  • Photo Cathryn Bell
PhotoPhoto Cathryn Cathryn Bell Bell 2 There is little doubt that this February has been a remarkable month; the weather has been kind and it has ended with a spring like weekend, the like of which I don’t recall so early in the year. Yes, we have had mild winters, many times over the last twenty years, but not a prolonged warm spell more suited to the Canary Islands. The population of Idle and Thackley have taken full advantage filling the shops and sitting in the sun outside the pubs and clubs. One thing I did notice during the last week of the month was my neighbours sitting outside, in the garden, late in the evening, admittedly they had a fire pit going full blast. But February? Thackley’s licensed trade appears to have taken on a new life too over the last month or so with work starting on the refurbishment of the Great Northern, although we do not know yet what the actual plans are. There has also been investment at the Commercial Inn—see this issue—where they have altered the function facility, making it into one room twice as big, with new carpets and decoration. At the junction of Craghill Road and Thackley Road, planning permission has also just been granted for a micro-pub in the old grocers shop on the corner, formerly run by Mr Teddy Eva. Gardeners are getting ready for the new season, although it is still a little early for planting, with the danger of frosts for another couple of months yet, but it does give us a chance to get those building jobs done, which normally get held up by a cold spell.

  • May 2021 FOI 2387-21 Drink Spiking
Our ref: 2387/21 Figures for incidents of drink spiking in your region over the last 5 years (year by year) I would appreciate it if the figures can be broken down to the nearest city/town. Can you also tell me the number of prosecutions there have been for the above offences and how many of those resulted in a conviction? Please see the attached document. West Yorkshire Police receive reports of crimes that have occurred following a victim having their drink spiked, crimes such as rape, sexual assault, violence with or without injury and theft. West Yorkshire Police take all offences seriously and will ensure that all reports are investigated. Specifically for victims of rape and serious sexual offences, depending on when the offence occurred, they would be offered an examination at our Sexual Assault Referral Centre, where forensic samples, including a blood sample for toxicology can be taken, with the victim’s consent, if within the timeframes and guidance from the Faculty for Forensic and Legal Medicine. West Yorkshire Police work with support agencies to ensure that all victims of crime are offered support through the criminal justice process, including specialist support such as from Independent Sexual Violence Advisors. Recorded crime relating to spiked drinks, 01/01/2016 to 31/12/2020 Notes Data represents the number of crimes recorded during the period which: - were not subsequently cancelled - contain the search term %DR_NK%SPIK% or %SPIK%DR_NK% within the crime notes, crime summary and/or MO - specifically related to a drug/poison/other noxious substance having been placed in a drink No restrictions were placed on the type of drink, the type of drug/poison or the motivation behind the act (i.e.

  • Bradford & District Rabbits Golf Association Www
BRADFORD & DISTRICT RABBITS GOLF ASSOCIATION WWW.BDRGA.NET B.D.R.G.A. HANDBOOK 2019 BRADFORD & DISTRICT RABBITS GOLF ASSOCIATION The following is an extract from the MINUTES of the inaugural Meeting of the new ASSOCIATION, which was referred to as THE BRADFORD & DISTRICT RABBITS GOLF ASSOCIATION dated 9th April 1948. “Invitations to attend this Meeting had been sent out by a small Committee of the Bradford Moor Golf Club, and the response was very encouraging. There was an attendance of 28 and eleven Clubs were represented as follows:- South Bradford, Bradford Moor, Otley, Cleckheaton, West Bowling, Woodhall Hills, Queensbury, Thornton, East Bierley, West Bradford and Phoenix Park. The Chair was taken by Sam Chippendale Esq. of Bradford Moor Golf Club and he extended a hearty welcome to all the visitors”. There followed a discussion: “Mr Chippendale was asked whether the Association would have the support of the West Riding Rabbits Golf Association as it was felt that such support and approval would be necessary if both Associations were to prosper. The Chairman said that he had the goodwill of the West Riding Rabbits but assured those present that our Association would be a separate entity from that body and would only be affiliated to it. Thereupon a proposal was made by the Cleckheaton Representative, and seconded by the South Bradford Representative that “The Bradford & District Rabbits Golf Association” be, and is hereby formed, and this was carried without opposition. It was agreed by Members of the Association that an ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the Association would be held at a suitable venue on April 30th 1948.” THE BRADFORD & DISTRICT RABBITS GOLF ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION AND RULES The name of the Association shall be “The Bradford & District Rabbits Golf Association“, affiliated to the Yorkshire Rabbit Golf Association.

  • MAGAZINE March & April
Saltaire Methodist Church www.saltairemethodistchurch.org.uk MAGAZINE March & April Dear Friends, We are back safe and sound, all in one piece, including Brian! While in Zimbabwe the chosen theme of all my talks, all conducted in the local language, was "For such a time as this", all centred on Queen Esther, the Old testament heroine. Surprisingly, the rest of the group adopted the theme, not verbally, but in action. We lived that theme, we prayed the theme, we breathed the theme, yet we never talked about it, not once. God must have spoken to us individually. For those not familiar with the story of Esther, below is the background. Esther, a young Jewish girl (Esther 4) was selected by King Xerxes to be his wife after a nationwide search for a new queen, following the deposing of the previous wife. At the time, the Jews were in captivity. Esther married the king without revealing that she was Jewish, at the advice of her uncle Mordecai. An official in the king's office, a man called Haman, took a dislike to Mordecai because he would not salute him. As a result, Haman plotted to have all the Jews killed. Esther is told of the plot and risks her life to speak with the king, without being summoned, in order to ask that the Jews be spared. Her courage paid off. The Jews were spared. Esther considered the price she would have to pay yet still took it upon herself declaring; "If I perish, I perish" Our situation might not exactly have been like that, but consider the cost of a trip to Zimbabwe, the time, the risks involved, healthwise and otherwise, yet friends took it upon themselves to undertake the journey.
