Brand Brock Lesnar doesn't "give a shit" about this review, neither anyone else's. It's repetitive and, really, kind of boring. I never thought of myself as a football player, even when I was exploding through the defensive line. The lesson I learned from this book was that no matter how hard it is to get what you want you can reach it if you want it bad enough. A few years out of date now, but this is a quick read and gives an over view of Brock's upbringing, college and professional endeavors. Ergodebooks Richmond, TX, U. What struck me the best about the book was how if he really wanted something he got it no matter how hard it was he got it. Then he quit. After reading this book, I respect him immensely and see him in a different light. Who is the authour? However, I heard a few things about him, and decided I give this a look to see what was fact and what his thoughts were on a great many things. In some instances, his decision making skills can be rivaled by that of a bag of Cheetos i. Well the book hasn't aged well as the poor dairy farmer from Dakota has since been exposed as a mixed martial artist and is back wrestling in the WWE as a lifer. When I went back to high school for my senior year, I was in great shape, and I had one more year on the football team with my friends. People get in Brock's way. If I won a trophy, he would say good job. I was born with the talent and the athleticism —those were God-given gifts. I'm sure Heath Herring doesn't like me, either Some interesting nuggets, but the overall impression is that Brock is full of it. Other Editions 5. From the book's point of view, Mya was delivered by a stork that decided that Brock Lesnar needed a baby. As it is, it is still a good book that everyone should give a day to read. See 2 questions about Death Clutch…. In my heart, though, I was a wrestler. Believe me when I tell you this, Dave Meltzer, professional wrestling's leading journalist [YES, there is such a thing] writes obituaries longer than this book. I've bought every single one of his fights on pay per view, from his debut to his retirement, and even attended his loss to Cain Velasquez live. Despite the fact that he doesn't look back at his years as a professional wrestler fondly, he doesn't get bogged down in mud-slinging and trash talking. The outcome was up to me, and me alone. He spoke to the fact that most guys spend their lives stuck in the business, never really branching out and escaping the vicious road schedule and often horrendous lifestyle. Book Description Hardcover. During guard training, we had to run every morning, which helped me nail a two-mile run in Trivia About Death Clutch: My The one in control. This book is basically the only information he's willing to share, to anyone, about his life and all the crap he went through to get where he is today. But my mom and dad let me start wrestling when I was only five years old. But honestly, he's a meathead, what do you expect from someone who takes a beating to their body every day for money With so much he said-she said going around, I have a better understanding of how he acts and why. Here I was, seventeen years old, on my way to Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. However, after reading about his desire to be more of a family man in spending as much time as possible with his wife and children, you have to hand it to him getting out when he did. The rest of the book surprisingly makes up for this lack of coverage of a significant time in his life. I guarantee you I was the last guy to go through puberty in my class. Because the big schools were not recruiting me, and because I really wanted to continue wrestling, I started my college career at Bismarck State in North Dakota, a junior college. The entire world knows how he was billed as "The Next Big Thing" and quickly became the youngest and quickest to win the WWE championship in history. His life was full of road blocks. There won't be any literature awards, but Brock is pretty good at giving brutal honesty. Goodreads helps you keep track of books you want to read. For countless fans of professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, Brock Lesnar has long been known for his freakish athleticism, mind-blowing speed, and meteoric rise to the top. If u looking for something particular then you might be disappointed. This is a refreshing glimpse of his life from his perspective. From training to be a real fighter, to immediately being thrown into the Octagon against the UFC's best heavyweights, to the psychology behind his legendary trash-talking, Brock opens up about what it takes not only to succeed in the world's fastest-growing sport but to become the Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World. Even in his lengthily legal battles with Vince McMahon, he still gives the man credit for being a successful businessman. She wanted me to make the most of my natural instincts. I was a string bean. As a young kid, I certainly was no heavyweight. He speaks well of the guys he enjoyed working with and very little about those he dislikes. He also reiterates in both these few pages and in his recent ESPN interviews that Brock Lesnar is all about one thing: business. He is relentless in the book. Death Clutch: My Story of Determination, Domination, and Survival Reviews But that struggle became a huge positive for me: when I had to wrestle as a pounder, or a pounder, I developed the moves and quickness of a lighter-weight wrestler. However, after reading about his desire to be more of a family man in spending as much time as possible with his wife and children, you have to hand it to him getting out when he did. The fact that Lesnar was open on subjects that I was surprised for him to share on is why I am sort-of okay in Brock practically passing over his initial WWE run from entirely in this book. The guy who feels good because he wins, or the guy who feels like you do now because he lost? This book casts a very bright light on the shadow that is Brock Lesnar. Lesnar wrote this book near the end of his time with the UFC. I am thoroughly convinced that had he not struck stardom and remained a poor dairy farmer from South Dakota, he would have been just as big of an all-around jerkass.

Sam Ford World Wrestling Entertainment in Japanese Culture in the 21st Century Introduction Approximately 16,000 pro wrestling fans were jammed into the Yokohama Arena on 01 March 2002, paying $1.1 million to see the first show by American international sports entertainment property World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), formerly a regional promotion in the Northeast that launched a national media phenomenon in the 1980s when it paired with the growing strength of cable and pay-per-view television and remains based in Stamford, Connecticut, creating the first most successful wrestling touring group and television program on a national level. Shane McMahon, who along with sister Stephanie is heir to the McMahon family wrestling empire controlled by their father, Vince McMahon, was scheduled to come out early in the show, in front of the capacity crowd. His family company had not been to Japan for a show since the mid-1990s, when they only drew 4,500 fans in the same building, and fans hated parts of the show so much they chanted “refund.” Something had changed by 2002, though, and WWE was the place to be for thousands of people in Tokyo. McMahon entered the ring, accompanied by translator Wally Yamaguchi—a figure Japanese pro wrestling fans might know as a referee for Japanese wrestling organization All- Japan. As McMahon began to speak to the crowd through Yamaguchi, the duo was met with a loud series of boos. According to journalist Dave Meltzer, “The crowd, particularly the ringsiders, were furious. They wanted WWF, not WWF translated into Japanese.”1 Shane 1 Meltzer, Dave.
