Many of our parish roads have su!ered severely from frost. Budget for repairs is controlled by RMBC and spending is based on a range of criteria to assess urgency. Volume of reports is one aspect and we would ask Parishioners to report any potholes. It’s easy to think that RMBC already know about them but it's amazing how this and similar issues get discussed on Facebook and other social media, but few people formally report them. The Parish Council has written to RMBC regarding the state of roads, but we need parishioners to hi-light this as well. News from Firbeck, Letwell, Laughton Common and Laughton-en-le-Morthen We are committed to supporting local groups and facilities such as the Victoria Street allotments and Anston and Dinnington litter pickers community groups. These groups meet regularly and have made significant contributions to improving the local environment. We supported the annual ‘Reindeer partnership’ event , held on 3rd December 2018, which was a great success. A wide range of community groups and statutory partners were involved along with ‘Santa in his grotto and live reindeer’ for the children. Throughout this year ward councillors for Dinnington have been able to support a number of community projects by providing funding for their activities. Laughton Junior School will benefit from the installation of new ‘Billy and Belinda’ safety bollards at the side of the road by the school entrance. These remind drivers to take extra care around the school, and help to teach the children about road safety too. Community funding has also helped the Victoria Street allotments group by providing more equipment. This has helped to increase the number of residents involved with the project, growing their own food, taking part in exercise and helping to address issues around loneliness and isolation. Other projects that have been supported by ward councillors include providing sensory equipment for pupils with special educational needs at Dinnington High School, funding activities at Dinnington Children's Centre and the Santa's Grotto event for Laughton Common Community Association. Councillors have also funded public benches at Coronation park, play area improvements at Laughton-en-le-Morthen, improvements at Davies Park and a visitor information panel in Letwell village. The community litter pickers group have benefitted from having new handcarts, new IT equipment has been provided for the High Nook Tenants and Residents Association and security fencing has been installed at the Dinnington Resource Centre. Fighting Grime We frequently hold community skip events so residents can dispose of unwanted rubbish. There were skip events at Howard Street, Leicester Road and High Nook Road. We helped to clear lots of rubbish and fill the skips. The provision of the skips is through partnership activity and funded in a variety of ways including the Rother Valley South Area Housing panel, Community leadership Fund and partnerships funding. We aim to have a range of agencies alongside elected members with the skips for you to raise issues. Follow @RotherhamWards on Twitter for more information and updates. Follow @RotherhamWards on Twitter for more information and updates. What are the issues in your area? Do you need funding? We are keen to hear your suggestions for projects in your community for 2019/20. If you are a community group we may be able to assist by providing funding. Please contact your ward councillors (via the details below) or our neighbourhoods officer, Steve Lavin on 01909 568515 or drop into the Neighbourhoods Office at Dinnington Resource Centre.
