KINGS STORYLINES: Star Power Drew Doughty and Jeff Carter were both named to the All-Star game in Los Angeles. They represented the Pacific Division All-Stars in a 3-on-3 tournament with the other divisions. This was Doughty’s third consecutive all-star game nomination and this is Carter’s second nomination, first with the Kings (nominated in 2009 when he was with the Flyers). The pair helped lead the Pacific Division to the final for the second year in a row, falling to the Metropolitan Division 4-3. In the first game, the Pacific crushed the Central Division 10-3. Carter (1-3=4) and Doughty (1-3=4) each tied for the team lead in points over the two games.

Bringing the Body The Kings lead the league in hits with 1,498, 123 hits ahead of the second place Ducks.

Carter Leading the Way Jeff Carter currently leads the Kings in goals and points (24-20=44; tied for second in the league in goals). His eight game-winning goals lead the league and is one shy of tying the Kings all-time record for most in a single season.

‘Kings’ of Overtime Since the introduction of 3-on-3 overtime at the start of the 2015-16 season, the Kings hold a league-best 21-4 record in the extra frame. The charts below show the league rankings in wins a winning percentage in overtime.

Overtime Wins Overtime Winning Percentage

Rank Team GP Wins Rank Team GP Win %

Los Angeles Los Angeles 1 25 21 1 25 84.0% Kings Kings

Philadelphia San Jose 3 21 14 3 15 66.7% Flyers Sharks

Budaj Backstopping the Kings Peter Budaj has won 23 games thus far this season, tied for seventh in the league. His last season with 23-or-more wins came in 2006- 07 with the Colorado Avalanche (31-16-6 in 57 GP). That year he set career-highs in wins and games played. Other than Jonathan Quick, he is the first Kings goalie to reach the 20-win plateau since Mathieu Garon won 31 in 2005-06. He currently ranks fourth in GAA (2.06) and is tied for second in the league with five (career high for a single season). Budaj played in 23 consecutive games from Oct. 18 through Dec. 4, the longest stretch of consecutive games played in his career.

MacKinnon, who was making his first career All-Star Game appearance, was held off the scoresheet in the Central Division's 10-3 loss to the Pacific Division. The 21-year-old center leads the Avalanche in scoring with 33 points (11g/22a) in 47 games. He also ranks first on the squad in assists, game-winning goals (4), short-handed tallies (2) and shots (162).

HOW YOU 'DRAW' IT UP Colorado ranks second in the league in faceoff percentage at 53.2%, trailing only Anaheim (55.1). Nathan MacKinnon has won 59.6% on home ice (266-180). • Colorado won a season-high 48 faceoffs (48-26) on Jan. 6 vs. NY Islanders, the club's most wins since Jan. 18, 2001 (50 vs. Vancouver). • The Avs won 73.6% of their faceoffs on Dec. 1 vs. Columbus, the second-highest percentage in team history (since the league began tracking in 1999-00). The club record is 74.1% on Dec. 23, 2011 vs. Tampa Bay.

LOVE ME TWO TIMES Matt Duchene has recorded five multi-goal games this season, the most by an Avalanche player since 2010-11, when Duchene and David Jones both had five. Matt's career high is six multi-goal games set as a rookie in 2009-10. Duchene's five multi-goal games this season are tied for second in the NHL behind only Brad Marchand (6). Cam Atkinson, Jeff Carter, Sidney Crosby and Michael Grabner also have five.

EXTRA EFFORT Colorado is 5-2 when playing beyond 60 minutes this season, 5-1 in overtime and 0-1 in shootouts. Nathan MacKinnon has two overtime winners this year, one short of the single-season franchise record set by David Jones in 2010-11 and equaled by Tyson Barrie in 2013-14.

AHL ALL-STARS A.J. Greer and Spencer Martin were selected to the Pacific Division roster for the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic, which was held this past weekend in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Martin did not participate in the contest as he had joined the Avalanche. Greer ranks second on the San Antonio Rampage with 32 points (13g/19a) in 42 games, which ties him for fourth among all AHL rookies. Martin has appeared in 28 games for the Rampage, posting a 15-10-2 record with a 2.72 GAA and .912 Sv%.

IRONMEN Carl Soderberg has the longest current ironman streak on the team at 216 games, followed by Jarome Iginla at 211. Iginla has dressed in all 82 contests in each of his two years with the Avalanche and in 11 seasons overall, the most 82-game campaigns in NHL history.

STRONG IN SHOOTOUTS The Avs have played only one shootout, tied with Dallas for the fewest in the NHL. Colorado's loss on Nov. 26th snapped a streak of nine straight shootout wins. The Avs finished 4-0 in shootouts last season, the league’s only unbeaten team, and also led all clubs with 10 wins in 2014-15 (10-4). As a team, the Avs own the highest shooting percentage all-time (39.3) and fourth-most wins (67-36).
