We would like to work with more. Every time that you make a purchase in one of our shops; provide some items for us to sell or make a financial donation, we are able to positively impact upon the lives of older people living in Bradford District. Looking forward, our strategy commits us to going even further to enable, empower and support people to live well as active, engaged and influential members of their communities. We can offer drop in support or telephone support for simple information requests or signposting. For more complex issues or support with benefits or welfare rights, we would ask you to make an appointment with one of our specialist advisors. How we work: We will not charge you for our service – it’s free We will not tell anyone about your business without your permission You can talk to us in private We will not make judgements about your life and what you want to do The information and advice provision is available across the Bradford district External Referrals Through our partnerships we can connect you to some specialist support if you need it: • Specialised Dementia Support – We can connect you to Dementia Connect service through the Alzheimer’s Society. • Telephone Befriending – We can refer you to Call in Time through Age UK National. 4 Help at Home We understand that for a lot of people staying at home in a safe and secure environment is really important, but as we get older sometimes we need some help with home maintenance and upkeep. Our Help at Home service offers support to help people remain independent, safe and happy at home. We perform regulatory checks on all our registered traders, contractors and companies detailed in our database. We also ask that all companies registered with the scheme sign up to our Trusted Trader Charter: ageuk.org.uk/bradforddistrict Live Well and Safe Our Live Well and Safe service is a collaboration between Age UK Bradford District and Equality Together. Together we will support people to purchase any aids and adaptations that can improve the safety, security and general day to day activities in the home. We offer demonstrations and practice equipment, as well as items to purchase through our retail outlets, the independent living centres in Wrose and Manningham Mills. *Actual and demo equipment available in Age UK outlets in Shipley, Keighley, Bradford Centre, Wrose as well as Manningham Mills. Some of the other support our partner can provide includes: Servicing of equipment (e.g. wheelchair servicing) (Manningham Mills) Hire of equipment (e.g. wheelchairs) (Manningham Mills) Occupational Therapist (Manningham Mills) 5 Wellbeing and Engagement As we get older we can often stop doing the things that matter to us and the activities we enjoy. Our Connections Service is here to support older people, their relatives and carers to access the services and support that is right for the individual, whether it be getting out in the community or support at home. We support people by putting them at the heart of the service to do the things that really matter; whether that’s going for a walk, joining an activity club or learning a new skill. Our Social Connections team facilitates a number of social groups which are friendly, welcoming environments for you to meet new people and make new friends. Our groups are responsive to what you tell us you want, so if there isn’t currently a group that is right for you, let us know.
