PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

You are expected to arrive on Friday, May 30, 2014. RIT staff members will welcome you at the airport, escort you to the hotel and help you settle down. You will get basic instructions on how to get around the town, a city map and bus schedule.

You will be accommodated in a 3 star hotel (free WiFi in the lobby and laundry service) in the Lapad area in . Lapad is a tourist area with many hotels, restaurants, coffee bars and a well maintained pedestrian mall and walking path around the peninsula. This offers students many attractive locations for eating, relaxing and studying. The proximity of a supermarket and a green market is another convenience of this area.

On Saturday, May 31, 2014 you will have Orientation day at RIT Croatia. During Orientation, you will get more detailed information on living in Dubrovnik and Croatia in general, meet staff members and have a tour of the building. After that, you will have a guided tour of the Old Town (historical part of Dubrovnik which joined UNESCO World Heritage Sites list in 1997).

MGMT – 489 Seminar in Management: Sustainable Small Business Tuition for two 3-credit course $1,890.00 This seminar explores sustainable small business ventures with a focus on ecotourism in Croatia. Concepts of sustainability and its Program Fee* $4,050.00 application in business, the economy, society and the environment will be explored in depth through field research and interviews with Estimated Additional Costs/Out of pocket expenses** $2,650.00 Croatian businesses as well as reading case studies. All businesses explored in this course will be small-scale and may be either for TOTAL PROGRAM COST $8590.00 profit or non-profit enterprises. ENVS – 150 Concepts of Environmental Science **Out of pocket expenses include: This course will introduce students to the important concepts and -flight issues of environmental science and presents the interdisciplinary -books principles of environmental science through the study of the earth's -meals not covered in the program fee ecosystems with particular attention to their expression along -visa fees Croatia’s Dalmatian coast and in protected areas of Croatia’s -health insurance continental parts. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a foundation for their environmental education.

The framework of this interdisciplinary study is to describe natural systems and their functions, identify and discuss problems caused by human interaction with the natural world, and investigate solutions to these problems. Current case studies will be used to illustrate the local, regional, and global dimensions of environmental problems and solutions.

Through assigned readings, classroom discussion and on-location exploration of local environmental issues, students will learn how to critically analyze environmental problems from a multidisciplinary and multicultural sensitive perspective and to propose solutions that work within the constraints of local human and financial resources. DAY 1 – DAY 13 : DUBROVNIK, (June 2 – June 14, 2014) DAY 17 : SPLIT (June 17, 2014) Students will spend 12 days in Dubrovnik and have indoor classes -Departure for Split at RIT Croatia combined with one-day field trips to beautiful local -City tour with a local tour guide islands. -Lunch -Free afternoon DAY 3 : ISLAND OF LOKRUM (June 4, 2014) A short ten minute boat ride from the Old City harbor, the DAY 18 : SPLIT (June 18, 2014) Island of Lokrum is a special forestry reserve under Day off in Split. DAY 21 & 22 : NATIONAL PARK PLITVIČKA JEZERA (June 21 & 22, 2014) -Drive from Starigrad Paklenica to DAY 14-DAY 25 : TRIP ACROSS THE ADRIATIC National Park Plitvička Jezera (June 14 – June 25, 2014) -Lunch -Visit to National Park Plitvička Jezera DAY 14 : – PELJEŠAC VINERIES - – PLOČE (UNESCO World Heritage Site (June, 14 2014) -Overnight in a hotel near the Park -Departure from Dubrovnik by bus to Pelješac peninsula -Ston - city walls and salt panes DAY 23 : FUŽINE (June 23, 2014) -Miloš winery – winery tour and vine tasting -Drive from Plitvička Jezera to Fužine -Bartulović winery – lunch, wine tasting -Lunch at the hotel -Dingač vineyard -Boat ride on the Bajer lake and visit to Vrelo cave -Ferry ride from Trpanj to Ploče -Dinner and overnight in hotel -Drive from Ploče to Metković -Overnight in Metković (river valley) DAY 24 : NATIONAL PARK RISNJAK (June 24, 2014) -Visit to National park Risnjak DAY 15 : METKOVIĆ - (June 15, 2014) -Three hour hike to the top of the mountain -Visit Narona excavations in Vid -Dinner and overnight at a hotel -Short ride to -Neretva river safari – boat ride through Neretva marshes DAY 25 : KAMAČNIK – ZAGREB (June 25, 2014) -Traditional Neretva lunch at rustic streamside restaurant -Visit to Kamačnik canyon -Drive from Opuzen to Makarska -Short stop and sightseeing in Vrbovsko -Overnight in Makarska -Arrival to Zagreb in late afternoon Makarska WiFi hotspots

DAY 16 : THE NATURE PARK (June 16, 2014) DAY 25-DAY 31 : ZAGREB (June 25 – July 1, 2014) - Exploration of the Nature Park Biokovo. Hike from the Classes will resume on June 26, 2014 at RIT Croatia, Zagreb campus, bus drop-off point through diverse mountain ecosystems followed by two study days on June 27 and 28, 2014 and Final culminating with a walk to the mountain top of 1 Mount Presentations on June 29, 2014. St Jure and stunning views of Bosnia to the east and the Adriatic Islands to the west. On June 30, 2014 students will have a ˝Farewell dinner“ at one of the - Lunch on the mountain before returning back to local restaurants. Makarska Airport transfers will be organized according to departure schedule. Next Steps: 1. Register on the Compass

2. Fill out an application for this program on the Compass

* Click the "Search Programs" button and enter 'RIT' as the Program Provider and enter ‘Footsteps’ as the keyword

* Choose the Result titled “Footsteps through the Adriatic” and click the Apply button and choose “Summer 2014”

* Complete all the fields in the application; make sure that you click Save & Continue on each page to earn a green check mark indicating that you have completed that section of the application.

* When you have collected all of your green checkmarks, on the last section called Review and Save, make sure to click SUBMIT
