Union Cabinet approves Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY)

ABRY will also incentivize the creation of new employment opportunities under Atmanirbhar Bharat Package 3.0.  Atal Tunnel is the world’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet from the Mean Sea Level (MSL).  The tunnel named after former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.  Atal tunnel built by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), under the Rohtang Pass in the eastern Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas on the Leh-Manali Highway in Himachal Pradesh.  The total length of the tunnel is 9.02 km and at an elevation of 3,100 metres (10,171 ft).  The overall cost of completion of the project is around Rs. 3200 crore.

India conducts successful night trial of nuclear- capable Prithvi-2 missile

Prithvi-2 missile from Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Balasore, off Odisha coast. The state-of-the-art missile is India’s first indigenous surface-to-surface strategic missile, developed by DRDO under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme. The 9- metre tall liquid-propelled Prithvi-2 has a range of 350 km and can carry a 1-tonne warhead. It uses Advanced Inertial Guidance System (AIGS) with manoeuvring trajectory to reach the target with a few metre accuracy. It has been designed to deliver advanced warheads deep into enemy territory. The missile dives at the target at an 80-degree angle.

RBI releases revised Priority Sector Lending Guidelines

OECD expects the GDP to rebound to 8% in 2021-22 (FY22) and 5% in 2022- 23 (FY23). 65. The Japanese research and brokerage house Nomura has projected India to be the fastest-growing Asian economy in 2021. Nomura has estimated the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of India for the calendar year 2021 (CY21) at 9.9%. For the calendar year 2020 (CY20), Nomura expects GDP growth at - 7.1 per cent. 66. Fitch Ratings has revised the GDP growth rate for India in its Global Economic Outlook, to contract 9.4 per cent in the current financial year 2020-21. Fitch has also projected the FY22 GDP growth at 11 per cent and 6.3 per cent growth in FY23. 67. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has projected India’s economy to contract 8 per cent in 2020. ADB also expects the GDP of India to bounce back with growth of 8.0 per cent in 2021.

S&P Global Ratings has raised India’s GDP growth projection for the FY21 (2020-21) to – 7.7 per cent from – 9 per cent estimated earlier. The US-based S&P rating agency has projected India’s growth to rebound to 10 per cent in the next fiscal, i.e. 2021-22 (FY22). 70. The State Bank of India, in its research report ‘Ecowrap’ has revised the GDP growth of India at (-) 7.4 percent in FY21. The SBI research report has also forecast India’s GDP growth in FY22 at 11 percent. 71. The National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) has projected the Indian economy to contract 7.3 per cent in FY21. 72. India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) has revised India’s GDP estimate for the current financial year 2020-21 (FY21) to -7.8 per cent from -11.8 per cent estimated earlier. Ind-Ra has also estimated the GDP to grow by 9.6% in 2021-22 (FY22). 73. ICRA Ratings expects the technical recession in the country's economy to end in the fourth quarter of the current fiscal, limiting the contraction in the GDP to 7.8 per cent in the financial year 2021.

Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Ltd. has launched an electronic spot platform, “BSE E- Agricultural Markets Ltd (BEAM)”, for agricultural commodities through its subsidiary BSE Investments Ltd. 79. Digital financial services platform Paytm has launched a 24x7 RTGS facility to support the companies that make high-value transaction. 80. Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company (Kotak Mutual Fund), has launched Kotak International REIT Fund of Funds, India’s first diversified REIT Mutual Fund. REIT stands for Real Estate Investment Trust. 81. ICICI Bank has announced that it is collaborating with Google to issue FASTag. It has become the first bank to join hands with Google Pay for the issuance of FASTag. 82. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalty on DCB Bank and Jio Payments Bank for various rule violations. The central bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 22 lakh on DCB Bank for non- compliance with certain provisions on marketing/distribution of mutual fund/insurance etc.

NPCI has finally allowed Facebook-owned messaging platform "WhatsApp" to roll out its payments service in the country in a “graded” manner. The change puts a limit on single third parties such as WhatsApp or Google Pay and Walmart’s PhonePe where they can only handle 30 per cent of overall UPI transaction volumes. 85. Forecasting firm Oxford Economics predicts that India’s growth equilibrium to worsen substantially over the medium term, with potential growth averaging just 4.5% over 2020-2025, from its pre-pandemic projection of 6.5%. The fiscal deficit is also expected to widen 7% of GDP in 2020-21. 98. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has handed over the Lucknow airport to the Adani group on lease for a period of 50 years. 99. India has been ranked 129 among 158 countries in the 2020 Commitment to Reducing Inequality (CRI) Index. The 2020 CRI index has been topped by Norway. South Sudan is the lowest ranking country in the index at 158th position. 21. India has been ranked at 4th position, with a score of 39.7 out of 100, in the Asia Power Index 2020, released by the Sydney-based Lowy Institute. The United States has retained its position as the most powerful country influencing the Asia- Pacific with a score of 81.6. It is followed by China (76.1) and Japan (41) at second and third spot respectively. 22. India has acquired the second rank in terms of the number of migrants going to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) countries and acquiring the citizenship of those countries.
