The News-Sentinel 1958 Thursday, January 2, 1958 Bernice Kesler Bernice KESLER, 59, 228 West Eighth street, died at 12:45 a.m. today at St. Joseph hospital in South Bend where she had been a patient since Sept. 28. She had been an invalid her entire life. Miss Kesler was born April 28, 1899 in the Talma community and moved from a farm in Newcsastle township to Rochester in 1942. She was the daughter of Milton and Linnie Bell FISH KESLER and was a member of the Mentone Baptist church. Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lloyd (Lucile) KESLER, Warsaw; a niece, Mary Marjorie McCOY, Warsaw; a nephew, Robert KESLER, Woodland Hills, Cal., and numerous other relatives. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. Irwin L. OLSON, pastor of the Mentone Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in the Sycamore cemetery in Newcastle township. Friends may call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Friday. George C. Hood Funeral services were held this afternoon in Winamac for George Carl HOOD, 65, who died Tuesday at his home near Kewanna. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Star City. He was born May 6, 1892, in Pulaski county, the son of William and Jane HOOD. Surviving are the wife, Sarah [HOOD]; two daughters, Mrs. Jean SPOOR, Winamac, and Mrs. Ruth DePOY, Culver; three sons, Kenneth [HOOD], Rochester, and Jay and Cecil [HOOD], both at home; a brother, William [HOOD], Winamac, and three sisters, Mrs. Mollie KEY, Star City, Mrs. Ada RICHARDSON, Winamac, and Mrs. Hazel CORTS, Chicago. Arthur Hartman Arthur HARTMAN, 83, died this morning at his home, 530 West Sixth street, where he lived with his son, Russell [HARTMAN]. Mr. Hartman, who was born May 23, 1875, was a brother of Mrs. Estel BEMENDERFER, Rochester; Mrs. Clyde TOWNE, R.R. 5, Rochester; Mrs. Dora JONES, Rochester, and Irvin HARTMAN, R.R. 1, Macy. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The Foster & Good funeral home is in charge. Mina Huggins Mrs. Mina HUGGINS, 93, died here at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bessie McKAY, 509 Elizabeth street, from a heart condition after a two-year illness. Born in Union county, Ind., on June 1, 1864, she was married in 1884 to Alex HUGGINS, who preceded her in death in 1936. Surviving are the daughter; two sons, Kelsey [HUGGINS], Hanna, Ind., and Clayton [HUGGINS], Bourbon; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and twelve great- great-grandchildren. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Apostolic church at Bourbon with the Rev. A. G. SHERER in charge. Burial will be in the Bourbon I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the Biegh funeral home in Bourbon until noon Friday. The body will lie in state at the church an hour before the services. Dr. Lyman K. Gould Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian church in Fort Wayne for Dr. Lyman K. GOULD, 68, a native of Rochester, who died in Fort Wayne Tuesday night. Born and reared in Rochester, the parents were Dr. and Mrs. Charles GOULD. He graduated from Rochester high school in 1911 and held degrees from the University of Chicago and the Universit of Vienna, Austria. Dr. Gould was the founder of the Gould Diagnostic Clinic in Fort Wayne. He leaves his wife; a son, Dr. Charles GOULD, Boston, and a daughter, Mrs. Walter T. JURGENSEN, Fort Wayne. Friday, January 3, 1958 Arthur Hartman Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Foster & Good funeral home for Arthur HARTMAN, 82, who died Thursday morning at the home of his son, Russell [HARTMAN], 530 West Sixth street. The Rev. FRENCH will officiate and burial will be in the Athens cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. Mr. Hartman was born May 23, 1875, the son of Benjamin and Ella MOONSHOWER HARTMAN. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Athens E.U.B. church. He was married first in April, 1910, to Meda KINSEY, who preceded him in death. Later he was married to Martha CARTWRIGHT, who died in 1950. Surviving besides the son, Russell, are three daughters, Mrs. Walter LUDWIG, Plymouth; Mrs. Irene WILLIAMS, Nappanee, and Mrs. Clare CARTWRIGHT, South Bend; two stepsons, Clifford CARTWRIGHT, Niles, Mich., and Jack HARTMAN, South Bend; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Eldora JONES, Rochester; Mrs. Bert MORGAN, Marcellus, Ill.; Mrs. Clyde TOWNE, Rochester, and Mrs. Estel BEMENDERFER, Rochester; four brothers, Vernon [HARTMAN], Grayling, Mich.; Estel [HARTMAN], Tawas, Mich., Clyde [HARTMAN], in California, and Irwin [HARTMAN], Macy. Grover Stingley