Plans for Lake District and Beyond

Potential for new quality homes

The stretch of the (AYE) from Yuan Ching Road to could be realigned to free up land south of for residential development, and to integrate the area with the district to form a larger and more cohesive development area. Environmental improvements can be made to the surrounding parks and waterbodies such as Jurong River, Pandan River, Pandan Reservoir and to create an attractive waterfront residential district amidst lush greenery for Singaporeans to enjoy.

Better accessibility and connectivity

Besides the East-West and North-South MRT lines which are undergoing upgrading, the new Jurong Regional and Cross-Island MRT lines, a new integrated transport hub at , agencies will explore building more dedicated cycling paths and park connectors. These will strengthen connectivity and accessibility between and the surrounding residential and business nodes such as Pandan and Teban gardens estates, Tengah New Town, JTC’s proposed integrated R&D and industrial township centred around Clean Tech Park, NTU, and Bulim and Tengah industrial estates. This will reduce the need to drive in the western region and promote a healthier lifestyle.

Possible location for High-Speed Rail terminus

The Government is currently studying where the future Kuala Lumpur- High-Speed Rail (HSR) terminus could be sited in Singapore. Jurong East is one of the possible locations. If it is eventually sited in Jurong East, Jurong Lake District will become a gateway to Singapore and potentially our second Central Business District.

Jurong Lake Gardens and Science Centre

The National Parks Board (NParks) will be revitalising the existing Jurong Lake Park on the western bank of Jurong Lake by 2017. The revitalised Jurong Lake Park and the Chinese and Japanese Gardens as well as the grounds of the new Science Centre will be integrated to form the Jurong Lake Gardens, a unique space where the spirit of community gardening takes centre stage.

The Jurong Lake Gardens will be conceptualised and developed around the four key design principles of:

• Restoring nature back to the living environment • Co-creating show gardens with the community • Integrating science & technology with horticulture • Activating garden spaces with active programming

Next year, NParks will invite the community and designers to provide ideas that will be incorporated into the brief for a masterplan design competition. The Jurong Lake Gardens will be developed in phases and be completed from 2020 onwards.

In addition, the new Science Centre, which will have even more impressive features and opportunities for enhance learning experiences, will be located at the eastern bank of Jurong Lake. This would provide an opportunity for the new centre to be integrated as part of the Jurong Lake Gardens, offering an excellent environment to showcase ecology and sustainable living, celebrate our scientific ethos and promote innovation. The new Science Centre is scheduled to be completed around 2020.

A smart, sustainable and connected district

As part of Singapore’s journey to become a Smart Nation, Jurong Lake District is being developed as a mixed-used urban area that is sustainable, smart and connected. Currently, agencies are working with more than 20 companies and starts-ups to progressively deploy and trial innovative technology in the district. Viable solutions arising from the trials will be considered for full-scale deployment in other development areas or even overseas.
