Waterman Waterman pens normally use the long Waterman cartridges. The fountains pens of the Audace collection also accept the standard, international cartridges. The Waterman Ici et La and Lady collections can only use the standard international cartridges.

Ballpoint refills

Do I need a rollerball or ballpoint refill? An important question, because not only the ink is different, but most of the times a rollerball refill won't fit a ballpoint pen and vice versa. To start with the ink: rollerball ink is liquid, where ballpoint ink is somewhat waxy and you have to push to get the ballpoint ink onto the paper.

Often, the easiest way to determine whether you need a ballpoint refill of rollerball refill is by answering the following question: ­ Does the pen have a twist/turn mechanism or a click mechanism? If the answer is yes, you probably are holding a ballpoint pen. Please note there are exceptions to this rule: some rollers also have a twist action mechanism.

How to choose the correct refill for your ballpoint? Most ballpoint pens use the standard "Parker" refill. This does not mean that you have to use a refill made by Parker, but this is only a commonly accepted term for this standard size. Some examples of this international standard can be found below:

As you can see, these refills have the same size and appearance: these refills can be used in all ballpoint pens, which use this international standard. In short, you can use a Graf von Faber­Castell refill in your Parker pen, et cetera.

Schmidt produces standard refills for many brands around the world. When your refill looks exactly the same as above with the same measurements, but only the brand name is different, then you are probably using a Schmidt refill.