Grover STINGLEY, 69, who lived in Liberty township near Fullton all his life, suffered a heart attack while in his car today and died at 12:45 p.m. at the home of his sister, Mrs. Gertrude MILLS. The body is at the Ditmire funeral home where rites are pending. Maude Kingery Mrs. Maude KINGERY, 81, died Thusday at 9:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Marie AZBELL, R.R. 1, Peru. Also surviving is another daughter, Mrs. Pauline MUSSELMAN, R.R. 6, Rochester. Born in Pulaski county Feb. 14, 1876, she was the daughter of George and Caroline COFFMAN FLORY. Her marriage was to William R. KINGERY, who preceded her in death. Also surviving are two other daughters, two sons, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great- grandchildren. Rites will be at the Fisher funeral home in Logansport at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with burial in the Mt. Carmel cemetery, Twelve Mile. Saturday, January 4, 1958 James Perry Graham James Perry GRAHAM, 84, died at 11:25 p.m. Friday at his home in Fulton after a month’s illness. He was born Jan. 23, 1873, near Kewanna, the son of Abel and Eliza Jane LITON GRAHAM. A retired farmer, Mr. Graham had moved to Fulton six years ago from Cass county. His marriage was on Jan. 13, 1896, to Minnie THRUSH, who survives. He was a member of the Methodist church, Fulton F. & A.M. Lodge 665. Also surviving are three sons, Frank [GRAHAM], Rochester, Fred [GRAHAM], Akron, and Elmer [GRAHAM], Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Mrs. Wilma (Walter) ASPY, Kokomo; Mrs. Blanche (Clell) SHUPERT, Grand Rapids, Mich; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great- grandchildren. One son, James [GRAHAM], preceded him in death. Funeral rites will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Ditmire funeral home in Fulton with the Rev. William KEITH, assisted by Dr. Claude YOUNG, officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton cemetery, where Masonic rites also will be conducted. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Sunday. Earl W. Frye Earl Wesley FRYE, 73, died at 1:15 a.m. today in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient since Dec. 18. Mr. Frye, who lived at 120 West Third street, had been ill 4 1/2 years, seriously since Thanksgiving Day. Death was due to a heart ailment and dropsy. Born July 4, 1884, in Richland township, he was the son of David and Emma LEFFELL FRYE. He was married Sept. 10, 1904, to Leela Ann BRYANT, who survives. A retired Public Service Company employee, Mr. Frye had spent his entire life in the Rochester community. He was a member of the Rochester Church of God. Surviving, besides the wife, are two sons, Lester [FRYE] and Rev. DeVirl [FRYE], both of Battle Creek, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Mary (Dale) BRILES, R.R. 5, Rochester; eight grandchildren, two of whom made their home with the Fryes; one sister, Mrs. Earl BLY, Visalia, Cal, and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death. Funeral rites will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Zimmerman Brothers funeral home with the Rev. L. E. POWELL officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Elmer Kuhn Elmer KUHN, 88, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday at his home in Akron after a 13-month illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1869, in Kosciusko county, but had spent most of his life in the Akron community. He was the son of Michael and Barbara WIDEMAN KUHN. His marriage was in 1910 to Anna PERRY, who survives. Mr. Kuhn, a retired farmer, was a member of the Akron Church of God. Also surviving are three sons, the Rev. W. Ray [KUHN], Hebron; Willard [KUHN], Burket, and Harvey [KUHN], LaPorte; four daughters, Mrs. Maureen YOUNG, Butler, Ind.; Mrs. Barbara MOYER, R.R. 2, Macy; Mrs. Evelyn KREIG, Etna Green, and Mrs. Peggy KERLIN, Silver Lake; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Dora SHRIEMAN, Macy. Funeral rites will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Akron Church of God, with the Rev. Floyd HEDGES of Columbia City officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harold CONRAD. Burial will be in the Silver Creek cemetery east of Akron. Friends may call at the Moyer-Haupert funeral home in Akron after 7 p.m. today until noon Monday and from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the church. James Roe Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Kennedy funeral home in Winamac for James Q. ROE, 75, who died Thursday night at Woodlawn hospital here after a long illness.
