5 II. TINJAUAN PUSTAKA A. Kedudukan Taksonomi Cypraea Moneta, Terkenal Pula Dengan Sebutan Money Cowrie, Merupakan Jenis Cypraea II. Cangkang Cowry. a, apertur; b, basal; l, labrum; dl, dorsal line (A guide to worldwide cowries, Lorenz, 2000, p: 6). Warna seragam tanpa bintik-bintik / bercak-bercak (Dharma, 1988; Lorenz, 2000). Gambar 2. Anatomi Cowri (A Guide to Worldwides Cowries, Lorenz, 2000, p:13) C.1. 11 12 Gambar 4. Papila kelas ke-1. a-d, papila berbentuk kutil (Lorenz, 2000, p: 7) Papilla kelas 2 berbentuk seperti jari dan sederhana. Gambar 5. 12 13 Gambar 6. Papila kelas ke-3. a-f, papila bercabang (Lorenz, 2000, p: 9) Papilla kelas 4 terdapat pada Subfamili erosarinae. Subfamili Erosarinae terdiri dari genera dimana spesies memiliki banyak

  • Towards a Panbiogeography of the Seas
Biological Journal of the Linnean Society, 2005, 84, 675-723. Towards a panbiogeography of the seas MICHAEL HEADS* Biology Department, University of the South Pacific, PO Box 1168, Suva, Fiji Islands Received 6 October 2003; accepted for publication 28 June 2004 A contrast is drawn between the concept of spéciation favoured in the Darwin-Wallace biogeographic paradigm (founder dispersal from a centre of origin) and in panbiogeography (vicariance or allopatry). Ordinary ecological dis persal is distinguished from founder dispersal. A survey of recent literature indicates that ideas on many aspects of marine biology are converging on a panbiogeographic view. Panbiogeographic conclusions supported in recent work include the following observations: fossils give minimum ages for groups and most taxa are considerably older than their earliest known fossil; Pacific/Atlantic divergence calibrations based on the rise of the Isthmus of Panama at 3 Ma are flawed; for these two reasons most molecular clock calibrations for marine groups are also flawed; the means of dispersal of taxa do not correlate with their actual distributions; populations of marine species may be closed systems because of self-recruitment; most marine taxa show at least some degree of vicariant differentiation and vicariance is surprisingly common among what were previously assumed to be uniform, widespread taxa; man grove and seagrass biogeography and migration patterns in marine taxa are best explained by vicariance; the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean represent major

Biodiversity of gastropoda in the coastal waters of Ambon Island, Indonesia Dominggus Rumahlatu, Fredy Leiwakabessy Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Science, Pattimura University, Ambon, Indonesia. Corresponding author: D. Rumahlatu, [email protected] Abstract. Gastropods belonging to the mollusk phylum are widespread in various ecosystems. Ecologically, the spread of gastropoda is influenced by environmental factors, such as temperature, salinity, pH and dissolved oxygen. This research was conducted to determine the correlation between the factors of physico-chemical environment and the diversity of gastropoda in coastal water of Ambon Island, Indonesia. This research was conducted at two research stations, namely Station 1 at Ujung Tanjung Latuhalat Beach and Station 2 at coastal water of Waitatiri Passo. The results of a survey revealed that the average temperature on station 1 was 31.14°C while the average temperature of ° station 2 was 29.90 C. The average salinity at Station 1 was 32.02%o whereas the salinity average at Station 2 was 30.31%o. The average pH in station 1 and 2 was 7.03, while the dissolved oxygen at station 1 was 7.68 ppm which was not far different from that in station 2 with the dissolved oxygen of 7.63 ppm. The total number of species found in both research stations was 65 species, with the types of gastropoda were found scattered in 48 genera, 19 families and 7 orders. The most commonly found gastropods were from the genus of Nerita and Conus. 40 species were found in station 1 and 40 species were found in station 2.

Brown Isle Royale National Park, Houghton, MI 49931 Abstract—Collected for food for over 3,000 years by the indigenous Samoan people, marine gastropods in American Samoa have never been collected and cataloged for science. This study documents 385 marine gastropods from 50 families occurring in the U.S. territory of American Samoa. Ten of these are listed by genus only and one by family. The num- ber of gastropods currently reported is likely significantly underestimated and a conservative estimate of the richness yet to be discovered. Introduction Molluscs have been collected in Samoa since the earliest inhabitants arrived some 3,000 years ago (Craig et al 2008, Kramer 1994, Kirch and Hunt, 1993, Nagaoka 1993). Much of this reef gleaning was directed at the cephalopods, the large and colorful giant clams (Tridacna spp.) and the larger marine snails such as Trochus spp, Lambis spp., Cassis spp., Turbo spp., and Tutufa spp., although any marine mollusc was likely taken if found (Munro 1999). While the limited archeological evidence provides an initial species list, this long history of the use of marine molluscs provided a very limited understanding of the marine gastro- SRGVRIWKHDUFKLSHODJR(YHQDIWHU(XURSHDQFRQWDFWIHZVHULRXVRUDPDWHXUVKHOO collectors made the long voyage to the S. Pacific to catalog the gastropoda. Until very recently, and before the advent of SCUBA, much of the gastropod knowledge in the area came from the shallow depths available to free-divers, what could be dredged off the bottom, and what washed onto the shore. The first organized sci- entific investigations into the Samoan gastropods weren’t carried out until the 18th century by the La Perouse expedition.

Paraules clau.—Cypraeidae, Taxonomia molecular, DNA mitocondrial, subfamílies, Cribrarula.
