COMMUNITY CONSULTATI ON Thank you to all villagers who completed the recent community consultation and to the Parish Councillors for collecting them. We received 143 responses. The results are enclosed and make for interesting reading, The Parish Council and the CORE management committee will be hosting an open event in the Spring which will enable villagers to discuss the results. In the meantime, should you wish to make any comments, please contact Lua, Parish Clerk at [email protected].

We would like to encourage villagers to submit items for inclusion in the Wortwell Mardler, which can include news reports from local groups and clubs, recipes, successes and achievements of villagers (young and old), forthcoming village and local events, memories of Wortwell village life, household items for sale etc. Items will be published, subject to space availability, free of charge. Contact Allison on 01986 788116 or [email protected].

LAND IN THE PARISH OF KNOWN AS PICNIC SITE Alburgh Parish Council is pleased to let everyone know that County Council have completed the sale of this land to Alburgh Parish Council. This means that the site will remain open for residents and visitors to have access to the river for fishing, canoeing, walking and enjoying this beautiful location. Alburgh Parish Council’s sole purpose in buying the land is to ensure public access to it. So many people and organisations have contributed to the cost, and we wish to thank you all, especially Council and Dr Murray Gray. Your response was immediate and generous and without you this would not have been possible. It means that this irreplaceable community asset, remains just that – a community asset. The Trust volunteers have maintained the area and continue to do so, we are very appreciative and grateful for all their work at the site. Perhaps it is time rename the site as Alburgh Riverside Picnic Site, you can let Alburgh Parish Council know your views. We hope you all continue to enjoy the area as you always have done. SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM - BEAT MANAGER PC RICHARDS

Since my last update in November, the local issues remain the same. These are still ASB driving, Speeding and Drug Supply.

Calls to police about ASB driving are almost non-existent now. I have spoken to seven young drivers who are all known locally to cause issues from time to time. Advice has been passed to them and this seems to have worked. The issue of speeding has also dramatically reduced and again I believe that the proactive enforcement by the Special Constabulary has really helped.

I have been working hard to continue building on the current intelligence around drug supply in Harleston and surrounding areas. I have made specific visits to people known to be linked to drugs in the area and this has clearly had an impact. A marked improvement has been shown, by the fact that local residents have personally told me that there is almost no drug activity in those areas as previously reported. I will continue to keep the pressure on.

I am also currently investigating a series of recent thefts from motor vehicles. So far, one person has been arrested and interviewed. He remains under investigation as enquiries are ongoing. Two historic thefts from a local shop in Harleston have been detected by myself and the offender has paid compensation to those victims. THE WORTWELL CORE PROGRAMME OF CLASSES

HELP US HELP YOU

Just a reminder from the NHS in Norfolk and Waveney about how to help us help you this winter.

All of us should be making sure our medicine cabinets are stocked. It’s also sensible to order any regular medicines you need in good time so you don’t run out, taking care to only order what you need. But if you do feel poorly, seek advice from your local pharmacist before it gets worse. If it’s urgent, then a call to your GP or NHS111 is the next step, and they’ll advise you what to do.

Common sickness bugs Suffering from norovirus or other common sickness bugs? Don’t spread it around by visiting your GP or other public places. Stay at home and rest.

HomeFirst – your bed is the best bed! None of us want to go into hospital or a care bed, but if we do it’s good to get home if we can. The NHS and social care across all of Norfolk and Waveney are stressing that if someone needs a hospital or temporary care bed they will get one, but our aim is always to help people get back home as soon as possible. This is because older people in particular can lose independence rapidly. Being back home can also help a speedier recovery. So if you know a friend or relative, particularly if they are older, who has to go into hospital it would be kind to make sure they have all they need to get back home, including checking the heating works and they will have food in the house, the washing is done and they feel OK.

New Year, New You With the start of a New Year people’s thoughts turn to getting fit and improving their health. To stay healthy or improve health, adults need to do two types of physical activity each week: aerobic and strength exercises.

How much physical activity you need to do each week depends on your age. Adults aged 65 or older who are generally fit and have no health conditions that limit their mobility should try to be active daily by doing at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity such as cycling or walking, and strength exercises on two or more days a week. Why not join a local walking group, go for a swim or join a local class, your library should have information about groups near you.

There are many local services that can enable older people to be more active. A wealth of information can be found through the Norfolk Community Directory at https://communitydirectory.norfolk.gov.uk/. ALBURGH VILLAGE CINEMA PRESENTS

WORTWELL CARPET BOWLS CLUB

Success for Wortwell Carpet Bowls Club pair, Steven Wells (County player) and Pam Howard (non-County player). They played in the Norfolk Squad Pairs (one County and one non-County player per pair), where forty pairs from clubs over Norfolk took part. Steve and Pam won all seven qualifying games getting them through to the final. The other finalists also play for Wortwell; Mick Fisher and Janet Vincent. The final was a close game; level on shots on the last and meaning an extra end had to be played. Once again, Steve and Pam won through, taking the trophy and a hamper of groceries each. Well done to both of you.

Wortwell also won the Norfolk County Fours Championship with the team of Mick Fisher, Steven Wells, Val and Mike Bond. Mick also got to the final of the Norfolk County Singles Championship where he lost by a single shot.
