standings, but the Griffins have played two more games. If the Wolves win, they’ll pull even in points but take over first place as they own the tiebreaker (regulation LEADING SCORERS IN SERIES and overtime wins) over Grand Rapids by a 31-27 count. Value of a Draft Pick Analysis of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Steven Cocker Bachelor’s Thesis Degree Programme in Sports & Leisure Management 2018 Author(s) Steven Cocker Degree programme DP 12 Report/thesis title Number of pages and appendix pages Value of a Draft Pick 29 + 2 Analysis of the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection + 97 (research work) In majority of professional sports the draft is a core component in building the framework of success for your organization. Successful drafting equals long-term success as it gives an opportunity to add youth and promise to the depth chart. On the other side, poor drafting or mishandling of draft picks in transactions can lead to many years of a poor product on the field of play. Focusing on ice hockey, there has been prior research projects into the value of the draft and draft picks at the National Hockey League level however the same cannot be said for junior hockey in Canada, specifically the Ontario Hockey League which will be the main area of focus. The objective of the thesis will be to determine value of each individual draft selection in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection in order to fully understand what can be expected with each pick and be better utilized in transaction and on draft day as well as to shed light on the undervaluing of draft picks. Focusing on the drafts between 1996 and 2011, data will be gathered on 4886 players drafted between those dates. From all the data points we have available for use, including games played, goals, assists and points, we will collect this information to find trends in values and similarities between positional players (forwards, defenceman and goalies).
