It is important to remind ourselves about the hard work and dedication of the Crime Stoppers family – its partners, administrators and volunteers who play a vital role in making life better for families in Nova Scotia. The Department of Justice supports your efforts. Fighting crime is a shared responsibility and we applaud all of those involved in this effort. As a retired police officer with more than 35 years of experience in municipal and RCMP policing, I know this first-hand. Government, businesses, police agencies, special interest groups, and the public - we all have a role to play. Once more, I want to thank you for your efforts. You are doing a great service for your community and you are helping to build a province that is safer and better for Nova Scotians. On behalf of Premier Darrell Dexter and the Government of Nova Scotia, I wish you continued success for the next quarter century. Valued over $35 4 14th Annual Awareness Guide www.crimestoppers.ns.ca John O’Reilly It is a profound honour and privilege to extend my sincerest thanks for the support shown to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers again this year. Our private, corporate, police and media partners’ support is without doubt a big reason for our many successes. But a special thank you has to go to our tireless volunteers who continue to promote Crime Stoppers as an alternative of reporting criminal activity. Who would have thought that just after twenty-five years of operation, Crime Stoppers tipsters would have solved 5,500 cases and more than $5 million of stolen property was returned to the rightful owners. And even more impressive is that our tipsters have helped police seize more than $10 million in illegal drugs. I suggest you visit our homepage at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca anytime. There, you will find everything you’ll need to know about our program, unsolved crimes and the many ways you can report criminal acts anonymously. In our efforts to prevent and solve crime, Crime Stoppers plays a critical role assisting police by providing a way for concerned citizens to supply police organizations like the R.C.M.P with information. The volunteers who give thousands of hours to Crime Stoppers ensure a critical link between the public and front-line officers and have a direct impact on our crime reduction efforts. The Crime Stoppers program is an excellent example of how to build positive relationships between several different municipal organizations, government bodies and law enforcement agencies, and then leverage those partnerships for the safety of cities and towns in Nova Scotia. The R.C.M.P. is proud to support the Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers Association. We look forward to many more years of continued partnership and success. Warmest regards, Alphonse MacNeil Assistant Commissioner Commanding Officer of Nova Scotia 14th Annual Awareness Guide 9 www.crimestoppers.ns.ca Jean-Michel (JM) Blais As the new Chief of Halifax Regional Police, I am delighted to remark on the on-going success of the Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers Association. I have been in policing for over 25 years and have seen the success of Crime Stoppers firsthand many times over the course of my career. In fact, I remember one particular case where I was investigating the theft of a fellow commissioned officer’s hat and a Crime Stoppers tip led to its recovery as well as the seizure of illicit drugs. I’ve already heard stories from Halifax Regional Police employees about Crime Stoppers leading to charges in both property and violent crimes in our community. For that, we are indebted to your organization and the people who make it tick. It is evident to me that Crime Stoppers, like any organization, is successful because of its members and volunteers. I want to personally thank everyone involved with the Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers Association for your commitment to an organization that assists police in conducting investigations and ultimately makes our community safer and stronger.
