The CSIR's Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI) has claimed to have developed the world's largest 'solar tree' which is installed at its residential complex in Durgapur in West Bengal and created a model which can be customized for use in agricultural activities. “The installed capacity of the Solar Tree is above 11.5 kWp. It has the annual capacity to generate 12,000-14,000 units of Clean and Green Power”.

Ladakh and Lakshadweep have joined the Centre's ration card portability scheme 'One Nation-One Ration Card', taking the total number of states and Union territories linked with the scheme to 26.
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) will be able to avail their entitled foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop (FPS), also called ration shops, in the country using the same ration card. Remaining states are targeted to be integrated in the scheme by March 2021.
Cabinet approves Bill to include Kashmiri, Dogri, Hindi as official languages in J&K
The Union Cabinet on 2nd September approved a bill under which Kashmiri, Dogri and Hindi, apart from the existing Urdu and English, will be the official languages in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. FDI inflow from China declines to USD 163.77 million in FY20
There has been decline in foreign direct inflow from China in the last three years with FDI coming down to USD 163.77 million in 2019-20, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur informed Lok Sabha on 14th September.
Giving details of the total foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow from Chinese companies in India, he said, it was USD 350.22 million in 2017-18, while it declined to USD 229 million in the following year. During 2019-20, FDI further came down to USD 163.77 million, he said in a written reply on the first day of the monsoon session.

Defence Ministry signs Rs 2,580 Cr deal to procure Pinaka rocket launchers
In a big boost to the 'Make in India' initiative, the Defence Ministry has signed contracts worth Rs 2580 crores with Indian companies to supply six Army regiments with Pinaka missiles. The Acquisition Wing, Ministry of Defence signed contracts with Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), Tata Power Company Ltd (TPCL), and Larsen & Toubro (L & T) on August 31.
These will be operationalised along the northern and eastern borders, and their induction is planned to be completed by 2024.
India-Russia sign agreement on manufacturing AK-203 rifles
The Defence Minister is at Russia’s capital Moscow attending SCO meet. He arrived on September 2, 2020 and is on a three-day visit. INDRA 2020: Indian Navy to hold mega exercise with Russia
India and Russia are to hold bilateral naval exercise INDRA 2020 in Andaman Sea, close to strategic Strait of Malacca. The exercise is being conducted while the Indian Navy is on high operational alert due to the standoff with China in Ladakh.
Three Russian Naval ships are to take part in the exercise on September 4 and 5.

Indian Wushu stalwart Poonam Khatri has claimed World Championship status after her silver medal at the Wushu World Championship last year has been upgraded to a Gold medal. Poonam had lost the final to Iranian opponent Mariyam in the Women’s 75 kg category but after Mariyam recently failed the dope test, the gold medal has been awarded to Poonam Khatri.
