eyyar dam is situated at Panchayath of Taluk, 30km east of , at the foot of . Established in 1958, the dam was built Nfor irrigation purposes.

It is the catchment area for the River, Mullayar and Kallar. One canal of Neyyar flows to western districts of Tamil Nadu. The main river Neyyar flows through Kallikkadu, , Aryancode, Kezaroor, Marayamuttom, Neyyattinkara and and ends at the Arabian Sea.

The 128sqkm Neyyar sanctuary occupies a beautiful wooded and hilly landscape, dominated by the peak of Agasthya malai.Tucked away in the southeast region of the Western Ghats, this wildlife sanctuary has vegetation from tropical wet evergreen forests to grasslands. With a rugged topography of meadows and slopes, altitudes ranging from 90 to 1800 meters above sea level, the sanctuary is contiguous with the Kalakkadu Tiger Reserve and Mundanthurai Wildlife Sanctuary in TamilNadu.
