What is your experience dealing with the political process? My dealings with the political process are at the municipal and provincial levels. Whether I’m trying to get a project some provincial funding for my company, reviewing regulations with government departments or asking MPPs to attend local PEO events. I believe that it takes open dialogue and channels of communication to accomplish anything of value with government. Eastern Region Councillor Randy 2. Why did you get interested in government liaison activities at PEO? Walker, P.Eng. My interest in joining the Government Liaison Program was to expand my Chapter’s (Quinte) and my engagement. This would be done through meeting more MPPs from other areas. The MPPs in my Chapter’s now know me by name. Of course this doesn’t always translate to larger regions. 3. What do you think the biggest challenges are of the GLP? The biggest challenge I have always seen is PEO wielding enough influence to be able to make changes with other groups. The challenge is getting PEO to have a louder voice. 4. What do you think the biggest opportunities are for the GLP? The biggest opportunity I see is using the close relationship PEO has with the Attorney General to expand influence to all MPPs. We need to make use of our existing relationships to spread a message to the rest of the Ontario government that PEO is a professional group that can be trusted. I would also like to see PEO or a subset (e.g. Engineers Canada or OSPE) be asked to attend government committee meetings, so that engineers can be part of the conversation and can influence change from the beginning. This is a huge commitment for the entire engineering community to step up to the plate. PEO regulates engineers and governments make regulations. Engineers need to be involved in every step of the process, so that both groups have the power to accomplish their respective regulatory tasks. With the addition of COVID-19, the normal channels of communication are different. We need to create new methods of having dialogue stay alive and well. I would like to see more licence holders, even those not heavily involved with the GLP, get to know their local MPPs-so that we can all have a voice. 5 | PAGE GLP TRIVIA CONTEST CONGRATULATIONS to Chair of the Willowdale-Thornhill Chapter, Nanda Lwin, P.Eng., for being the first to submit the correct answer to: Which special guest joined the PEO Government Liaison Committee for their monthly meeting on August 19? Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report February 6, 2020 Quotation of the day “As a straight, white man — wait, not white.” Liberal leadership candidate Alvin Tedjo, who is of Asian descent, makes a quip about using fellow contender Steven Del Duca’s speaking notes during the party’s LGBTQ forum. Today at Queen’s Park On the schedule The house will reconvene on Tuesday, February 18, 2020. In the park The Ontario Autism Coalition will stage a “freeze-in” to protest the Ford government’s delay in implementing a needs-based autism program. Families and advocates will march on the legislature’s south lawn and stand still for five minutes at 11:30 a.m. Coronavirus scare shines light on need for public health funding: NDP The Opposition and government traded barbs over concerns about the coronavirus at Queen’s Park on Wednesday. That’s despite the latest update from provincial health officials that there are no new cases beyond the three previously confirmed, and as the number of cases under investigation continued to drop this week. NDP Leader Andrea Horwath held a press conference to call on the PCs to reverse future funding cuts to public health, while Health Minister Christine Elliott’s office fired back that Horwath was trying to “score political points.” “Ontario’s expert public health officials have been unanimously clear: Ontario is prepared to effectively respond to the 2019 novel coronavirus, something Andrea Horwath herself acknowledged,” Elliott’s spokesperson Travis Kann said in an email statement. Kann added that public health officials have briefed the NDP three times on the matter in order to ensure all MPPs are informed and “to demonstrate that the health and safety of Ontarians is and always should be above politics.” Horwath did admit Ontario’s response to the outbreak has been “outstanding” but stressed that “we need to keep it that way.” She urged the PCs to cancel planned funding cuts and asked the government to review public health resources in order to keep Ontarians safe in the future.

Raymond Cho 7 Queen's Park Crescent, 6th Floor, Frost Building South Toronto, Ontario October, 2018 Dear Scarborough MPP’s, As members of the ODSP Action Coalition for Scarborough, we are taking this opportunity to write to each of you about matters concerning the lives of the approximately 20,000 recipients of the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) who live in Scarborough. We realize that, as a group of six, you represent the three largest political parties in Ontario and four of you represent the Progressive Conservative party that currently holds a majority mandate in Ontario. We believe that you are aware that on July 31, 2018, Minister Lisa Macleod deregulated 19 important improvements to the Ontario Works and ODSP programs that would have significantly assisted the lives of ODSP recipients in Scarborough. A list of the 19 improvements is attached. They range from benefit increases to allowing recipients to keep more of the money that they earn from work or receive as help from family. In announcing the deregulation, The Minister said: “They (the previous Liberal government) … rammed through a series of rushed regulatory changes that had more to do with scoring political points than actually helping people.1” We respectfully disagree with the Minister in two respects. First, the deregulated improvements would have provided significant assistance to 20,000 ODSP recipients in your ridings.

Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report September 18, 2019 Quotation of the day “It’s like the shoemaker’s daughter not getting shoes. They have to pull me off the ceiling when I hear the stickers are coming off … They didn’t use Deco Labels, that’s why (laughs). But no, all joking aside, things like that happen … we’ll get it fixed. If I was allowed to donate them, I would, believe me, but I’m not allowed to.” Sticker magnate Doug Ford makes a quip about his family company when acknowledging problems with the rollout of the government’s mandatory anti-carbon tax gas-pump stickers. Today at Queen’s Park On the schedule The House is in extended summer recess until Monday, October 28. Premier watch Premier Doug Ford received both cheers and jeers when he took the stage at the International Plowing Match in Verner on Tuesday. After his speech, he claimed the “absolutely classless” New Democrats were the only ones saying boo. The premier also took a spin on a tractor to plow a furrow, as is tradition among the provincial party leaders. The PC caucus was out in full force, clad in matching straw cowboy hats gifted by Bruce Power. Toby Barrett was serving up a raccoon pelt as a staple of the fur fashion industry, and Michael Parsa helped Will Bouma find a missing shoe. NDP Agriculture critic John Vanthof, who represents the Timiskaming—Cochrane riding where the Plowing Match was held, took the wheel of the orange tractor towing the equally orange hay wagon carrying the New Democrat caucus into the festival.

  • Proclamation/Greeting Letter Request for 29Th Falun Dafa Day Anniversary April 8, 2021
Proclamation/Greeting Letter Request for 29th Falun Dafa Day Anniversary April 8, 2021 Dear Mayor Jim Diodati We hope you and your loved one have been safe and well. We respectfully request a greeting/proclamation letter in recognition of Falun Dafa Day for this year (May 13, 2021). This is our annual celebration of 29 years spreading of Falun Dafa to the public, the contributions of the Falun Dafa community in Canada and to honor the values of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. We truly appreciate for your previous proclamations to us during the past years! Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) is a spiritual practice for mind and body, rooted in the ancient schools of cultivation in China. It consists of meditative exercises, and a moral philosophy aimed at the promotion of virtue. At the core of Falun Dafa’s teachings are the tenets of “Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.” Tens of millions of people from diverse cultural backgrounds in over 100 countries, including Canada, benefit from practicing Falun Gong, where the free teachings help people improve their mental, moral, and physical wellbeing and contribute to a more healthy and harmonious society. Falun Dafa practitioners have also helped Canadians during these difficult times, by offering free meditation exercise instruction in communities and online classes. As traditional Chinese culture believes, and scientific studies, as well as survey results, are now proving, the connection between mind and body is key for a healthy immune system and to combat illness and stress. As you may be aware, for the past 22 years, major human rights organizations have documented the nation-wide campaign of hatred, torture, forced thoughts conversion, mass imprisonment, and killing of people who practice Falun Gong in China, including evidence of practitioners being murdered for their vital organs that are being sold by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Queen’s Park Today – Daily Report July 29, 2020 Quotation of the day “Windsor Hum.” A mysterious low-frequency noise that plagued Windsor for a decade has gone quiet after a steel factory nearby neighbouring Detroit shut down. Today at Queen’s Park Written by Sabrina Nanji On the schedule The house is adjourned until Monday, September 14. The PCs are expected to announce long-awaited details of the independent commission into long-term care and whether Toronto, Peel and Windsor-Essex can move into Stage 3 today. Premier watch Premier Doug Ford's summer tour stopped in Pickering, Ajax, Bowmanville and Oshawa on Tuesday to highlight speedy construction of up to 320 new long-term care beds at the Lakeridge Health site by 2021. It's part of the accelerated construction program announced last Tuesday. Opposition parties say the PCs should be focused on fixing staffing problems in current homes before fast-tracking new ones. Long-Term Care Minister Merrilee Fullerton is expected to release the staffing study from her expert panel by the end of the week. FAO: Spending clocks in at $3.5B less than planned The Ford government spent billions less than was budgeted for the 2019-20 fiscal year. That's the upshot from the Financial Accountability Office's latest quarterly spending report for the year ending March 31 that was released on Tuesday. In it, budget watchdog Peter Weltman noted that despite boosting the 2019 spring budget plan by an extra $2.6 billion last winter, the PCs actually spent $3.5 billion, or 2.2 per cent, less than planned.
