Rich Hall’s Hoedown autumn tour kicks off with 3 nights at Bristol’s Redgrave Theatre in September and continues until December 2018, including one night at Dublin’s Olympia on 11th November. Hall’s precision dismantling of the tenuous relationship between the two countries is as freewheeling and deadly accurate as ever. This Hoedown tour begins as a withering dissection of Trump’s America and all of its twists and turns, but ends up in a celebration of Americana. After the recent success of BBC comedies such as Outnumbered and My Family, BBC1 Controller Danny Cohen apparently told his team of producers that BBC Comedy was becoming ‘too middle class’, and failing in its responsibility to appeal to working class viewers (Gammell, 2011; Revoir, 2011; Leith, 2011).
