Rural Housing Local Letting Policy - A Rural village is a population less than 3,500; few or no facilities; surrounded by open countryside. There are 35 rural villages in Rotherham, some with populations as small as 100. However, not all villages have any council stock. In the villages listed below with Council Stock 50% of new vacancies will be offered to persons on the housing register with a local connection. The applicant will have a Local Connection if: o Their only or principle home is within the boundaries of the locality covered by the rural housing letting policy and has been for the last 12 months. o The applicant (not a member of their household) is in permanent paid work in the locality covered by the rural housing letting policy o They have a son, daughter, brother, sister, mother or father, who is over 18 and lives in the locality covered by the rural housing letting policy and has done so for at least five years before the date of application. ROTHERHAM METROPOLITAN BOROUGH COUNCIL PLANNING REGULATORY BOARD Thursday, 11th October, 2001 VISIT OF INSPECTION Item 3 File No. RB2001/445 Conservation Area Consent for demolition of buildings File No. RB2001/442 Conversion of barns to form two dwellings, erection of ten dwellings and garages and construction of new road at Rectory House Farm, High Street, Laughton-en-le-Morthen for Mrs. Michiko St. Leger Background Members may recall visiting this site in 1998, when an application was under consideration for the conversion of a farm building to a house and the construction of a new house. That application (R97/1400P) was granted in December, 1998. The present development has been the subject of considerable pre-application discussion, originating in 1999 when Mr. Julian St. Leger submitted draft proposals for a mixed housing development of new-build and conversions. In June, 2000 my officers supplied Mr. St. Leger with suggestions as to how the site should be developed. Briefly, these favoured an approach which stressed the village character of the site, converting the best of the existing buildings to houses, garages etc. and using the main open area on the east side of the site to create a group of houses, of different sizes and styles, around a mews court. I suggested that the northern part of the site, also mainly open at present, should be developed as two large plots, the houses being detached with a wide space between them so as to allow views out of the site. Society of Medieval Archaeology AGM and Winter Symposium The 2020 AGM will be held on Monday, December 7th, online at midday rather than at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London. The AGM will be followed by the Winter Symposium, also online, commencing at approximately 12.30pm. There will be three lectures on recent archaeological discoveries: 12:30 Ben Jervis (Cardiff University) and Lizzy Craig-Atkins (University of Sheffield): The dietary impact of the Norman Conquest: a multiproxy archaeological investigation of Oxford This study utilises an integrated multiproxy analytical approach to identify and explain changes and continuities in diet and foodways between the 10th and 13th centuries in the city of Oxford, UK. It has revealed a broad pattern of increasing intensification and marketisation across various areas of economic practice, with a much lesser and more short-term impact of the Conquest on everyday lifestyles than is suggested by documentary sources. Nonetheless, isotope data indicate short-term periods of instability, particularly food insecurity, did impact individuals. Evidence of preferences for certain foodstuffs and cooking techniques documented among the elite classes were also observed among lower-status townspeople, suggesting that Anglo-Norman fashions could be adopted across the social spectrum. 13:00 Duncan Wright (Newcastle University): Laughton-en-le-Morthen, Yorkshire: an archaeology of elite residence At the western edge of the village of Laughton en le Morthen, South Yorkshire, is a well-preserved motte and bailey castle. In territorial terms it was a time of loss. The diocese of Ripon was founded in 1836 taking with it some of the most heavily populated new industrial regions of West Yorkshire, Bradford, Halifax and Leeds. By 1836 the archbishop had also lost his peculiar jurisdiction over Hexhamshire and in 1837 the archdeaconry of Nottingham was transferred to the diocese of Lincoln. Even though a time of territorial loss for the diocese, it was a period of increased church building.
