Chipotle Off the Card, New Moe's Location a Possible Replacement THE VANDERBILT HUSTLER THE VOICE OF VANDERBILT SINCE 1888 LIFE EDITION WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 2011 WWW .INSIDEVANDY.COM 123RD YEAR, NO. 4 Moon Taxi, a Nashville-based indie rock band, discusses inspiration for its unique sound, aspirations for the future and why the lives of struggling musicians are, in actuality, pretty glamorous. KYLE MEACHAM Asst. Life Editor There’s no doubt that local five-piece rock band Moon Taxi is poised for huge success. Whether you’ve met the band personally, have seen a live performance, or read any of their online reviews, you can’t ignore a certain persevering energy that is present in their music. The band’s “Zeppelin-influenced,” “My-Morning-Jacket- esque” performances, coupled with their energy and commitment to technically efficient indie rock, has moon Taxi amongst the most regonizable local bands in the Southeast. The band would be supremely disappointed with such a characterization, however, as Moon Taxi bassist Tommy Putnam made clear when we sat down for an interview in JJ’s Market on Division St. “We sound like we do because we don’t try to sound like anyone else. We don’t say ‘we’re going to be a jam band’ or ‘we’re going to be an indie rock band’ or ‘we’re going to be a rock band.’ We do what we like and this is what you get,” said Putnam, in direct response to my attempt to classify the band’s sound. The musical, based on the Fellini film “8 1/2,” tells the story of an Italian director, Guido Contini, who experiences a midlife crisis and must navigate the throes of romance and writer’s block in 1960s Venice. “The show is going to be fabulous,” said director Molly Landholt. “It really separates itself from other musicals we have done because of its wider emotional spectrum.” According to Landholt, the show’s universal social message should really resonate with the college student experience. “The show is deep and moving, but also funny and entertaining as well,” Landholt said. Freshman Michael Greshko, who plays Contini, said that the show is one of the most challenging he has ever done. “The piece is very moving,” Greshko said. “ We are making art and telling a story, but the best part for me is having a second family here at Vanderbilt.” Junior Bryann DaSilva plays the character of Liliane La Fleur, who is Contini’s producer. The role is interpreted so either a man or a woman can play it. “It just so happens that a man was better suited to play the role,” DaSilva said. “It adds a layer of complexity to a very sexually-charged show.” The show is at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Ingram Center for the Performing Arts. Student admission is free, but non- student admission is five dollars. VOB is a student organization founded in 1996 that performs one full-length musical annually in the spring. MOON TAXI RELEASES NEW SINGLE “RESTLESS” VIA RCA RECORDS LISTEN NOW: https://smarturl.it/mtRestless [New York, NY – June 26, 2019] Nashville’s own alt-rock-five-piece band Moon Taxi today releases their brand new single “Restless” via RCA Records. Listen HERE. “Restless” follows the band’s latest tracks “Now’s the Time” and “This World” released this spring. STREAM/BUY “RESTLESS” https://smarturl.it/mtRestless Spencer Thomson of Moon Taxi explains: “The song ‘Restless’ was inspired by the innovative spirit of trailblazers like Steve Jobs. When we wrote ‘Restless,’ we wanted to create a song that paid homage to that spirit of invention. These pioneers didn’t settle for the status quo and were able to see the world from a different view. So often they started from humble beginnings, starting out in garages or out of someone’s house, not unlike a lot of rock ‘n roll bands and artists. We tried to have the track capture a mix of that punk rock energy mixed with futuristic sounding elements. We’re excited to have ‘Restless’ out in the world.” Known for their critically-acclaimed live shows, the band is currently on the summer festival circuit performing at The Forecastle Festival in Louisville, Voodoo Festival in New Orleans, The Moon River Music Festival in Chattanooga, and more. Check out their upcoming show schedule HERE. Moon Taxi released their 5th studio album and first for RCA entitled Let The Record Play, last year, featuring their breakthrough single “Two High.” “Two High” propelled the band to new heights, with over 121 million streams on Spotify to date, surpassing 3 million video views (lyric + official), enjoying heavy rotation play on multiple SiriusXM stations, topping the AAA radio chart #1 and charting Top 10 at Alternative Radio.

A CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS AUGUST 4TH 5TH 6TH WELCOME TO SWEET PEA FESTIVAL 2017 It started as an idea, a dream. A community event brought together by locals, who volunteered their time and talents to bring together musicians, actors, painters, dancers, and many more, to promote the arts in Bozeman. People from every walk of life in our little community came together with a dream: “Hey, lets do something fun this summer.” It started as a one-time event and now, today, 40 Festivals later, Sweet Pea is the signature Bozeman community event and is back with all the fun and entertainment you’ve come to know and love—arts, crafts, dance, children’s activities, theatre, music, Tater Pigs–and new events such as a literary event on Sunday, and returning for a 2nd year, the adult painting workshops. Remember, when you buy your wristband (online or at select outlets) before August 3rd you save $10–and no matter when you purchase your wristband it is good for the whole weekend of Sweet Pea! Many other Festivals cost hundreds of dollars for three days, yet Sweet Pea continues, with our volunteers’ help, to provide top quality entertainment at a ridiculously low price. If you want to get into the Festival for free, all you have to do is volunteer in advance for a three-hour shift and you get complimentary admission. This may be our 40th Festival, but it isn’t done. If you love Sweet Pea and want to see next year be an even greater success, apply to join our board and take part in planning next year’s Festival (August 3-4-5, 2018).
