Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort and Spa, located at 2424 Kalakaua Avenue, announces that the popular Lokahi package, which donates money to nonprofits, now includes donations for emergency relief aide in Japan. The package includes daily breakfast buffet for two, 10% discount on Na Ho’ola Spa treatments, and a $30 donation per stay to the statewide fundraising initiative Aloha for Japan. The offer is valid for Lokahi rooms booked from April 1 through June 30, 2011 for travel dates April 1 through December 27, 2011. Rates start at $249 per night with a three-night minimum.

“The Aloha for Japan campaign donates money directly to agencies who have been serving disaster-affected regions since the first moments of the earthquake and resulting tsunami in Japan. Hawaiian Airlines Reaffirms Commitment to Japan

No schedule reductions to Tokyo, Osaka service to commence as planned in July

Prompted by the announcements of other carriers’ intentions to reduce service to Japan, Hawaiian Airlines today reaffirmed its commitment to Japan and its broader plan of expansion in Asia.

President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Dunkerley said, “The earthquake and the tsunami which hit Japan on March 11 devastated the littoral communities in North Eastern Japan. All of us at Hawaiian send our deepest sympathy to those who have lost loved ones and who themselves face an uncertain future as the process of rebuilding gets underway. As a company, and as citizens of an ocean side community with close ties to Japan, we have a special connection to those in need in Japan and we are engaged in a broad array of efforts aimed at supporting them as they rebuild their lives. We wish we could do more.”

“While other airlines have announced service reductions to Japan, we have no plans to reduce our daily service to Tokyo, and we remain committed to launching new service to Osaka beginning July 12. It is clear from our current results that we are seeing a significantly less severe downturn in traffic than is being reported by other companies in the airline and tourism sectors. At the same time, discussions with our travel partners in Japan indicate that while a downturn is currently upon us, they expect a recovery in bookings after a short interval.”

Dunkerley and other members of Hawaiian’s management team visited Japan early last week and had the opportunity to gauge the impact of the earthquake, tsunami and Fukushima power plant developments on outbound travel from Japan. “The purposeful and business-like approach of Japan to recovering from these events is an example to us all. One cannot fail to be impressed by how quickly daily activity has returned to near normality in Tokyo and Osaka. It is clearly the case that those of us watching developments in Japan from afar have little appreciation for what is actually happening in these cities that are some distance away from where devastation has occurred.”

Dunkerley observed that Hawaiian’s Tokyo service serves primarily Japan-originating travelers who appear to be more inclined to keep their travel plans than are non-Japanese residents who had planned travel to Japan.

“In the initial period following the earthquake, we saw a number of cancellations and no-shows but this activity has largely dissipated. Looking ahead, we are seeing a slowdown in forward bookings for the next two months. Current indications suggest a slightly less than 20 percentage point decline in bookings over the next month compared to what we would have expected during this period. Given the role of tour companies as intermediaries in the Japan market, we don’t have a great deal of visibility beyond this period. However, our travel partners in Japan believe that, barring conditions worsening, a recovery in the Japan market could begin in May.

“Our experience in Tokyo before the earthquake surpassed our expectations by a substantial margin and led us to accelerate our plans to commence services to Osaka. We remain profoundly confident about our long term expectations for Hawaiian’s role in the Japan-Hawaii travel market and enthusiastic about our existing and planned services,” Dunkerley said.

Get Your “Grove” On with Twilight Jazz at Helumoa

Part of Royal Hawaiian Center’s Kokua Japan Efforts

Waikiki – Royal Hawaiian Center is throwing another concert party – this time with blues, bebop, vamp and all that Jazz in its efforts to support the Japanese American Society of Hawaii (JASH). The concert is free and open to the public, but donations would be greatly appreciated. Also on this night, participating merchants will be donating a portion of their sales to JASH. For continuously updated information, please visit our website at www.RoyalHawaiianCenter.com.

Twilight Jazz at Helumoa, a jazzy variation of the Center's evening concert series, will bring together an array of performers in The Royal Grove with a free concert for toe-tapping kamaaina and malihini. From Honolulu crooners to award-winning player's from Hawaii Island, the following lineup for Twilight Jazz at Helumoa is free to the public:

Honokaa Jazz Band – Youthful talent abounds on the Big Island with the pride and joy of Honokaa High – the Honokaa Jazz Band. Recipients of the prestigious 2011 Grammy Signature Schools Enterprise Award, the Honokaa Jazz Band's director, Gary Washburn, is credited with grooming and refining performance skills bringing out the very best in his students. In recognition of that excellence, Washburn recently garnered a Claes Nobel award from the National Society of High School Scholars.

Paul Shimamoto – Multi Na Hoku Hanohano nominee for his debut release, "All That Hawaiian Jazz," Paul Shimamoto is a talented musician who excels in jazz, pop, Hawaiian and hapa-haole music. With a smooth vocal style, this Hawaiian crooner has been dubbed the island version of such jazz greats as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. Paul and friends will bring their jazz vibe to the Grove with island-style flair.

Kekauoha The Jazz Project – This young combo is making a splash throughout Honolulu and points beyond with their homegrown brand of Hawaiian Jazz. Led by Halehaku Seabury, the Project includes Ioane Burns on bass, Kapono Nailiili on drums, and keyboard whizz Ikaika Tecson. Credited with raising a few eyebrows, particularly those of Hawaiian traditionalists, the Project reinvents Hawaiian standards like "Ke Aloha" and "Hiilawe" by adding chords, progressions, tempos and harmonics that are Buddy Fo-like. Members have traditional Hawaiian and olelo (language) roots, but have a lot of fun "bebopping" older hula tunes and other Hawaiian favorites.

Twilight Jazz at Helumoa will open at 6 p.m. with Royal Hawaiian Center's Saturday series, Hula Kahiko at Helumoa. This month's featured traditional hula school is Hālau Hula O Maiki named for the legendary hula master Maiki Aiu Lake, and now led by her daughter, Coline Kaualoku Aiu. These weekly performances of traditional hula in The Royal Grove are designed to honor the land and our ancestors while providing glimpses into Hawaiian dance and chant traditions rarely seen by malihini.

The Center is open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. For more information about Royal Hawaiian Center’s shopping and dining options, call Lei Ohu Guest Services at (808) 922-2299 or visit www.RoyalHawaiianCenter.com.

The flagship POPITS store enjoys a prime street front location at Waikiki Beach Walk®, and joins some of the world's foremost fashion brands available in Waikiki, such as Gucci, Chanel, and Tiffany. With Paik on guitar and Hannahs on bass, this talented pair features mostly original traditional style Hawaiian songs. They recently released their first CD, “Pili o ke Ao,” which hit stores last November. Kupaoa, which means to be a strong, lingering fragrance of sound, offers fresh traditional Hawaiian songs.

Valet parking for up to four hours is available for $6.00 at the Embassy Suites- Waikiki Beach Walk (201 Beachwalk) and the Wyndham Vacation Ownership-Waikiki Beach Walk (227 Lewers Street), with any same-day purchase from any Waikiki Beach Walk merchant.
