Today, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will crown a team champion in wrestling for the 59th time. The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Wrestling Championships serves as a qualifying tournament for the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships. Thirty-fi ve IIAC wrestlers will qualify for the NCAA Championship fi eld of 170 – the top three in each weight class plus three at-large selections to be tabbed by the coaches once the championship match-ups have been determined. Two additional individuals will be selected by the NCAA Division III Wrestling Committee once this weekend’s qualifying tournaments are completed. The 2011 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships will be hosted by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse at La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wis., March 11-12. National Polls: Four Iowa Conference schools and 19 individuals are ranked in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association/Brute-Adidas poll released February 8. Ranked teams are Wartburg (1st), Coe (5th), Cornell (19th), and Dubuque (26th). At least one Iowa Conference wrestler is ranked in nine of the 10 weight classes. The lone exception is at 174 pounds, while there are fi ve weights with at least two ranked wrestlers. Five wrestlers are ranked at 125 pounds, while three are ranked at both 157 pounds and 165 pounds. Two wrestlers each are ranked at 197 pounds and heavyweight. Wartburg has wrestlers ranked at nine of 10 weights with the lone exception being at 174. Coe has four ranked wrestlers, Dubuque and Buena Vista have two apiece, and Luther and Cornell have one each. 2010 IIAC Championship Recap: Five schools crowned two individual champions at the 2010 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) Wrestling Championships, but No. 2-ranked Wartburg College advanced eight wrestlers to the fi nals and held off No. 3 Coe, 176.5-167, to win its 18th consecutive title Tuesday at Buena Vista University. The Knights collected their 28th title overall. Cornell, with 120 points, edged Luther (115), and Dubuque (113.5) for third place. The 9.5-point margin was the closest since Central edged Buena Vista 138.5-135 for the title in 1989. Coe, which posted the highest point total for a runner-up team in Championship history, kicked off the championship session on a strong note as junior Clayton Rush defended his 2009 title with a 5-1 win over Wartburg’s Mark Kist at 125 pounds. Tyler Burkle captured his second Kohawk title in three years with a 7-5 sudden victory win over Wartburg’s Todd Becker at 184 pounds. Sean White gave the Knights their fi rst individual title of the night with a 3-0 win over Cornell’s Nick Nothern at 133 pounds, Kevin Donahue responded for the Rams at 141 pounds with a 7-5 victory over Coe’s Chris LeClere. A subsequent title from Nicholas Loughlin at 157 marked the fi rst time since joining the Iowa Conference that Cornell has had more than one champion at a single IIAC Wrestling Championships. For Terrell, it was his second consecutive title, while for Brown, it meant an IIAC title to match the NCAA title he earned last season. Wartburg’s Byron Tate captured the 197 title with a 7-3 win over Coe’s Rob Kramer, while Luther’s Allyn Plattner closed out the championship festivities with a thrilling 6-5 win over Wartburg’s John Helgerson in a rematch of the 2009 IIAC heavyweight fi nal won by Helgerson. For his efforts, Terrell was honored as the 2010 recipient of the Dick Walker Outstanding Wrestler Award. Terrell became the fourth Dubuque to win at least two titles and the fi rst to do so since 1968. Seeded third, he posted a 13-2 major decision over sixth-seed Adam Rave of Luther in the quarterfi nals before dispatching of second-seeded Nick LeClere, 6-3, in the semifi nals. With 113.5 points, Dubuque posted the highest point total by a Spartan wrestling squad at the Championships. It was the fi rst Outstanding Wrestler honor captured by a UD wrestler. There are fi ve returning Iowa Conference Champions in the fi eld. Coe’s Clayton Rush (125), Cornell’s Kevin Donahue (141) and Nicholas Loughlin (157), Terrell (165), and Wartburg’s Byron Tate (197) will all attempt to defend their titles from a year ago. Wartburg’s Matt Kelly (141) and John Helgerson (heavyweight) will attempt to recapture past glory. Rush and Terrell are each looking for their third consecutive titles. Kelly is looking to regain the 141-pound title he won in 2008, while Helgerson is seeking his second heavyweight title in three year. Twenty-one of the Conference’s 33 national qualifi ers, and 12 of 19 All-Americans from 2010 – including national champions Rush and Tate – return to their teams’ lineups in 2011. A trio of three-time All-Americans – Rush, Terrell, and Kelly – are after a fourth trip to nationals. Rush placed second in 2008 and fi fth in 2009 before taking the crown last season. Terrell has fi nishes of fourth (2008), sixth (2009), and third (2010) at 165 pounds to his credit. Kelly placed fi fth at 141 in 2008, third at 133 in 2009, and third again in 2010, this time back at 141. Donahue, Helgerson and teammates Mark Kist and Adam Weber, along with Coe’s Seth Rehn and Loras’ Erik Hanson are each looking for their third trip to nationals. Donahue and Helgerson are two-time All-Americans. Wartburg lists eight returning national qualifi ers on its list of probable wrestlers for the 2011 Championships, while Coe has six. Buena Vista, Cornell, and Dubuque have two apiece and Loras and Luther each have one. Weight-by-Weight Preview 125 — The lowest weight class might also be the most competitive at this year’s championships as fi ve of eight probable wrestlers are currently ranked and a sixth was ranked in the middle of the season. Coe’s Clayton Rush, the defending NCAA champion and two-time defending IIAC Champion, is the top-ranked wrestler at 125 pounds. Rush, a three-time All-American has lost only once this season, in November, to defending NCAA Division I champion Matt McDonough of Iowa. Wartburg’s Mark Kist, the IIAC runner-up each of the past two years and a two-time national qualifi er, has been ranked in the top-fi ve all season, as has Buena Vista’s Austin Mogg. Mogg, who fi nished fi fth at last year’s IIAC Championship validated the coaches’ decision to award him an at-large berth by earning All-America honors with a fi fth-place national fi nish. Kist is ranked second, Mogg fi fth. Luther freshman Daniel Mendoza is rated eighth, followed by Dubuque senior Andre Taylor in tenth. Taylor fi nished fourth as a freshman in 2008 before transferring to Oklahoma State.

Lindenwood University • 2006-2007 Undergraduate Catalog Lindenwood’s “Proficient Graduates” Guarantee Success Lindenwood University has an excellent placement rate for its graduates because it educates the whole person. A degree from Lindenwood means that the holder is adept at reading, writing, speaking, and problem-solving – all the traits by which society judges one’s education level and general competence. That is why more than 98 percent of our students enter a professional job or graduate school within six months of completing their univer- sity degrees. We measure our success by the success of our graduates. We help our students acquire these traits through several means: Liberating Arts Education Our standard-setting General Education program assures that every Lindenwood graduate has been steeped in the essential knowledge amassed by humankind across the ages and has acquired the basic thinking and com- munication skills needed for both adapting to and shaping the world. Lindenwood’s broad-based curriculum in the arts and sciences produces free men and women – enlightened, self-determining, productive citizens of a democracy. Preparation for Life We encourage each student to build a Talent Transcript. This distinctive résumé documents not only the student’s academic preparation and career interests but also his or her leadership posts, real-world experience, work experience, and co-curricular achievements. It is through this investment in our students that we encour- age holistic development: growth in the cognitive, spiritual/ethical, physical, and social realms. Essentially this means that our graduates are educated, not just trained. The Guarantee We evaluate each student’s proficiency in written communication not only in the freshman composition courses but also following the completion of the second composition course, when a special writing-proficiency assess- ment is given.
