A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FEATURE PRESENTATION • GI PREAKNESS S. He may have been 33-1 for the G1 English 2000 Guineas, but without Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), Dubawi Gold (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) likely would have been an impressive winner of that Newmarket Classic. With that goliath heading elsewhere, Andrew Tinkler's bay bids to take full advantage in a weak-looking renewal of the G1 Abu Dhabi Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh. Having finished out the back GOOD TO BE THE KING in three tries in pattern While 11 of the 14 sophomores entered for today=s company for Michael Dods at GI Preakness S. at Old Hilltop have shipped in from two, he returned for the Kentucky (8) and New York (3), Team Valor Richard Hannon stable with International=s Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux {Brz}) two wins on the Polytrack in Dubawi Gold racingbetter.co.uk has been basking in the afterglow of his victory in the Lingfield=s Listed Spring Cup GI Kentucky Derby in the comparatively serene Mar. 26 and Listed International Trial S. When you go to Ireland, you never know what eighth horse since 1997 sort of pace you are going to get, but Hughesie got off to score the first two legs at Newmarket and said, >Without Frankel we would of the Triple Crown. have come home alone,= so if he can reproduce that While the Run for the form he=ll be hard to beat.@ Cont. p6 Roses exacts a toll on its participants, don=t try to tell that to the seven previous Derby winners to double up in the Preakness. Only two of those horses (Silver Charm and War Emblem) scored by less than a length, while the average Animal Kingdom margin of victory is nearly EquiSport 4 1/2 lengths. Trainer Graham Motion has taken his Derby success in stride and enters today=s race full of confidence, though he will leave handicapping to the punters. AI just couldn=t be happier with how he=s doing,@ Motion said. AI can=t dictate the pace and I really can=t predict if he=s going to bounce, but he=s giving me no indication of any of those things happening. I think sometimes when a horse bounces you don=t get any indication. I think it=s pretty hard to boldly say he=s not going to, but he hasn=t given me any indication that he=s not doing as well or better than he was going into the Derby.@ Preakness cont. p2 TDN P HEADLINE NEWS •5/21/11 • PAGE 2 • thoroughbreddailynews.com Preakness S. cont. Mulligan for Dialed In?... The back markers in the Derby were set a near- impossible task when Shackleford (Forestry) reached the half-mile pole in a pedestrian 1:13.40. Dialed In (Mineshaft) was dead last after getting pinched back at the break, and his eighth-place finish as the 5-1 favorite is one of the most up- gradeable of the Derby participants. He=ll look to give Nick Zito his second Preakness (Louis Quatorze, 1996). It=ll be business as usual for the colt the conditioner calls >the best 3-year- old= as far as his running style is concerned. • My Drift Title: Triple Crown Written By: Jerry D
My Drift Title: Triple Crown Written by: Jerry D. Petersen Date: 20 May 2017 Article Number: 259-2017-15 The Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Horse Racing, better known as the Triple Crown, is a title awarded to a three-year-old thoroughbred horse who wins the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, and Belmont Stakes. The three races were inaugurated in different years, the last being the Kentucky Derby in 1875. These races are now run annually in May and early June of each year. The Triple Crown Trophy, commissioned in 1950 but awarded to all previous winners as well as those after 1950, is awarded to a Triple Crown winner. The Triple Crown Trophy Churchill Downs thoroughbred racetrack is located on Central Avenue in south Louisville, Kentucky. It is most famous for hosting the Kentucky Derby annually (on the first Saturday of May). This race is nicknamed, “The Run for the Roses.” The track is named for John and Henry Churchill who provided the land. It officially opened in 1875 and held the first Kentucky Derby and the first Kentucky Oaks in the same year. Churchill Downs has also hosted the renowned Breeders' Cup on eight occasions, most recently in 2011. Churchill Downs Front Inside Churchill Downs The Kentucky Derby Pimlico Race Course is a thoroughbred horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed "Old Hilltop" after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts.
