Scarpulla The Maryland Entomological Society (MES) was founded in November 1971, to promote the science of entomology in all its sub-disciplines; to provide a common meeting venue for professional and amateur entomologists residing in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and nearby areas; to issue a periodical and other publications dealing with entomology; and to facilitate the exchange of ideas and information through its meetings and publications. The MES was incorporated in April 1982 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, scientific organization. The MES logo features an illustration of Euphydryas phaëton (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae), the Baltimore Checkerspot, with its generic name above and its specific epithet below (both in capital letters), all on a pale green field; all these are within a yellow ring double-bordered by red, bearing the message “● Maryland Entomological Society ● 1971 ●”. All of this is positioned above the Shield of the State of Maryland. In 1973, the Baltimore Checkerspot was named the official insect of the State of Maryland through the efforts of many MES members. Membership in the MES is open to all persons interested in the study of entomology. All members receive the annual journal, The Maryland Entomologist, and the monthly e-newsletter, Phaëton. -

These were further authenticated by ZSI, Pune, Maharashtra, India. These documented coleopterans were placed in 14 genera,06 subfamilies and 03 families viz. Scarabaeidae, Geotrupidae and Hybosoridae . Dung beetles were collected using dung baited pitfall traps, light traps and handpicking at five regions belonging to different localities within the study area. Scarabaeinae and Rutelidae were the dominant subfamily belonging to our collection. REVISION OF THE GENUS HYBOSORUS MACLEAY (COLEOPTERA: SCARABAEIDAE, HYBOSORINAE) by P. J. KUIJTEN Division of Systematics and Evolutionary Biology, University of Leiden With 60 text-figures and one plate ABSTRACT A taxonomic revision of the scarabaeoid genus Hybosorus is given, including descriptions, no- menclatorial notes, figures of genital apparatus and other relevant parts, a key, and notes on dis• tribution and bionomics. Lectotypes are designated for Hybosorus carolinus LeConte, H. crassus Klug, H. nitidus Lansberge, H. pinguis Westwood, H. roei Westwood, and Hybosoroides alluaudi Benderitter. Hybosorus arator (Illiger), H. carolinus LeConte, H. nitidus Lansberge (nov. syn.), H. illigeri var. nossibianus Fairmaire, H. pinguis Westwood, H. roei Westwood, H. arator subsp. ara• tor (Illiger) sensu Endrödi, 1957 (nov. syn.) and H. arator subsp. palearcticus Endrödi (nov. syn.) are considered synonyms of H. illigeri Reiche. Problems concerning the type-species and some dubious names are discussed. Arguments are given for Hybosorus oblongus Dahlbom, H. pinguis Westwood, H. roei Westwood and H. carolinus LeConte being nomina oblita. Hybosorus laportei Westwood is considered a valid species and H. thoracicus Westwood a synonym of H. laportei (nov. syn.). Both were currently considered synonyms of H. illigeri Reiche. A new genus, Seleuco- sorus, is erected for Hybosorus punctatissimus Reiche. Hybosoroides alluaudi Benderitter, due to its close similarity to Hybosorus, is included in this revision. Hybosorus laeviceps Fairmaire is con• sidered a synonym of H. baliensis Brancsik. Removed from Hybosorus are H. curtulus Fairmaire, being a Melolonthine, and H incultus Péringuey, being an Orphnine. INTRODUCTION With studies of Phaeochrous (1978) and Phaeochroops (1981) I initiated a revision of the Hybosorinae of South-East Asia. -

A brief overview of the current taxonomic status of the subfamilies Ceratocanthinae and Hybosorinae is presented, along with new Virginia county records and natural history notes for Germarostes aphodioides (Illiger) and G. globosus (Say). Nikolajev Kazakh State National University, Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan Received February 23, 1995 Abstract—Two new species of the Mesozoic genus Proteroscarabaeus, P. magnus and P. nikritini, and three new genera with one new species each, Cretanaides trogopterus (Hybosorinae), Cretobolbus rohdendorfi (Bol- boceratinae), and Hybosorites fissuratus (subfamily incertae sedis), are described from the Lower Cretaceous of Transbaikalia. A new tribe is created within the Geotrupinae for Cretogeotrupes. One new tribe is established within the Hybosorinae, and two more within the extant Bolboceratinae. Cenozoic Bolboceras tertiarium is transferred to Phaeochrous; doubt is expressed regarding the placement of the monobasic Cenozoic genus Coprologus in the Bolboceratinae.
