I spent this pandemic reading fashion magazines and philosophy, while listening excessively to Lana del Ray, Marilyn Manson and Orville Peck. I overdosed on music, which is not a bad thing to OD on (wink, wink). Perhaps because I was looking for something. But for what? Is an- swering this question even important? No. What is important is that I was looking for something, whatever it was. Something more than flesh, six eggs and a yoga matt to do my crunches. And certainly something more than medical advice and newspapers. Something that is not quantitative, that is not a chart, a table or a dumb ratio. Something which I found in Paolo Sorrentino’s movies, in Alexander McQueen’s collections, in Hunter S. Thompson’s writings and, occasionally, in Nancy A’s porn. The world can be a savage and stupid place, full of hypocrisy and loneliness - a friendless planet where humanity is supressed by humans. What I was seeking therefore wasn’t going to be found outside, in society. Rather, it was to be found inside me: Sorrentino, Manson, McQueen, Thompson, these creators, all tried to do one thing above all: to stay true to their own nature.
