Ant Trails: a Key to Management with Baits1
ENY-259 Ant Trails: A Key to Management with Baits1 John Klotz, Dave Williams, Byron Reid, Karen Vail, and Phil Koehler2 Communication in the ants is based on chemical straight back to the nest (Figure 1). In turn, each ant will reinforce the odor trail which is named after its discoverer, Dufour, and is until the food is gone. This behavior is a highly laid down by the stinger. Rainfall and Parasitic Wasp (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea
Agricultural and Forest Entomology (2000) 2, 39±47 Rainfall and parasitic wasp (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonoidea) activity in successional forest stages at Barro Colorado Nature Monument, Panama, and La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica B. A. Shapiro1 and J. Pickering Institute of Ecology, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602-2602, U.S.A. Abstract 1 In 1997, we ran two Malaise insect traps in each of four stands of wet forest in Costa Rica (two old-growth and two 20-year-old stands) and four stands of moist forest in Panama (old-growth, 20, 40 and 120-year-old stands). 2 Wet forest traps caught 2.32 times as many ichneumonoids as moist forest traps. The average catch per old-growth trap was 1.89 times greater than the average catch per second-growth trap. 3 Parasitoids of lepidopteran larvae were caught in higher proportions in the wet forest, while pupal parasitoids were relatively more active in the moist forest. 4 We hypothesize that moisture availability is of key importance in determining parasitoid activity, community composition and trophic interactions. Frank (William H. Macy) sees financial opportunity in campaigning and gives voice to the underrepresented South Side working man. Fiona (Rossum) tries to build on her success with her apartment building and takes an expensive gamble hoping to catapult herself into the upper echelon. Ian (Cameron Monaghan) faces the consequences of his crimes as the Gay Jesus movement takes a destructive turn. Debbie (Emma Kenney) fights for equal pay and combats harassment; and her efforts lead her to an unexpected realization. Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) sets his sights on West Point and prepares himself for cadet life. Liam (Christian Isaiah) must develop a new skillset to survive outside of his cushy private school walls. Kevin (Steve Howey) and V (Shanola Hampton) juggle the demands of raising the twins with running the Alibi as they attempt to transform the bar into a socially conscious business. Shameless will premiere September 9 at 9 p.m. Immediately afterward at 10 p.m., Showtime will debut new half-hour comedy series Kidding starring Jim Carrey in his first series regular role in more than two decades, and reuniting him with director Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). -

Argentine Ant, Liniepithema Humile Mayr (Hymenoptera: Formicidae)
FDACS-P-01684 Pest Alert created 20-April-2009 Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry Charles H. Bronson, Commissioner of Agriculture Argentine Ant, Liniepithema humile Mayr (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) David Westervelt, [email protected], Apiary Inspector and Researcher, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry Eric T. Jameson, [email protected], Apiary Inspector, Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Plant Industry INTRODUCTION: The Argentine ant, Linepithema humile (Mayr) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), was introduced into Louisiana in 1890 on coffee ships from Brazil. It has since spread to most of the southern United States where it has become a nuisance pest in the urban environment. It can and does disrupt ecosystems by directly displacing other ant species and other insects. Argentine ants utilize a wide variety of food sources that include protein (live or dead insects) and substances rich in sugars such as honeydew secretions from aphids. Foraging worker ants will also search for food indoors. Argentine ants form large colonies that can include numerous nesting sites that can cover a large area. The Argentine ant can be a serious pest of commercial honey bee hives. This ant challenges the front entrance of the bee hive causing the European honey bee (EHB), Apis mellifera Linnaeus, to guard it. The ants then invade the colony in large numbers through the top or other unguarded openings in the hive (Fig. 1), causing the EHB to abscond, abandoning the honey and brood for the ants to take back to their nest. -
Movie Review: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’
Movie Review: ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ NEW YORK — There’s plenty of humor and action in the fast-paced sci-fi adventure “Ant-Man and the Wasp” (Disney). What’s noticeably lacking is any exposition or guidance for those not already familiar with the characters and their relationships from 2015’s “Ant-Man” and 2016’s “Captain America: Civil War.” While the film can still be enjoyed on its own, newcomers will feel somewhat left out as a result. One example of the potential confusion awaiting novices is the fact that, when we first encounter him, Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd, who also co-wrote the script) is approaching the end of a two-year sentence of house arrest. That’s the consequence, we learn, at least by implication, of his activities in the latter of the two previous movies. But specifics on what exactly he did are not shared. Whatever his wrongdoing, Scott — whose alter ego, thanks to a high-tech suit, can shrink or grow at will — is now anxious to focus on serving his time and raising his young daughter, Cassie (Abby Ryder Fortson). Scott’s good resolutions are undermined, however, when his predecessor as Ant- Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Pym’s daughter, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), aka the Wasp, draw him into their quest to rescue Hope’s mother, Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), the original Wasp. Janet been stuck for decades in the Quantum Realm, a kind of subatomic limbo. To retrieve her, the trio will have to do battle with two principal enemies: Sonny Burch (Walton Goggins), a petty gangster out to profit from Pym’s technological breakthroughs, and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), a victim of Pym’s past misdeeds. -

While it is obvious. that these comic books can be used in the classroom as a source of reading material, it is tot so obvious that these comic books, with great economy, simplicity, and narrative density, can be used to further introduce novice readers to the techniques found in narrative and to the terms employed in the study and discussion of a narrative. The output of the Marvel Conics Group in particular is literate, is both narratively and pbSlosophically sophisticated, and is ethically and morally responsible. Some of the narrative tecbntques found in the stories, such as the Spider-Man episodes, include foreshadowing, a dramatic fiction narrator, flashback, irony, symbolism, metaphor, Biblical and historical allusions, and mythological allusions.4MKM1 4 4 *********************************************************************** * Reproductions supplied by EDRS are the best that can be made * * from the original document. * *********************************************************************** ) U SOEPANTMENTO, HEALD.. Abstract Established in 2008 with the release of Iron Man, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become a ubiquitous transmedia sensation. Its uniquely interwoven narrative provides auspicious grounds for scholarly consideration. The franchise conscientiously presents larger-than-life superheroes as complex and incredibly emotional individuals who form profound interpersonal relationships with one another. This thesis explores Sarah Hagelin’s concept of resistant vulnerability, which she defines as a “shared human experience,” as it manifests in the substantial relationships that Steve Rogers (Captain America) cultivates throughout the Captain America narrative (11). This project focuses on Steve’s relationships with the following characters: Agent Peggy Carter, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), and Bucky Barnes (The Winter Soldier).
